Morning Post Nov 14/19

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. We did have around 3 inches (7.62 cm) of snow through the night. At the moment we are having a few flurries and it will continue throughout the day and into tonight. Tomorrow we should see some sunshine, which would be nice. On the good side of the coin it isn’t as cold this morning with temperatures sitting at -3.5 C | 25.7 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout, so care should be taken if out and about. Yesterday my wife and I went to North Bay for provisions which one has to do now and then. The stores were quite busy which tells me folks are spending money. The price of things nowadays have sure risen and I also found the quality of the vegetables aren’t that great. In some stores the fruits and things were laying there rotten. A person has to take care in what they are buying these days. But there are bargains to be found if you look hard enough. Also, while there we had lunch with our son Karl and caught up on a few things. Always nice to see him. Our other son Craig is so far away it is hard to visit him, but we do chat on line now and then. There is something to say for modern technology. With that I am off to put some more wood in my wood furnace and then will see what the day has in store. Have a great day.

Morning Report Nov 13/19

It’s not a bad looking day here for us in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We do have a wee bit of sunshine sneaking through the clouds. It is cold though with temperatures sitting at -13.6 C | 7.52 F. Today we shouldn’t see too much snow but later on in the afternoon and into tonight there are warnings up for more snow. So just when you think we are going to have a few days of sunshine Mother Natures does what she wants. Things will remain this way for most the winter now with not really knowing what is going to happen. Joys of living in the north. Highway 522 in Port Loring is bare and dry this morning so travelling will be good until later on in the day. Today I will finish up some work around the house here. Have a great day!

Morning Post Nov 12/19

We are having a wee bit of sunshine this morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. For how long its anyone’s guess. Temperatures are cold sitting at -14.1 C | 6.62 F. The coldest morning so far. Highway 522 is partially covered with light snow … and some ice. If this sun stays with us it should melt for better driving as the day moves forward. We didn’t have any snow overnight and as of now we have around 4 inches (10.16 cm) on the ground. We could see a few flurries throughout the day. With temperatures being so cold my old wood furnace is feeling good these days. Heat from wood seems to warm every part of the body. Especially when you come in from the outside. Today I will take it a bit easy. Maybe write up a story or two if I think of one. Over the years I have written so many it’s hard coming up with one that gets me going these days. With that bit of information under your hat, I am heading off to put some feed in my bird feeder and then into me. Maybe a cup of fresh perked coffee after that. Have a great day.

Visitors at our Bird feeder

My wife and I enjoy watching the birds as I have mentioned in my posts, but this morning we had two visitors that took our interest. 2 Pileated Woodpeckers. The picture is a bit blurry as I had to take it looking out my screen window, as I didn’t want to scare them. We have them occasionally but usually just one. Thought I would share

Morning Report Nov 11/19

Cloudy cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at -9.9 C | 14.18 F. We could see a wee bit of sunshine off and on throughout the day if we are lucky. But for most parts it will be cloudy and remain cold. Tomorrow will be much like today with a few flurries entering into the picture late in the day. Today I will be working away in the house, I have a few things that need attending. Other than that not too much happening. Highway 522 is bare with a few icy sections throughout, so care should be taken if out and about. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day.

Morning Report Nov 10/19

Not a bad morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada, other than being cloudy along with a few light flurries. On the good side of the coin the warmer weather through the night has melted over half of what we did have. So that will make things just that much easier for cleaning the driveway. I like the idea of … Mother Natures put the snow here …. let Mother Nature take it away. Like today once in a while she cooperates. LOL Temperatures waking up were sitting at 0.3 C | 32.54 F. Temperatures won’t rise much above what it is now. Highway 522 is pretty well bare throughout at this time, which will make travelling not so bad. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will see what the day has in store for us.

Morning Report Nov 9/19

Cloudy, Cold, Snowy morning waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures getting out of bed were sitting at -1.1 C | 30.02 F. Through the night we had around 4 inches (10.16 cm) of the white stuff and I don’t mean sand. Today we will see more until it tapers off to flurries. Tonight should be clear, but you never know in this country. Highway 522 is a mess at the moment, as the Snow-Plows haven’t passed our house as yet. So care should be taken if out and about. It is snowing pretty good at the moment. Kind of day that makes a feller want to stay in and look out. Yesterday I did a bit of work in the basement cleaning up things and today I will finish it, then get on to writing stories for my columns. I start off with that in mind but seems something always heads me into another direction. I suppose we will have to clean the driveway too in the near future. Joys of owning a home. With that I am off to put some more wood in the wood furnace and feed my birds. LOL Kind of nice looking out and watching them while we eat our meals. Have a great day and stay safe.

It’s a cloudy cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the time of this post were sitting at -7.4 C | 18.68 F. It won’t get much warmer today and tonight will be even colder. Tomorrow we could see some more snow and into Sunday. Just what we need. But it is that time of year, and we do live in the north. We made the decision to live here. LOL Highway 522 is bare with a few icy sections throughout. Yesterday I got a few things done up in the basement and today I will write up a story or two for my columns and magazines. It’s the kind of day that I don’t mind staying in where it is warm. With that I am off to put some more wood in the furnace. The nice thing is my wood is in the basement nice and dry, along with my furnace, so no going out in the cold to stoke it. Then I will enjoy a coffee with my lovely wife. Have a good day.

