Good morning, folks. I came across something interesting in the news today, that might make you think twice about the whole global warming debate. Now, I said might.
What happened was—that this summer, a big patch of the Atlantic Ocean, right along the equator, suddenly cooled down at a record speed. When just a few months ago, this same stretch of water was the warmest it’s been in over 40 years. Which left scientists scratching their heads, wondering what on earth caused it.
Now, you’d think with all our advanced technology, we’d have a handle on this, but even the experts admit they’re puzzled. They’ve been tracking the ocean for decades, yet, this cooling event was something they didn’t see coming. It was so unusual that it almost triggered an “Atlantic Niña,” a climate pattern that could’ve changed rainfall in places like Africa and Brazil. But before that could happen, the waters started warming up again, so it seems we dodged that bullet.
In my mind-–this sudden cooling is just another example of how our planet has its own rhythms and cycles, ones that have been going on long before we started using oil, gas, and other resources. But in saying all that, it doesn’t mean we should ignore the environmental issues at hand, but it does remind us—that there’s more to our climate than just human activity.
Nature has a way of keeping us on our toes, and there’s still so much we don’t fully understand. So while the debate about global warming continues, let’s remember that the ‘Earth has been through plenty of changes on its own.‘
I believe it’s doing what it needs to do as it always has.
