Morning Report July 31/2020

Good Morning! Looking out, things seem to be shaping up for another nice day for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning and temperatures aren’t to warm, sitting at 14.6 C | 58.28 F. It will warm up though as the day moves forward. The long range forecast is looking good too for the remainder of the summer. Highway 522 is busy as usual with a lot of trucks moving both ways. Lots of construction going on all over. But this is the time of year to get these things done and out of the way as it is a long winter. Man it’s hard to even think about winter. It’s even harder to think that this is the last day of July. On another note my wife and I did manage to get the ceiling put up yesterday in our Cottage to be. Took us two days but it’s done. Happy about that. Now it is just trim work, painting and then designing it up for the bedroom, kitchen and living room. Lots to do but we are enjoying doing it. The good thing is there is no rush. Today we will be doing our mowing as the grass is growing fast these days. That rain we had yesterday sure got it going. It is quite wet though, so it would be nice if it dries out beforehand. Not likely LOL. With that I am off to the front porch with my lovely wife for our morning cup of coffee, and take in some of this fresh northern air. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right. GW

Morning Report July 30/2020

Good Morning! We do have a few clouds blocking our sun this morning. But we will have some sunshine as the day moves forward. We could also see a shower or two. But I don’t suspect it will amount to anything. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 15.4 C | 59.72 F. It will warm up a lot a bit later on. Highway 522 is busy these days with folks coming into our area. Not sure where they are all going being that we only have two Hardware Stores. Oh, I forgot we also have a LCBO, I suspect that is where most are going too. Can’t say I blame them. On another note my wife and I put in a full day installing the ceiling in the cottage to be yesterday. We got it half done. So hoping today we will put that behind us. Not an easy job, for two old timers holding 4×8 sheets of plywood over our head. But things worked out. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee on the front porch with my lovely wife, and then will see what mischief I can get myself into. Take care and stay safe!

Morning Report July 29/2020

Good Morning! So how you all doing this morning? Good I hope. Ruth and I are good here so far. Taking precautions when necessary and staying home. Actually not much has changed in the way of doing things. Other than wearing a mask when out, washing things down after buying something and distancing from folks, which is hard when some don’t give a dam. Temperatures have cooled down some which is nice. Makes things better for working outside. A little cooler would be nice as then we could open all our windows in the house. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 19.4 C | 66.92 F. It will warm up later on in the day with a slight chance of a shower a bit later this morning. On another note I did put in a full day yesterday working in our new to be cottage. Sometimes you get into one thing, and others start to pop up and you figure well might as well do that too. LOL But we are in no hurry. Got all summer and winter if necessary to make things nice. The grass now is growing once again, so more mowing will be needed in the coming days. Veggie gardens are producing well, and we now are eating some really nice Red Potatoes and lots of cucumbers, lettuce and onions. Won’t be long, and we will be having Tomato sandwiches. I’d say about two weeks for them to get to where they are sweet and tasty. With that I am off to the front porch for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right. I know … I keep on saying that, but truth be told there are a lot out there that don’t seem to give a dam … for themselves or others. LOL Have a great day….

Morning Report July 28/2020

Good Morning! Things are looking pretty darn nice here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada weather wise this morning. The sun is upon us without a cloud in the sky. I can’t rightly say that I have seen it so clear as it is this morning. The other good news is that the humidity has left us and temperatures have cooled down. Waking up they were sitting at 19.1 C | 66.38 F. Pretty hard to beat that. Highway 522 is very busy these days which is a norm for this time of year. Yesterday we worked in our cottage most of the day, but then it got so hot in the afternoon I decided to call it a day. Can’t seem to do the work I used to when I was twenty or so. I guess I am getting a wee bit old. My mind says go but my body says no, Whole up there a minute> LOL. Today I will be a bit of a challenge as we have to put the ceiling in, so lifting them 4×8 sheets of plywood up over our heads won’t be the nicest. But I have a plan LOL. So with that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Since it is such a beautiful day we will head on out to the front porch. Seems like the thing to do. Take care and stay safe! Morning Report July 27/2020

Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy morning for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We are also having some light showers. Yesterday was sure a hot one, more so with the Humidity. Which will be with us for most of today. Temperatures waking up were quite warm sitting at 22.3 C | 72.14 F. Tomorrow things should cool down somewhat with a wee bit of sunshine. Highway 522 was quite busy yesterday and I suspect it will be even busier nearing the end of this week. Knowing that, more care should be taken if out and about. Yesterday my wife and I did get a lot of work done inside our store that we are converting into a cottage. Today we will continue on. I have to say though yesterday being so hot wasn’t the nicest for working. Hoping today will be a bit better. On another note our vegetable gardens are growing really good. I might have to remove some Foliage on our Tomatoes, as things are getting a bit crowded. If that continues all we will have is leaves LOL Always something. But I do enjoy working in the gardens. So with that I am off for my morning cup of coffee, but we will have to give up our front porch this morning being that it is raining outside. Dam. LOL Take care, stay safe and double down now on taking care of yourselves, with the Stage 3 of things opening.

Face Masks

Today many of us have started using homemade cloth masks to help stop the spread of corona-virus. But with more evidence being found ever day, things has shown that not all masks are created equal, and some don’t work at all. In order for a homemade cloth mask to stop viral transmission, it needs to have at least two layers of fabric. So, if your mask has just one layer of fabric, you can pretty well bet that it simply doesn’t work. But in saying that … until you get a good one, it is better than nothing. Common Sense will tell you that. Stay Safe!

Morning Report Jan 26/2020

Good Morning!. Starting things off the weather outside is not too bad. The sun is shinning once again with just a few clouds helping out with the heat. There is a lot of humidity in the air this morning which could bring a thunderstorm to our area later on in the day, tonight and into tomorrow. So if there is something that needs to be done best do it early in the day. Being Sunday Highway 522 is quiet this morning but I suspect it will pick up as the day moves forward. At this point in time with so many people working from home and on vacation Sunday means nothing in the way of slowing them down. Can’t say I blame them as it is in reality, just another day. On another note my wife and I did get some new roof vent installed in our new cottage we are working on. Today we will continue working away. I have to admit it is nice working outdoors for a change. Time is sure flying by though as August is almost upon us. Once into September the cool weather slowly starts to return. Good in some ways but not so good in other ways. I have a feeling this virus will get even worse once the cold weather makes it’s return, especially with opening back up the stores, churches, bars, restaurants and things. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will then let the day unfold around me. Take care stay safe and do what’s right. More so look after yourselves.

Morning Report July 25/2020

Good Morning!. It is looking like another really nice day for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning without hardly a cloud in the sky. Temperatures are sitting at 18.4 C | 65.12 F. This is the weather I enjoy. Highway 522 is busy these days, which is becoming a norm. It will likely remain this way for the remainder of the summer. I also see and hear that thousands of people are selling their homes in and around the large cities and moving to the country. I suspect it is the fear that this virus has more of a chance to get to them. I can’t say I blame them. Actually I think they are smart. Prices of homes say in our area and surrounding areas have always been on the low side, but now they are rising fast and I think they will continue to rise in price as time moves forward. I also think that people now are finding out that city life isn’t the place to be. Where there isn’t as many people is the place to be. On another note my veggie gardens are growing leaps and bounds and my wife is getting ready to do up some relish and sweet pickles for winter. Should be tasty. While she is doing that, I am going to be working in our store, as we are re-modifying it from a store to a cottage. We will still have a store, but in a different location on our property. But not this year, as we are keeping it closed. We might be closed to people coming in to see the store right now, but my wife is taking orders for signs and her paintings. Actually she has been quite busy this year with folks wanting her paintings and things. Nice to see. Also it is nice to see … that a few here in town are supporting us with our store being closed. Means a lot and helps a lot. The reason we are keeping the store itself closed is that it is small and there is no way we can do social distancing properly. Also we sell a lot of flutes and they need to be played and right now I don’t want anyone blowing into them. Not a good idea. But in saying that I still sell them out of the house but you can’t play them until you own them. I should also mention that if you want a flute, custom sign or a painting you can get in touch with us at [email protected] Or if in the area drop by and we can chat from a distance LOL. So with that, I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife on the front porch, and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report July 24/2020

