George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Nice looking day out there.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at      2.4 C | 36.32 F.

Forecast For Today: Showery early, improving.  Will also start to warm up a touch.

Snow Report:  No snow overnight.

Highway Report:  Highway 522, 11, 69 bare and dry through out.  Great travelling weather.

Around Town:  My wife and I took a drive to North Bay yesterday to pick up a few items of choice.  Stores were packed with people, looking and buying.  Packages being put in cars in great numbers.  In theory this tells me our economy is growing.  Reason for this is in material but If asked I would say it is because the gas prices are down.  Folks now can and want to go places.  They have more money in their pockets.  More money means more spending, more spending means business’s thrive.  The benefits keep on coming for every one.  Great to see, one just has to notice what is going on around them.  Tea time here.  Violet leaf tea here this morning.  Makes you feel young.  Enjoy your day.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning: Cool day starting off with things.  Temperatures waking up were a touch cool sitting at -3.8 C | 25.16 F.

Forecast For Today: Showery early, improving.  Warmer temperatures will slowly edge their way in a bit late on today. For some real nice temperatures we will have to wait till the middle of next week.

Snow Report:  No snow overnight.  All we had the night before is gone.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry through out.  Travelling today will be perfect. All those that are travelling give yourself lots of time.  Patience  makes for a safe trip.  Don’t need anyone getting hurt on the highway when so much is waiting for them here in the north.

Around Town:  With some sunshine looking down upon us it will be a great day to get outside and let the body take in what is needed.  Also take in the fresh northern air as there is nothing more healthier when both combine.  Today I have some shop work to be done up and will get at that directly.  But to start things off a cup of fresh dandelion tea is in order.  Keeps the body as fit as a fiddle.  Enjoy your day my friends.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Well cool morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -2.6 C | 27.32 F.

Forecast For Today:  Unsettled, probably improving.  Things will start to clear up after today.  Should even see some sunshine tomorrow with temperatures warming up some.

Snow Report:  Over night we had around 1-2 inches of snow.  Kind of a winter wonderland out there waking up.  Will be short lived though.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout.  Care should be taken though this morning.

Around Town:  Well with these cold temperatures this morning the wood furnace is feeling good.  Other than that not to much happening around town.  Going to have my cup of tea, Orange Pekoe this morning with a piece of fresh dandelion.  That is if I can find one.  Great way to start the day, along with the dandelions potential of increasing ones appetite.  This is good, just one has to learn not to eat all the wrong things.  I like salads the fresher the better.   If you are going to be travelling this weekend take care, as you can be a great driver but it seems there is always a few that isn’t.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Cool wet morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures were sitting at       1.6 C | 34.88 F.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy, much rain.  Things will get even cooler for the next couple days then the sun should be upon us once again.

Snow Report:  No snow overnight.  We did have 10 more mm of rain through the night.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout. Travelling should be okay today.

Around Town:  Still quiet business wise.  Weather doesn’t help to much being as it is.  Still have the wood furnace burning away.  Nice thing is that wood heat takes the dampness away mighty quick.  Feels good to.  This new wood furnace we installed last fall was worth every penny we put into it.  Also we found it cut down our wood burning to about half compared to our old wood furnace.  On another note I noticed the buds are starting to show themselves on some of the trees and shrubs.  Sign of what is to come.  Soon we will see a mass of green along the horizon.  Looking forward to it too.  So you all have a great day.  Stay warm don’t need anyone getting sick.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Well cool morning waking up here in Port Loring:  Temperatures were sitting at 2.8 C | 37.04 F.  Will warm up some as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today: Stormy, may improve though in the next few hours. Will remain cool for the next few days.

Snow Report.  No snow over night but we did have around12 mm of rain. There is still ice on most of the lakes for those that are interested but it is melting fast.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout.  Travelling will be good for most of the day.

Around Town:  Not to much to report here this morning.  No news coming in on my end of things.  Stores are picking up some business wise.  We have had a few folks drop by saying hello.  So the trend towards summer is slowly edging in on us.  Also a lot of my friends are back from the sunny south and already dreaming of next year.  Can’t say I blame them neither.  Nothing is more healthy than to be where the sun is most abundant.  Tea time here,  Violet Leaf tea this morning with a leaf or two of dandelion.  Enjoy your day. Stay safe and warm, and don’t over do it.  Seems each spring folks push their body into things that it isn’t used to after its long rest through winter.  Ease into things and let your body tell you what it can and cannot do.  Saves a lot of grief and we all do want a fun summer right?  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]
