George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Highway Report: Highway 522 Is bare and dry throughout.  Folks have seen a few deer and moose crossing in certain areas.  Care should be taken if out an about.  Travelling will be good.

Bug Report:  Other than a few deerflies annoying folks things are pretty good these days.

Fishing Report:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there ill be from 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM.  Then again later on from 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 this morning for catching a few and a 4 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon.  Good luck!

Around Town:  Quiet these days.  A few cars moving up and down the highway, but not to the extent where one would say busy.  Our small store has been quite busy though this summer, which is good to see.  On another note. Gardens with the rain we had is now growing leaps and bounds.  Won’t be long and we will be eating tomatoes.  I have started to dig our Garlic, hanging it where it is dark and dry.  Should have some good eating for most of the winter.  With that enjoy your day.                                                           Inquiries:  [email protected]

Forecast For Thursday:  Unsettled, short fine intervals.  Won’t be quite as warm today as the last few days.

Bug Report: Things are good these days.  No reason not to visit the north.  Fresh air, sunshine with clear skies all in abundance.  Great place to visit, or live for that matter.

Highway Report:  Good day for travelling.  Few critters out and about so care should be taken along the northern highways.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick along with gathered data is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:00 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then once again from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Things will improve quite a bit for the rest of the summer.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Lots of tourists and day trippers in and around our area. Our store has been doing a brisk business.  Good to see. On another note we did have a bit of rain last night which gave the plants a drink.  Not as much as I would have liked to see but a little is better than nothing.  Amazing how things can come back with just a touch of water.  With that a tea is in order.  Going to take it and sit outside and take in some of our cooler northern air.  Enjoy your day and stay safe if out and about.  Inquiries: [email protected]

Happenings For Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Well good looking day.  Starting things off temperatures were sitting at 19.2 C | 66.56 F at 8:00 AM.

Forecast For Today.  Few clouds and once again it will be very very warm.  Heat advisories are up in certain areas through the north.   There is no rain in the forecast for the next few days.

Bug Report.  Other than a few deerflies things are pretty good these days.  The heat of summer is taking care of the mosquitoes.  Okay by me.

Highway Report.  Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout. Critters are crossing here and there.  Travelling will be good other than the heat.  Also for those that loose their temper easily take things cool.  Rushing never brings on anything positive.

Fishing Report:  Fishing has slowed down some with the heat that is upon us. Like us humans fish aren’t as hungry in this kind of weather.  But if one seeks them out you might be lucky enough to catch a few.  Today the old weather stick along with gathered data is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM.  Then once again from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few this morning and a 3 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon.  Good Luck.

Around Town:  I have to say things are a bit slow in our area this season this far.  But thinking now that the Pan AM games are over it will improve starting this weekend.  Also should mention with the dry weather we been having care should be taken if having a camp fire.  Wouldn’t take much to start things off.  Gardens also are in dire need of some rain but it looks like they will be depending on us for the next few days.  With that tea time here and will see how the day unfolds around me.  Enjoy your day and don’t over do things.
