George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Good Morning:  Finally some rain here waking up.  Temperatures are still warm sitting at: 21.9 C | 71.42 F.

Forecast For Thursday: Rain is in the forecast, heavy at times for most the day. Won’t be as hot as it has been.

Bug Report: Nothing to report here this morning with the rain.

Highway Report: Travelling will be good but care should be taken with a few critters making their way across.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  Then again from 4:30 PM – 8:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town: Well with the much needed rain the gardens are just a smiling this morning.  Tomatoes are turning nice and red and the taste is something one can never get enough of.  Great time of year to enjoy them along with other veggies.  On another note I did manage to get all my outside painting done up and the decks sealed for the year so happy about that.  Now will be directing my thoughts to firewood.  Hate to even think of the cold weather but certain things has to be done at certain times.  Our small store is still doing a brisk business so lots to keep one busy.  With that, heading off for a cup of tea and then get onto doing some inside work.  Enjoy your day, and stay safe.  Inquiries:  [email protected]

Information For Port Loring August 17/2015

Good Morning:  Warm Monday morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 22.7 C | 72.86 F.  Warmest morning so far this summer.

Forecast For Monday: Unsettled, probably improving. If your into hot warm weather enjoy as it will be with us for most of the week.  After that things will cool down considerably with a new trend entering into the picture.

Bug Report: Few Mosquitoes and deerflies annoying folks.  Seems they pick on the young more than the old.  But not so bad for this time of year.

Highway Report: Highway 522 is actually pretty quiet these days.  Folks are enjoying nature to its fullest by not moving around too much.  With prices of things today I can’t say I blame them.  Big going back to school sales too is taking up a bit of folks reserves I suspect.  Travelling will be good today.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 5:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again a bit later on from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town: Quiet is the norm it seems.  Gardens are growing quite well but heat is beginning to take its toll on things. Not much one can do either as the plants get stressed.  When that happens they stop producing.  So with that enjoy your day, don’t get to hot and stay safe.  Inquiries: [email protected]

Information For Port Loring August 16/2015

Good Morning:  Nice looking day out there.  Temperatures getting out of bed were sitting at 18.6 C | 65.48 F.

Forecast For Sunday: Very warm with a bit of rain possible for later on today or into tonight. Could see a thunderstorm tomorrow.  Heat brings on all kinds of weather.  One just really never knows.

Bug Report:  Few Mosquitoes entering into the picture along with some deerflies.  But not so bad that one can’t enjoy the outdoors.  Quite nice actually.

Highway Report: We do have a few day trippers going by these days. Most cottagers are here for the summer with their minds leaning towards fall.  One thing that we do have lots of is scenery, especially when the leaves start to turn colour.  Highway 522 is a bounty of beauty.  Travelling today will be good to go anywhere.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 3:30 PM – 8:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few. Not the greatest day. But one never knows, find the right spot where they are at and your stringer is full.  Winds this morning are calm coming in from the South.  Good Luck!

Around Town.  Well seasons are about to change, The First Day of Autumn  will fall on a Wednesday, September 23 this year.  Not too far off.  Hard to even think of winter moving in with these temperatures we been having.  But thinking on things is what needs to be done so we are ready for what’s to come.  Today I will just take things easy being that it is going to be so hot.  On another note the tomatoes are sure quite tasty this summer.  I been eating them every day.  Good to eat them fresh out of the garden.  Good for you too. With that heading off for my morning tea and do some front porch sitting. Enjoy your day and……..make it a good day, one to remember.  Inquiries:  [email protected]

Good Morning:  Was a sticky night last night for sleeping.  Unless you had air-conditioning.  For myself air bothers my sinus’s some but it is a lot better than sleeping on damp sheets.  The other downsize is the cost to run the darn things.  Technology today has helped in many ways, but the powers that be are holding us back with the costs to run things.  No reason for it neither.  Any ways, waking temperatures were sitting at 17.4 C | 63.32 F.  Will warm up considerably in a couple hours.

Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later.  For the next three days hot temperatures will be upon us.

Bug Report:  Just a few mosquitoes here and there but not so bad one can’t enjoy the outdoors.  Few spiders making an appearance this year. Actually quite pronounced in some areas.  Sign of a cold winter my friend Grey Wolf would say.

Highway Report:  Few critters making their way across between Highway 69 and Highway 11.  Care should be taken if out and about.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 5:30 AM  – 8:30 AM.  Then once again from 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few this morning and a 3 fish rating this afternoon.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Wife and I made a trip to North Bay for some supplies yesterday.  Found a few good sales here and there which made it a worth while trip.  I figure any time away from things is an asset to what one needs in staying fit.  Stores were quite busy with line up’s at all check-outs. North Bay is moving ahead with new business sprouting up all over.  Good to see.  Major corporations are now finding out what we have to offer here in the north and finally becoming a major player.  With that going to have my morning tea and chat to the wife a bit. Then will see what the day has in store.  Enjoy your weekend my friends and stay safe.  Inquiries Can Be Made At: [email protected]
