#1 New Weather Report For Port Loring

Good morning. Well, we had quite a night. Heavy rain with even a bit of thunder. Waking up temperatures were sitting at 2.8 C | 37.04 F Today it will be a mixed bag. A little of everything. It will warm up a bit more, then tonight temperatures will cool down. We will see two days of cool weather then warming up. Highway 522 is bare but wet. That could change later on once temperatures start to drop. On another note I didn’t get to do the Blog yesterday, as our internet was down again for most the day. It came back on line around 4:00 PM yesterday. I was hoping Bell would fix the speed and give us what we are paying for, but so far it’s about the same as it has been for the past ten years or so. SLOW!. Joys of living in the North. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea then some breakfast. Great day to stay inside and put your feet up. GW

Enjoy!

Port Loring Ontario Canada, Good Morning

Kind of cloudy day waking up. Temperatures this morning are -1.6 C | 29.12 F It will warm up even more as the day progresses. Highway 522 is snow covered this morning as we did have an inch of snow through the night. But not enough to warrant me cleaning the driveway again today. Traveling will be good once things warm up a touch. On another note the power was out most of the day yesterday coming back on around 4:00 PM. On the downside of things with all the flickering with the power going off and on it burned out my control panel on my stove, I think. So now we have to get that repaired. The next time I will flip the circuit breaker off for the stove as soon as the power goes out, just in case. Live and learn. So with that I am off for my breakfast and a cup of coffee. They say every morning starts a new page in a persons’ life. Which is true, so knowing that, we will see what the day has planned. Have a great day. GW

Good Morning Port Loring Ontario Canada

So finally we have a sunny morning. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -7.4 C | 18.68 F If things work out we should see temperatures rising above freezing. Temperatures will continue to rise for the next two days and could reach the 47 °F (ca. 8 °C). The long range looks good with temperatures warm enough to melt snow. That makes me smile. Highway 522 is partially bare and should improve as the day progresses with this sunshine. On another note our Internet is up and running this morning. We here in East Mills have been without it for two days. I am hoping that they fixed it once and for all. The problem is that it gets to congested and speeds slow down when everyone goes on line. I don’t know their reasoning by not fixing it, as all it does is give them bad reviews. But then again it is Bell. With that I am off for my breakfast and then I suppose I will clean my driveway one last time. Have a great day. GW

We can only hope.

Latest Weather For Port Loring Ontario

Well as everyone knows that lives here in Port Loring, we have been having some terrible weather. Wind, rain, freezing rain and then snow. It looks like it has cleared up somewhat this morning. Highway 522 is snow covered with ice underneath, so traveling won’t be good. Might be a good day to stay inside. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -2 C | 28.4 F Today we could see another 2 inches (5.08 cm) of snow. On another note some of us here in Port Loring have been without Internet since yesterday. It is back on this morning but so slow you can hardly use it. They say we have high speed, but for the past fifteen years it has been no better than dial up. They say there is nothing wrong but that is just an excuse. The problem is we have too many people for their service which slows things down. If you go on line around 2 AM it is high speed but when everyone comes on line in the morning it is back to nothing almost. I can see why folks are switching from Bell to other sources. With that I am heading off for my breakfast and then get back to working on my next book. Have a great day. GW

Waking up this morning things are a bit icy. Snow mixed with freezing rain seems to be the trend and will continue throughout the day an into tonight. We could see around 3 inches (7.62 cm) or so. Temperatures are above freezing for a change 0.7 C | 33.26 F It will warm up a few more degrees later on. Highway 522 is icy and quite slippery. I recommend staying home unless you have to go out. On another note I did manage to wash the car yesterday which makes me feel better knowing it isn’t rusting away before my eyes. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace and have my breakfast along with a hot cup of perked coffee. I have cut back on my coffee a lot these days seems it bothers me some. Joys of getting old I suppose. But remembering back my old Dad used to say. Don’t feel bad about growing older. It is a privilege denied to many. Have a great day. GW

The Wizard of Oz

Awhile back my wife took an order for an Early American Style Deacon’s Bench. I have made hundreds of these in the old woodworking shop over the years. It was made from white pine. It has a storage spot under the seat which is a lid. Sometimes I put the lid on the top of the seat, sometimes I put it in the front. Either way works just fine. Then to make it even nicer my lovely wife painted the characters from the Wizard of Oz on the top Rail. The customer was thrilled. GW

For a change it isn’t that cold waking up. Temperatures were sitting at -10.8 C | 12.56 F They will rise above freezing as the day progresses, which should melt a bit of this snow. Highway 522 is bare and dry at this time so traveling for most of the day should be okay. They are calling for some rain mixed with ice and snow later on today and into tonight. It will depend on which way the storm tracks on how much we get. But it is that time of year when anything is possible weather wise. Today I think I might wash the car as it is a mess from going to North Bay. I hate looking out at it all covered with salt and calcium. The effects of these liquid materials on vehicles isn’t good these days. So with that I am off to have my breakfast and chat to my lovely wife. I will leave you with this. Why did the Canadian Geese stop flying to the north for the summer? You ready for this? It wasn’t worth their while for just one month. But hey! What do geese know anyways?

