George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Staying In Where It Is Warm.

Well after a few days of heavy snow it’s finally stopped here in Port Loring and sure glad to see that it has.  Been working away here in the house where it is warm as just haven’t felt like going out. So figured it is a good time to work on my book.  The book is coming along great so far, lot of work but starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Talk Soon

SNOWFALL WARNING: North Bay – West NipissingIssued at 9:19 PM EST FRIDAY 5 DECEMBER 2008

SNOW AND LOCAL SNOW SQUALLS TONIGHT AND SATURDAY.

COLD ARCTIC AIR HAS MOVED OVER NORTHERN ONTARIO. THIS COLD AIR PASSING OVER THE RELATIVELY WARM WATERS OF LAKE SUPERIOR IS GENERATING LAKE EFFECT FLURRIES AND LOCAL SNOWSQUALLS. AT 9.15 PM EST..WEATHER RADAR SHOWS MULTIPLE SNOWSQUALLS COMING ONSHORE JUST NORTH OF MONTREAL RIVER TO WAWA EXTENDING UP TO 60 KILOMETRES INLAND. THESE SQUALLS COULD PRODUCE ADDITIONAL LOCALIZED AMOUNTS OF 10 TO 15 CENTIMETRES IN THESE AREAS. THE SQUALLS ARE EXPECTED TO SHIFT SLOWLY NORTH THIS EVENING AND ARE EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY. A SINGLE BAND MAY DEVELOP WHICH COULD BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES AND SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS NEAR 20 CENTIMETRES. COMPLICATING MATTERS IS AN APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH WILL BRING GENERAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF ABOUT 5 CENTIMETRES TO MUCH OF NORTH CENTRAL ONTARIO TONIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING. SNOWSQUALLS ALSO CONTINUE TO THE NORTHEAST OF GEORGIAN BAY. THESE SQUALLS HAVE MOVED INTO THE KILLARNEY AND WEST NIPISSING AREAS AND ARE EXPECTED TO SLOWLY MOVE INTO THE SUDBURY AREA TONIGHT. THE APPROACHING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL ALSO SERVE TO ENHANCE THE SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN THESE REGIONS. GENERAL AMOUNTS OF 15 CENTIMETRES WITH LOCAL TOTALS NEAR 30 CENTIMETRES ARE EXPECTED BY SATURDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW ASSOCIATED WITH THE SNOWSQUALLS AND THE LOW WILL END SATURDAY MORNING FOR REGIONS TO THE NORTHEAST OF SUPERIOR AND SATURDAY EVENING FOR THOSE AREAS TO THE NORTH OF GEORGIAN BAY AS WINDS SHIFT TO NORTHERLY IN THE WAKE OF THE SYSTEM. MOTORISTS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR DANGEROUS WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO LOW VISIBILITIES IN BURSTS OF HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

Snowfall warning for North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa Continued

Warnings

North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
6:06 PM EST Wednesday 3 December 2008
Snowfall warning for
North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa continued

Significant snowfall tonight.

A low pressure area is forecast to develop over the Great Lakes ahead of a cold front. Snow is occurring across a wide swath of central and northeastern Ontario. It will continue tonight and give 15 to locally 20 centimetres of snow to the North Bay region by Thursday morning. As of 6 PM North Bay has reported 5 centimetres. It will gradually taper off Thursday morning to a few flurries.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution due to accumulating snow and reduced visibilities in drifting and local blowing snow.
