George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Information For Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  So how is everyone doing this morning?  Good I hope.  Great looking day with temperatures waking up sitting at 16 C | 60.8 F. Will warm up.  Great weather to do anything one chooses.

Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later with lots of sunshine.  Into tonight we could see a bit of rain and once again tomorrow morning. But sunshine will prevail for most parts.

Bug Report:  Nothing much to report in that department, things are good.

Highway Report:  Lots of cars, trucks and campers moving up and down highway 522.  Few deer and moose crossing here and there.  Travelling will be good today.  Kind of day that makes a person want to move around some.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 5:30 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then once again from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM.  And one more time from 4:30 PM – 8:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few today.  Great weather for fishing and reports are coming in that they have been biting.  Good to hear.

Around Town:  Lots of folks dropping by our small store.  Reports also coming in that most resorts are doing well this month.    I am happy about that as the owners work hard in keeping them going.  On another note been eating zucchini every day.  I like it when they aren’t to large. My wife likes to cut the zucchini in half lengthways. Using a spoon or a paring knife, scoop out some of the flesh, then fill the zucchini shells with the  mixture of extra ground beef mixed with fresh grated garlic and tomato sauce.  Some bread crumbs on the top make for a great look.  Cover with a 3 year old cheddar cheese. Place on the prepared tray, drizzle with a little melted butter and bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and ground beef is cooked. Quite tasty let me tell you. You could substitute the meat for an item of choice. Inquiries: [email protected]

Morning Information For Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Well once again it is a bit cloudy.  Temperatures were and have been quite nice for sleeping.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at, 16.9 C | 62.42 F. Will warm up some as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Tuesday: Changeable, mending a bit later on. Should see some sunshine in a bit and it will remain with us for the remainder of the week.  I would say it is going to be the nicest week so far this summer.

Bug Report:  Great days are upon us.  Hardly any bugs annoying folks.  Pretty well go or do anything one chooses to do outside.  Nice to be able to sit out all day long and take in what Nature has to offer. My kind of weather.

Highway Report:  Major Highways have been quite busy nearing the weekends.  Highway 522 is a great route for those interested in taking in Nature.  Few critters showing up on the sides of the Highway and a few making their way across.  Care should be taken if out driving.  Great day to travel.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick along with gathered data is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM.  Then again later on from 4:30 PM – 8:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating this morning for catching a few and a 4 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon.  Winds this morning are coming in from the North at 0.8 m/s | 2.88 km/h | 1.79 mph.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Been quite busy at our small store this week.  Lots of new faces with lots of folks dropping by  for items of choice. Also my wife’s paintings this year has been selling quite well.  Lots of folks from Toronto, and Southern Ontario making their way into our area to have a look see.  First week in August and about half of her paintings have been sold along with her painted cards with different scenes. On another note gardens are still quite dry and in need of some more rain but looks like we have had all that we are going to have for a spell.  Could see a sprinkle today but the amount will be far from what we need.  So looks like some watering will have to be done in the coming days.  Been eating tomatoes for the past few days fresh out of the garden.  Have to say they sure are tasty.  Skins are a touch thick this year caused by the hot dry weather.  With that going to head off for my morning tea, turmeric is my choice this morning.  I been battling a bout of psoriasis for the past couple months, on my shoulders, arms, legs and now in my hair and elbows, not pleasant to say the least.  So itchy one can hardly stand it.  I have been trying to seek out some Jewel Weed to see if it helps but so far can’t seem to find any. If anyone sees any and is in our area I would sure appreciate you cutting me some or letting me know where it is.  Also would like to hear of anyone that has had this problem and was able to bring it under control.  Have a great day.                                                                                      Inquiries:  [email protected]

Around Town;  We have been quite busy these days with folks dropping by our small store.  Also a few coming in saying how much they are enjoying the Blog. I thank you all for taking the time to say hello.  Sales have been brisk the past few days which says to me that more folks have decided to take their holidays in August.  Quite a few cars and trucks with campers and boats going by every day. I have heard the parks are also quite busy this month.  Resorts that I know of seem to be doing quite well too.  So all and all not so bad business wise for most folks.  Gardens are growing great these days.  Nothing nicer than to go outside each morning and looking down upon the plants knowing that one can have fresh veggies at any given time. In saying that one has to enjoy these bounties quickly as growing time is shore in our area.  With that make it a great day, only you can do that.  Inquirers: [email protected]