Good Morning!. Things looks like it is shaping up for a really nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is showing off with only a few clouds in the sky. Temperatures are about perfect sitting at 14.8 C | 58.64 F. It will warm up as the day progresses. Highway 522 is busy these days with lots of campers and things moving through our area. The LCBO is lined up with Trucks, Campers, Cars and even Riding Lawn Mowers these days. Only in Port Loring. Where there is a will there is a way. LOL Today my lovely wife and I will do a bit of mowing around the house here, and then take things a bit easy this afternoon. Yesterday we went to town to pick up our groceries which we enjoy. Gets us out of the house for a day. We did notice that a lot of folks this time going in and out of stores were wearing masks. Which is a good thing. They weren’t doing as much social distancing as they used to be doing though, which isn’t a bad thing. So hoping they come to their senses in the near future. We then picked up our groceries, visited our son in the parking lot for a bit, picked up our computer that our son fixed, ate our lunch in our car while chatting on the phone to our other son, and came on home. Great day. With that, I am off to the front porch for my morning cup of coffee and take in what Nature has to offer. Great time to be outside, weather is good and no bugs. Good Morning! It’s another cloudy day here to start things off in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were nice sitting at 15.4 C | 59.72 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We should see some sunshine in a wee bit. Highway 522 is quiet this morning, but it is early. It will pick up a lot later on. Not to much happening in and around our town these days. I been busy working on some things in the shop that I have on the go, along with my Podcasts. Our vegetable gardens are growing leaps and bounds, and we had our first cucumbers yesterday for lunch. The zucchini is coming along too, and I suspect we will have one of them in some Spaghetti in a couple days. Today I will head on off to the dump and then work in my shop for a bit. Morning Report July 22/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The clouds will remain with us for most of the day with some showers or a thunderstorm thrown in for good measure. Temperatures have cooled down a lot which makes things a lot nicer. Waking up they were sitting at 17.1 C | 62.78 F. Things will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. Highway 522 was busy once again yesterday, with campers and you name it moving in and around our area. As I have been saying, if people keep doing what they are doing, by not wearing a mask, going to parties, not social distancing and things like that, it is going to get a lot worse. It’s already started. I am not sure what these people are thinking, other than they think they are invincible. Trouble arises though when these people think this way, as they might not get it to where they are really sick, but they give it to others. What we need now is using common sense, but it seems to me a lot are lacking it. We need to hang in there for just a little longer, as we are so close to getting some help. Anyways … that is my rant for this morning LOL. Today I will do some inside work as it looks like rain. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Good Morning! It’s another great looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with just a few clouds in the sky. What could be better than that. Even the heat has left us. Waking up temperatures were sitting at 12.7 C | 54.86 F. Kind of nice for a change. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. But not to where it was before. This is my kind of weather. Not to hot, some sun and a few clouds with temperatures at the point you can open all your windows and let in some fresh air. And on top of that, hardly any of them blood sucking parasites to annoy ya. Highway 522 is quiet this morning, but it is early. Yesterday the highway was really busy with trucks, cars, campers, pick ups with ATV’s, and boats on the back, along with some that I have to scratch my head figuring out. Motorcycles galore, with even lawnmowers running up and down the highway. I even seen one riding lawn mower with a case of beer on the hood. Only in Port Loring. LOL Today I will do a bit of work in my shop, then finish up another Podcast I started yesterday. Oh and of course some front porch sittin’ is in order too. Too nice outside to be inside. What Could Happen In Canada

This kind of shows you, what could … and will happen with the opening of stores and things to early here in Canada. All the red is new cases. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that this virus, is still with us stronger than ever. Oh I know, some will say … that is in the USA. Yep it is … but it is here too, and so far we have been lucky with most doing what is right. But the way some people are going now, especially with all these crazy protests and things, we could be in for some real trouble. You can protest all you want, not that it is going to do any good, but this isn’t the time. We just need to do what is right and hang in there for a bit longer, as our scientists are getting closer to some pretty amazing treatments. But if we don’t do what is right we could mess things up big time. My Opinion Only.

