Morning Report Oct 20/19

Our weather here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada is looking really nice here this morning. The sun is shinning with a few clouds. Temperatures were sitting at 5.9 C | 42.62 F. It will get a bit warmer as the day moves forward. Tomorrow though we are back to rain. Typical not so good weather for this time of year. Traffic is slow this morning on Highway 522, hardly a car or truck moving East or West. That will change in a bit with all the Church Goer’s LOL. Today I have some outside work to do on my woodworking shop. I figure I should fix it up while the sun is shinning. Then maybe I will clean it a bit getting it ready for the cold weather. I also need to clean the chimney. Once done I will finish up the day if lucky sitting outside taking in what Nature has to offer with my lovely wife. There won’t be many more days that one can sit outside without too many clothes on. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee.

Morning Report Oct 19/19

Finally, we are seeing some sunshine waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should have sunshine for most the day and into tomorrow. Temperatures though were a bit cool getting out of bed sitting at -0.2 C | 31.64 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Looking out the ground and grass is white with frost. I am happy I finish up my vegetable gardens and got my garlic planted for next year. Today we will do some work here in the house it being so cold outside, which will take most the day. More birds are coming to our bird feeder, a sign that colder weather is ending their food supply a bit. My wife and I enjoy watching them as they come to visit. Something to watch in this vast wilderness other than trees, snow, and snowplows going up and down the highway. Yesterday my lovely wife and I went to North Bay to take Karl our son to lunch for his birthday. Had a great lunch and visit. While there, we picked up a few groceries. Arrived back home around 4:00 PM. I have to admit it was a really nice trip, the sun came out and actually there for a few minutes … we did run into our first snow. Sign of what is to come I suspect. But for most parts the day was sunny. The leaves are about 80% gone, but it still was nice looking at what is left as we drove along. The Tamarack is out in full colour now too, which makes for another round of colours for a couple weeks or so. We enjoy watching them changing colours too. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife.

On our trip to town yesterday we saw lots of trucks and trailers with ATV”s and camping gear heading our way, so one should take care while walking in the bush. Put guns or ?, in the hands of many humans, one needs to be careful. Not a good time to be pleasure walking around in the bush. If you do … wear bright colours so someone doesn’t mistake you for something your not. Good Luck and Stay Safe.

Morning report Oct 18/19

Cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Waking up temperatures were sitting at 1.5 C | 34.7 F. Furnace is running for most the day now. Won’t be long, and we will be starting up the wood furnace. Today I have some work to do in the woodworking shop. I have a few sign orders along with some other small orders. Once that is done I should be pretty well set for winter. After that I will take some time for chatting with my lovely wife. Not that we don’t do any through the day. LOL Highway 522 is slow these days with the tourists all back home. Cottages have been closed up for another year. The trees have lost most of their leaves and the birds have migrated or at least half of them. The crows are still with us and I did see a few Robins drop by to say goodbye yesterday, but today they are gone. With that I am off for my morning coffee and will let the day unfold around me.

Morning Report Oct 17/19

Another cloudy day with showers here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Through the night we had rain but not as much as they predicted. Today will be much like it is now. But tomorrow, if lucky, we might see some sunshine. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 5.8 C | 42.44 F. It won’t warm up much more. Today with it being a miserable day weather wise I will stay in and maybe if the urge hits write up a story or two. I do have a sign order to cut out and get ready but it can wait till a better day. There is hardly a car moving East or West on Highway 522 this morning. I suppose everyone is taking life a bit easy. Which is a good thing after a busy summer. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee.

Morning Report 16/19

We all woke up to rain here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Through the night we had some heavy rain with lots of thunder. Lasted so long it woke me up. The rain will continue on into tomorrow and the next day before the sun shows itself again. Yesterday it did clear up in the afternoon with a bit of sunshine. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 6 C | 42.8 F. My wife and I took advantage of the nice weather and got the vegetable garden cleaned up and covered it with leaves and then tilled it up. After that I planted our garlic for next year. While I did that, my lovely wife raked up the leaves. We then both closed the store for the winter and brought things inside where it is warm. So it was a busy day. Today we will take it a bit easy with it being rainy. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee.

