George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Port Loring Information, Fishing Times & Tips Along With the Weather.

Good Morning:   Well another day is lurking in the wings.  Always wonder with excitement where the day will bring us humans.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at 14.1 C | 57.38 F.  A bit cool for this time of year but one sure couldn’t find any better sleeping weather.  Things will warm up though as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:   Changeable, mending is the trend.

Bug Report:  Was a great day yesterday in amongst our pesky friends.  Not hardly a one out there annoying anyone.  Today will have to see  how it goes as things warm up with the sun starting to show herself.

Fishing Times & Tips:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there fishing will be from 7:30 AM- 10:00 AM.  Then once again from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give both times a 2 out of 4 fish rating for catching them.  Things will improve drasticly  nearing the weekend.  What could be better with a holiday on the horizon.  Today I don’t recommend any lure only fresh live bait.  Minnows would be my choice if going out.   Put one on your hook, let settle to to the bottom and get ready.  I am thinking this morning that Pickerel and Large Mouth Bass will be what is biting.  Don’t forget that there is no better place to buy your bait than Gohm’s Bait &Tackle. This bait and tackle shop offers convenience as they are open year round.  Reg the owner has all the supplies needed for a successful fishing trip.  Stop by and see Reg, as there is no nicer fellow in and around Port Loring Ontario.

Around Town:   Very quiet around town at the moment, but I am thinking it is a lull before the storm, as with the long weekend closing in on us, a whole new crowd of folks are waiting to head into the area.  And why shouldn’t they? As in my mind, there is no nicer place to take ones holidays than right here in Port Loring Ontario.  Scenery that is mind boggling, rivers and lakes filled with fish of all kinds, just waiting for someone to throw a line in the water, along with that we have places of business just waiting to serve you.  Not to forget all the serenity, solitude and fresh air that Mother Nature has to offer.  Would also like to mention once again that our Cornfest is fast approaching, which is another great event too, one that no one should miss. Lots of entertainment and one might say a really nice social outing for all walks of life to enjoy.  Young or Old.  You won’t want to miss it.  Click Flyer below for better viewing..ltss-0362

Port Loring Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good morning.  Well really nice looking day out there waking up.  Sun is showing herself and temperatures are rising as I type.  At the moment we are sitting at… 11.6 C | 52.88 F and will rise as the day marches forward.

Forecast For Today:   Fairly fine, possible showers early.

Bug Report:  Pretty good out there these past few days. Mosquitoes are with us along with some deer and horseflies but nothing to stop anyone from enjoying nature.

Fishing Times:     Well today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…7:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good day for putting fish on the table for supper I would think.

Around Town:   Here at our small store we have had a steady flow of people visiting along with purchasing items of choice.  I can hardly keep up with my flute making this year.  We still have a good selection though and some really nice sounding branch flutes using directly from nature what she has to offer.  Each one is tuned to perfection in the Pentatonic Scale.  Along with that being a branch flute each an everyone, is one of a kind.  Drop by sometime and I will let you listen to what they sound like.  Lessons are free with each purchase along with printed instructions.

On another note:  Got a flyer in the mail yesterday relating to a small company here in town that is advertising for work.  Click flyer below for better viewing along with all the things they are offering.  Enjoy your day my friends. ltss-0361GW

Port Loring Happenings & Fishing Times

Good morning.  Well a nicer day is upon us here starting off.  Temperatures are sitting at 12.9 C | 55.22 F.  Even got some sunshine showing herself a bit.  Nice to see that.

Forecast For Today:    Unsettled, probably improving though as the day progresses.

Bug Report:  Everything is fine in that department other than a few mosquitoes irritating folks.

Fishing Times:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from, 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM.  Then once again from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a two fish rating out of 4 for catching them.

Around Town:  Tourists are somewhat slow in making an appearance this season.  But weather and economy woes one just isn’t to sure on what they should be doing.  Like staying home and paying off bills or spending time in the north.  For some though it just doesn’t matter.  They figure they deserve a vacation along with some relaxation time and take it.  Kind of think that is the way to go, but I can see others points of view too.

On another our Farmers Market is up and running once again.  You can click the flyer below for all the details.  Enjoy your day my friends and if you get a chance get out and soak up some of that warm sunshine.  GW