You want Quality Buy a Ford

Here is a picture of a Ford I used to own. This isn’t my car but one similar. I paid $500.00 for it back when. Lasted a good number of years and made over five trips from Beamsville Ontario to Sarasota Florida. I had it painted down there in a Metallic Green. She was a beauty. GW

Potato & Onions

Here is a potato and onion bin I made for another customer. I have made hundreds over the years. Most are made from white knotty pine with keeping the lid clear so paintings can be done. Of course my lovely wife does all the painting. GW

Lamps

Here is another project I did awhile back. I made 4 of these and all sold within a week. I have to admit they turned out nice. They are made out of White Birch from a tree that came down in my yard after a storm. GW

Morning In Port Loring

Brrrrr! Another cold morning here. Getting out of bed the weather station was saying -18.8 C | -1.84 F But not as cold as yesterday, so things are moving in the right direction. The long range forecast is looking good at the moment, with temperatures all next week hovering around the melting point. So I would think we will be getting rid of some of this snow. Traveling should be pretty good today as Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout. I know this for a fact as my lovely wife and I took a trip to North Bay yesterday to pick up supplies. Actually we had a great day with the sunshine staying with us for most the day. We also went for lunch with our son Karl and had a nice meal at Casey’s. It’s always nice to see our son. What was on the menu? Club Trio, which is. “Half a classic club sandwich paired with roasted red pepper soup and side Caesar salad.” All for the price of $14.00 which I figure is a fair price. Especially since our son paid for ours. The sandwich was delicious as was the salad, and the red pepper soup was a real treat. I would highly recommend it, It makes a great lunch. So with that I am off to have my breakfast. A half a Florida Grapefruit to start things off, then bacon, and eggs easy over with a piece of toast. And while we eat, a game of crib, as my wife skunked me two games in a row the last time we played, so I need to get even. Have a great day!

Hmm, Good!!! Makes me want to go for another trip to North Bay.

Good Morning Port Loring

Well, another very cold morning here waking up. Temperatures were sitting at -25.5 C | -13.9 F Today we should see sunshine in the morning then turning cloudy. It will remain cold all day and into tonight. Highway 522 is bare and dry so traveling will be good. No snow overnight which is okay by me. I have had enough. By the looks of things we will start loosing some of it on the weekend and all next week. With that I am heading off to stoke the wood furnace and enjoy a cup of tea. Have a great day. GW

Good Morning Port LOring

Cloudy snowy morning waking up. Cold too with temperatures sitting at -15.9 C | 3.38 F Not as cold as it was yesterday though. But still cold enough for me to want to stay in where it is warm. I might see about cleaning the driveway later on once these flurries subside. Highway 522 is snow covered for most parts so traveling might not be so good this morning. It should start warming up by Thursday. With that I am once again heading off for my breakfast and cup of tea with my lovely wife. Be good and don’t get caught. GW

Good Morning Port Loring

I have to admit I didn’t want to get from under the covers this morning to put some wood in the furnace. So actually I didn’t. I let the oil furnace warm things up beforehand. Why is that? Just because I can. That’s why. LOL At any rate temperatures were and still are quite cold outside. -22.1 C | -7.78 F We should have some sunshine this morning but turning cloudy and very cold temperatures will stay with us. We could see another inch or so of snow later on tonight. But I predict the cold weather will leave us at the end of the week with things warming up to the melting point. And then it should get even better. I installed another humidifier pad on the wood furnace yesterday and the windows now have moisture on the bottoms, so that tells me it is doing its job. No moisture on the windows no moisture in the house. Also, with the moisture, it makes things much more comfortable. Highway 522 is pretty well bare and dry throughout this morning. Traveling in and out of town should be good. Have a great day. You’re still here? It’s over. Go to work. Enjoy your day. Go!

Lunch

Just working away on my new book and stopping for lunch. The wife prepared a lovely meal which looks mighty tasty. GW

Buffet and Hutch

Here is another project I made for a lady which she loved. The only issue was, that after I made it, my lovely wife wanted one for her kitchen. So … I made her one. It has floating panel doors and is made out of white and red pine, with a sold back. My lovely wife painted then distressed it. Turned out quite nice. GW

Small Cabinet

Here is a smaller Early American Cabinet I made awhile ago for a customer. It consists of a floating raised panel door, a drawer and two shelves along with a solid back. Made out of white pine, stained in an Early American. Nice piece, the customer liked it a lot. That’s all that matters. I enjoyed making it too which is a plus. GW

Good Morning Port Loring

Well not too cold this morning. Temperatures were sitting at -10.4 C | 13.28 F Overnight we had about 1 inch (2.54 cm) of snow. The good side of things is that I don’t have to clean the driveway today. At the moment we have some light flurries occurring, but they should ease off as the day moves forward. We won’t see too much sun today. Tonight though we will need an extra blanket as it is going to get quite cold, but things will be changing for the better near the end of the week. Highway 522 is snow covered once again, so care should be taken if heading out. Myself I am going to put a new filter in the furnace which needs doing. I like to change mine every month as i found it keeps the air nice and fresh. You can always tell it needs changing when your eyes start to get itchy and you start to sneeze more than normal. I try to not let mine get to that point. So with that I am off to have my breakfast with my lovely wife and while we eat have a game of crib. The one thing my wife and I like a lot and that is playing crib. We usually have an ongoing game. It is one thing that was passed on from my old Dad to me. He loved Crib. Actually if he were here today it would be his birthday. March 3. So If I might, Happy Birthday Dad. GW