Morning Report July 20/2020

Good Morning! Weather wise things are looking pretty good for the next few days. Waking up it isn’t as warm and the sun is showing off. The winds are light and I suspect it will be a really nice day. We could possibly see a passing shower here or there, but nothing like what we had yesterday. The wind and heavy rain yesterday sure played havoc with my vegetable garden, knocking down my corn and tomatoes. I will see if I can ease them back into place in a bit. I would have to say yesterdays storm was about the worst I seen it here in the past fifteen years. It kind of makes me think our planet is changing. Highway 522 was very busy yesterday and I am sure it will be quite busy today too. But the good news is, with this rain we just had, things are sure looking healthy and green. Today I will be working on another Podcast for Friday, along with some front porch sitting with my lovely wife. We have to take advantage of these nice days when we can sit outside, as summer is moving along. So with that … I am off for my morning cup of coffee. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right.

Morning Report July 19/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy, humid day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We did have some rain through the night, and it will continue off and on for most of the day. We could have some severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 22.9 C | 73.22 F. So with that in mind, my wife and I will be doing some inside work. Which is okay with us, as we both have lots of things on the go. Highway 522 is slow this morning, but it is early and Sunday. Yesterday there was non stop traffic. I am not sure where they are all going, but one thing is for certain, they are out and about. Is it a good thing? Time will tell. Morning Report July 18/2020

Good Morning! It is looking like another really nice day is upon us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with temperatures sitting at 18.5 C | 65.3 F. We could see a thunderstorm later on this afternoon and into tomorrow. So … if you have things to do, it might pay to get them done this morning. Highway 522 is busy these days with lots of campers and things coming in and through our area. It is nice to see folks enjoying themselves, and I am alright with them doing what they are doing … as long as they do what is right, like wearing a mask, distancing and things like that. But a lot aren’t. That’s the not so good part. On another note my lovely wife and I did manage to get the grass cut yesterday so things are looking good around our home. We even had some time to do some front porch sittin’ which we will do once again today, until the rain starts. I have to say right now this is about as good as it gets, weather wise for our area. Mosquitoes and Black-flies are pretty well all gone. But there are some pesky deer and horse flies here and there. They can bite let me tell ya, and the worst part of them suckers is, they don’t leave you alone. But not much you can do about that. I also had a look at my cucumbers and Zucchini yesterday, and I am thinking there is one of each ready to eat, which we will have for lunch today. Lots more are about ready. Also our lettuce is growing leaps and bounds, but I will soon have to remove some kinds and plant new. Man it is the middle of July already. Time sure moves by fast these days. Morning report July 17/2020

Good Morning! Looking outside a nice day is about to be upon us. Temperatures will get hot though, as the day progresses. Waking up they were sitting at 17.7 C | 63.86 F. Highway 522 is quiet this morning, but it is early. Yesterday my wife and I went to North Bay to pick up a few things we ordered, visited our son in the parking lot, had lunch in our car and enjoyed the trip home. We did have a wee bit of rain on the way in, but for most parts, it was a good trip all way round. We did notice a lot more folks wearing masks, which is a good thing. Around our area, there are a few wearing them including us if out and about, but a lot aren’t. Now as we are entering Stage 3 everyone thinks things are almost back to normal. That is the furthest thing from the truth, as this virus is as every bit as bad as it was a few months ago. It’s patient and the folks that think they are invincible, I am afraid will learn a hard lesson. My opinion only of course. On another note the gardens are still growing leaps and bounds. I have to say, they never looked so good. I would suspect with all the lock-downs the air is much cleaner and the rains are more nourishing. Today my lovely wife and I will do some mowing once the grass dries a wee bit. Then maybe we will do some front porch sitting and relax. With that take care of yourselves and have a great day. GW