So … Thanksgiving is over with, and folks are getting back to their daily events. Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada with a few showers thrown in for good measure. Temperatures are a touch cool sitting at 5.3 C | 41.54 F. We have the oil furnace working away this morning once again. Won’t be long it will be running steady. It should warm up a bit as the day moves forward. Today if the rain eases off we might get to cleaning out our vegetable garden and then maybe till it up. Once that is done and the garlic is planted for next year I am thinking we are ready for winter. Not that I am looking forward to it. With that I am off for a cup of coffee and will then see what mischief I can get myself into.

Morning Report Oct 14/19

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving! Today waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada it is cloudy, a touch cool and rainy. But other than that it is a great day. Temperatures were sitting at 4.3 C | 39.74 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. We could see some breaks in the sky and a bit of sunshine if we are lucky. Tomorrow and Wednesday we will have more rain. I am hoping it holds off for a day, so I can rake some leaves for our garden and get it tilled up. Then I would like a day to plant my garlic for next year. I don’t think that is asking much. On another note I noticed this morning at our bird feeder the black birds are back. They are here usually in the spring and throughout the winter months. I guess their food supply is dwindling and our feeder looks inviting. We enjoy watching them. Today my lovely wife is cooking us a turkey with home made dressing. I am looking forward to that. I started the shop stove earlier and today I will finish up some shop work. A little heat feels pretty good these days. Yesterday was another busy day in our store but I suspect after Thanksgiving it will slow down. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will see what the day has in store for us … other than what I am planning on doing. Again … I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.

We did wake up to a wee bit of sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But then clouds rolled in. We can expect some showers off and on throughout the day with cooler temperatures. At the moment temperatures are sitting at 6.1 C | 42.98 F. Winds are coming in from the South West which helps a bit. Today I will be taking it somewhat easy. I have a few things to do in my shop which will keep me busy for most the day. Yesterday was a really busy day at our store with folks picking up orders and things. Today hardly a car moving East or West on Highway 522. Everyone is taking life easy. Can’t say I blame them. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. Morning Report Oct 12/19

It’s a rainy day here for us in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Not the greatest weather to start off a Thanksgiving Weekend. But not much we can do about it other than make the best of it. Yesterday my lovely wife and I went to North Bay and had supper at Lott 88 with our son Karl. Had a great meal a bottle of fine wine and to top things off a piece of Baileys cheesecake. Can’t get much better than that. After supper, we picked up a few things at the grocery store and came home arriving back in Port Loring around 7:00 PM. Seems no matter how we try going to North Bay takes a full day. Today I have a bit of shop work to do with a few people dropping by to pick up orders. It will be a full day. On another note we had to turn the oil furnace on this morning to take the dampness out of the house. Feels good too. I don’t like to start the wood furnace till it gets freezing. I still have to till up my veggie garden yet, but I am waiting till the leaves are all down as I like to put them in the garden before tilling. Makes for a really nice fertilizer and soil rejuvenater come spring. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 9.8 C | 49.64 F. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat.

Another really nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning and temperatures at the moment are sitting at 8.8 C | 47.84 F. It will warm up a lot as the day progresses. Which is okay with me. Tomorrow however we will see some showers. We could see some lingering showers off and on all weekend. But you never know. Let’s hope it is really nice for Thanksgiving. We usually head off to see our boys for Thanksgiving but this year we will be at home as one has a cold. And truth be known my lovely wife and I really don’t want to catch it. Yesterday we did manage to clean out the eve-troughs and fixed a few things as we went along. Owning a home there is always something to fix. Not complaining mind ya. It’s nice to be able to say we are able to do it. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will see what the day has in store for us other than what we planned out. GW

We all woke up to sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Yesterday was a great day, warm, sunny and a light breeze. Today will be the same. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 4.8 C | 40.64 F. It will warm up considerably as the day moves forward. We can’t complain about the weather at this point. Yesterday I got some sorting done in my lumber pile that had lying around for the past ten years or so. Some not so good, some so, so and some great. At least I have it, so I know what I got and easy to get at. Today my wife and I will clean up the eve-troughs as our huge pines can sure make a mess of things. They have pretty well dropped all their needles for the year. After that I will work on installing my storm windows in the back porch and then … maybe do some front porch sittin’ and enjoy all the Fall Colours. Sure is a pretty time of year. Morning Report Oct 9/19