Morning Post Nov 7/19

This morning Port Loring, Ontario, Canada was greeted with sunshine for a change. Laying in bed looking out at the sun rising in the East, kind of gives a feller the incentive to get out of bed. It is cold out this morning, with temperatures sitting at -6.9 C | 19.58 F. The good news is we didn’t receive the snow they said we would be getting yesterday. I would say we have around 2 inches (ca. 5 cm) But in saying that we could see some more snow on the weekend along with colder temperatures. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, so for those wanting supplies in North Bay or ? This would be the day to go. My wife and I are stocked up for a while. It pays to have extra food on hand in this neck of the woods, as you never know what the weather will be from one day to the next. As the say goes … if it is going to snow it will snow in Port Loring. I found that to be true. With that I am off to split a wee bit of wood for my wood furnace which will keep us warm for the day. I found with this new wood furnace we had installed a couple years ago it doesn’t take a bunch of wood to heat the house. No use burning more than you need. Then I will see about pestering my wife a bit. Isn’t that what husbands are supposed to do? LOL have a great day. GW

We did see a wee bit of sunshine early this morning. Clouds have now entered into the picture with snow in the forecast for later on this afternoon. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -3.4 C | 25.88 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry at the time of post. Today I have some work to do in the basement and then will see what else develops as the day goes by. Cold morning and yesterday for the first time I started up the wood furnace. I have to admit it sure felt good. Something about wood heat takes the cold right out of a person. Oil and gas to me always seem to have a cold feeling. At any rate my lovely wife and I are warm. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. Have a great day!

Morning Report Nov 5/19

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But we could see some sunshine off and on. Showers are in the forecast for today and tomorrow we will see some more snow. We could see 3 inches (7.62 centimetres) or more. It depends on which way the snow tracks. But for us 3 inches (7.62 centimetres) is really nothing. Temperatures today were sitting at 2 C | 35.6 F. It won’t warm up much more today and will start dropping as the day progresses. On another note looking out Highway 522 is busy so that tells me there is an accident on Highway 69. Lots of trucks and cars heading East isn’t normal for our area. So taking a look at things, I was right. Here is the notice:

Published Tuesday, November 5, 2019 8:53AM EST
Last Updated Tuesday, November 5, 2019 8:58AM EST
SUDBURY — Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a crash on Highway 69, south of Sudbury, Tuesday morning has caused the road to close in both directions. Police say it happened in the northbound lane of Highway 69 approaching the turnoff for Highway 529 near Pointe au Baril. As a result of the collision, the highway is closed in both directions between Key River and Parry Sound, due to two vehicles blocking the road around 8 a.m. Reopening time is unknown at this time.

Morning Report Nov 4/19

A rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Rained off and on through the night and will continue to do so for most of the day. There is some ice mixed with it and a flurry or two now and then. It’s kind of mixed bag of weather this morning. But that is the way things go at this time of year. Temperatures are trying to find a norm and until that happens we here in the north can expect anything. I don’t think we will see the sun much until Thursday, but with the sun also comes colder weather. Temperatures at the time of this post is saying 1.2 C | 34.16 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is bare and wet with the odd icy section, so care should be taken. You never know when you might have to stop quick, especially in this neck of the woods. Today I will stay inside where it is warm and see about writing up a story or two. Great weather to be doing that. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will see what develops. Have a great day!

Morning Report Nov 3/19

It’s kind of cool here this morning in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is trying to show itself and if we are lucky we might just have some clear skies for a change. But looking at the long range tomorrow is rain once again, then colder weather, following that with more snow. Hmm, just what we need. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -0.5 C | 31.1 F. I have to admit I miss sitting on my front porch with my morning cup of coffee, and winter is just starting. Those snowbirds might be on the right track heading off to warmer areas. Highway 522 is pretty well bare but there are some icy sections here and there. But for most parts travelling should be pretty good today. For us we will be staying home enjoying the warmth of our home. As I type the sun shinning through our pines is looking good. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. Have a great day.

Morning Report Nov 2/19

Not the nicest morning weather wise here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Waking up we are in the midst of clouds, light freezing rain, and now it is changing to flurries. Kind of makes a fellow feel like going back to bed. I have to admit with these new curtains my wife bought for the bedrooms you would think it was midnight in there all the time. Great for sleeping though. Temperatures weren’t all that bad sitting at 0.9 C | 33.62 F. It will warm up a bit as the day progresses. Highway 522 is bare but wet and there are some icy sections here and there. So knowing that my wife and I will stay inside. I haven’t started the wood furnace yet as with the outside temperatures not being to cold, the wood furnace is a bit much. So for now I am using the oil furnace. Just the oil isn’t cheap. But it does a good job, so no complaints. Today I will work again on scanning pictures we have of years past. It is amazing how many we have, and back then there were no cameras like today. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will let the day do as it wants. I always say. You can plan your day just don’t plan the results. LOL Have a great day.

One of Many

I was browsing through some old things and came across some business cards when Ruth and I owned the Tire Service Business many years ago. I built that business up and then sold it. Was a great time in my life but a lot of work in all kinds of weather. We had two service trucks on the road with power tailgates and air jacks which made things nice. Dangerous job though.

Morning Post Nov 1/2019

Winter has arrived for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Snow started late in the day yesterday and continued off an on through the night. I would say we have around 4 inches (10.16 cm). It is also wet snow so the trees are covered. Temperatures are sitting at -3.5 C | 25.7 F. The coldest day so far this fall. My furnace is running all day now. Won’t be long and I will start the wood furnace. Nothing like wood heat in this country. The snow will be with us this morning then tomorrow just some flurries. There is a warning for our area still in effect. The wind will pick up too. Highway 522 has been plowed as the end of my driveway needs cleaning. That part I am not looking forward too, LOL but not much you can do. Things do look a bit slippery so care should be taken if out and about. Today with the weather being such as it is I will stay in where it is warm and work away on some computer work that needs to be done. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. Enjoy your day.