So, I missed a couple days here on the Blog. Wife and I decided to take a getaway trip down around Goderich. Really nice area. I think it is good now and then to breath in some new air and seen new things. Gets the mind working on what you want to do in life. We had a great trip, and even brought back some freshly picked apples from the Collingwood area. Can’t beat that area for apples. Arrived back home around six last night. Today I will head off to the dump and then maybe go through an old pile of wood I have piled out back. I have some really nice Basswood blocks I been saving now for over ten years. They are 4 feet (121.92 cm) long, 8 inches (20.32 cm) thick. Thinking I will plane them down and sell some if it. Great wood for carving birds and things. Cool morning waking up temperatures were sitting at 5.1 C | 41.18 F. We did have some frost last night too. Once things warm up a touch I will venture outside. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will see what mischief I can get into. GW

Morning Report Oct 6/19

It’s a rainy morning waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We are supposed to have some sunshine today but the way things are looking right now it’s hard to believe. But that’s the way Mother Nature does things. Temperatures are warmer this morning sitting at 11.4 C | 52.52 F. The wet weather will help the trees to lose their leaves a bit quicker, especially if we have some wind. Hardly a car moving east or west on Highway 522 this morning. Most of the tourists have left and the cottagers have closed things up for winter. You could say it is time for a breather for us that live here. I don’t mind myself, as we did have a really busy summer. But it does look like I will have a bit of work to do this winter with another new book coming out along with two more columns to write every week. It should keep my mind active, which is a good thing. This morning I am going to see about finishing up some small orders in the woodworking shop and this afternoon my wife and I will take things a bit easy. Maybe have a drink or two together. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat. I should also mention for those that haven’t heard, they scheduled a power outage today from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Canadian Trucking Jobs

Interesting article and I believe it too, as I have never seen so many truck related accidents. I am not against anyone taking up a career in driving trucks but I do believe they should have a lot more training before being allowed to drive them big rigs. Nice sunny morning waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Seeing the sun makes a fellow want to get out of bed. Temperatures are a bit cool though … sitting at 3.8 C | 38.84 F. Also looking out the roof’s and grass are white, so we did have a good frost. I am glad I brought in the last of my tomatoes and things. But we are into October. The leaves our out in full colour and folks are coming into the area to have a look see and take some pictures. Yesterday we had numerous people drop by for a visit which is nice to see. Sold a few books and some Flutes late in the day. Today I will be doing some work inside the house here. I might even put on my two storm windows in the back porch. Makes it that much nicer with the cold days of winter. Then I have some shop work to do, cleaning up a few small orders. So with that. Another cloudy morning waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the moment are quite cool sitting at 4.3 C | 39.74 F. It will warm up a wee bit later on as the day progresses. I missed my morning post here yesterday as my wife and I decided to take a drive and look at the leaves. I have to say they sure are a sight to see. There isn’t a human artist in the world that can match what Mother Nature has to offer. Other than my lovely wife of course. But then … she even admits she has been outdone. If you want to see the leaves in full colour, this is the week for it. The clouds should clear a bit later and the sun should make an appearance, which in turn will make the colours even more enticing. We should also be seeing lots of sunshine all next week. That will be nice. This is one of my most favourite times of the year, although, I am not looking forward to the cold and snow that lies ahead. Today I have some work to do in my gardens, that should keep me busy for the day. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day do what it wants. GW

Well here it is October already. Man where does the time go? Seems like we just started summer. This morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada it is cloudy with rain. By the looks of things rain will remain with us for another couple days. Temperatures this morning are quite warm, sitting at 16 C | 60.8 F. It will warm up today with a warm front moving through our area. Then tomorrow things will cool once again. Like a roller coaster. Today I have some inside work to do as I didn’t get to it yesterday. But I did manage to get my vegetable garden all cleaned up. The only thing left now is a few tomatoes that I left laying on the ground after pulling out the plant themselves. I also have some Kale and the new row off romaine lettuce I planted a few weeks ago is coming along. If the warm weather holds we might have a few feeds from it. Cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is trying to make an appearance, but clouds are holding it back. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 3.4 C | 38.12 F. We actually had a frost last night which didn’t help certain vegetables in our garden. I did cover a lot of things, so we will still be eating fresh lettuce and things for a while yet. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. Tomorrow and into Tuesday we can expect a bit more rain but after that I think we should have some dry weather for a change. Seems we have had nothing but rain now for the past two weeks or so. But in saying that the trees and things do need the rain to help them get ready for winter. Highway 522 is quiet this morning with the only cars moving around is the locals. Not sure where they are heading with only two stores and one of them is closed on Sunday, LOL. Today I have some things to move around here in the house so that will keep me busy for most the day.
