Drink More Water Folks

You know for years I have been saying folks don’t drink enough water.  Should say good water.  Take a look at this article.

It’s not just American adults who are faced with an epidemic of obesity. Children and adolescents are becoming overweight at an alarming rate. In fact, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) statistics show the prevalence of obesity among children between the ages of 6 to 11 has more than doubled in the past 20 years.

But now a study just published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine concludes there’s a simple and effective way to reduce the excess intake of calories causing childhood overweight and obesity, as well as contributing to cavities and other health problems. The solution isn’t a new drug — it is simply drinking more water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages

Good News For Coffee Drinkers

Well now.  I gotta’ tell you I sure enjoy my afternoon coffee. My wife and I have been having a cup or two every afternoon for a good many years.  Perked coffee though not the instant kind or the kind in them cheap coffee percolator’s. My son bought me a real good percolator for my birthday and we sure are enjoying it.  Has different settings on it for keeping it hot. I sure hate cold coffee.  Also I like it with raw sugar, can’t be beat.  Take a  look at this article.

It’s a pleasant surprise when something questionable turns out to be full of health benefits. First chocolate was found to prevent heart disease. Then red wine was shown to increase overall longevity. Now the spotlight is on coffee. Newly released studies reveal that coffee drinking lowers risk of stroke, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia. It even improves social skills and depressive symptoms. Other recent research has shown that drinking coffee reduces the risk of diabetes. Also a cup of coffee contains up to four times as much antioxidant activity as a cup of green tea contains. Myself I don’t care for that green tea.  Some say it’s good I say well……………….to each their own.  Now in saying all this remember one word. Moderation, Moderation, Moderation.

Colorectal Cancer, Don’t Be Fooled

You know here is another item that has gotten way out of hand in my eyes. Today they are suggesting folks to go in for colonoscopies . Thing is even if one does what they say and have these tests the test only shows about half of what it is suppose to, if that in my eyes.  I am no doctor by no means but I am thinking that one should be looking at alternative measures first. Like eating properly and putting good things back into ones body that has been killed off by the things we are eating today. Take a look at this article. Almost says what I am thinking.  My opinion only as usual.

A British research team headed by Professor Donald Maxwell Parkin of Cancer Research UK Centre for Epidemiology, Mathematics, and Statistics in London reports natural approaches involving a healthy lifestyle could slash the rate of on in Great Britain over the next 24 years. And there’s no reason to think the strategies wouldn’t prevent the same cancers in other countries, too.

The new research suggests that changes in diet, exercise, alcohol use, and body weight could cause the rate of colorectal cancer in the U.K. to plummet by over one-fourth. This is a ten percent higher reduction in the number of cancers than would most likely be prevented by a proposed national medical screening.  So use common sense.  Preventative med. is a better way to go than what is out there today.

E. Coli. Take Note

Another warning not to eat Safeway lean ground beef sold in Sask, Man, and NW Ont.

The lean ground beef affected was sold in packages of approximately 450 grams with the first part of the UPC being 201670 and a Canada establishment number of 573.

The meat was prepared for certain Canada Safeway stores in northwestern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The affected packages bear a Best Before or a Freeze By date of March 19 and were sold from March 13 to March 19 and are no longer available for sale.

Consumers who may have previously purchased this product and have it in their freezers are advised not to eat it.

The Cancer Industry Is Big Business

Interesting Words. I am kind of inclined to agree with them too. Take A Look.

The cancer industry is big business at its worst. It recruits patients by telling them the lie that they have no control over whether or not they get cancer. The cancer establishment likes to have people think that cancer is a magical disease that comes out of nowhere and randomly singles them out. It wants everyone to believe there will be no cure for the disease until the drug industry magically finds one. This will never happen because the drug industry benefits from people having cancer, just as the cancer establishment does.

Those who have been diagnosed with cancer say it was the worst moment of their life, not because they were afraid of death, but because of the treatments. A diagnosis of cancer is so terrifying that it strips people physically, mentally and emotionally, leaving them just where the cancer industry wants them. Vulnerable. In a vulnerable state most people will agree to do as they are told.

The cancer industry depends on this vulnerability turning people into patients who think if they do not do as they are told, right away and always, they are doomed. Fear is the mother’s milk of the cancer industry. This is why cancer doctors love to quote statistics that frighten and bewilder. And this is why cancer treatments are so torturous and scary. As long as the cancer industry has people too scared to think straight it has a steady stream of dependable revenue.

More people die from the treatments for cancer than of cancer itself. The treatments destroy the immune system and organs so that people may remain alive for awhile but will never achieve good health again. For them life becomes a constant battle against other diseases and the side effects of the toxic treatments and follow up. Radiation and chemicals cause cancer. They can never cure it.

Cancer really can be prevented and cured

People can prevent cancer and cure it. This has been proven and the scientific case studies are there. Hormonal imbalance, chemicalization, lack of proper nutrition, unhealthy digestive tract, reliance on drugs, too much stress, lack of exercise, and not enough sleep have all been shown to cause cancer. People who choose to address these areas of their lives will be on their way to living long, happy lives that are cancer free.

Bottled Water

Bottled water across the country contains a wide variety of toxic substances, according to laboratory tests.

“Tests strongly indicate that the purity of bottled water cannot be trusted. Either can the plastic bottles it is put in.” “Given the industry’s refusal to make available data to support their claims of superiority, consumer confidence in the purity of bottled water is simply not justified.”  Amazing folks even buy it. Kind of makes one think how this old world has gone.  Nature gave us fresh clean water for free enough for everyone in the beginning. We then polluted and wasted it till there is hardly any left that safe to drink.  Progress some say.  Well I won’t  elaborate on what I think.  My opinion only.

Bacon & Eggs, Hmm……….Good!

Good old bacon and eggs.  Well the eggs are OK and I would say a bit of bacon wouldn’t hurt any one. Remember this one word, moderation. I have eaten a lot of eggs through out my life and still do today. Especially for breakfast.  I also like them pickled and boiled with salt and pepper, when a snack urge strikes. Can’t be beat.  Take a look at this article.

Eating eggs does not significantly raise the body’s cholesterol levels, according to a new study conducted by researchers from the University of Surrey and published in the Nutrition Bulletin of the British Heart Foundation.

The researchers reviewed the results of several different studies on eggs and nutrition, concluding that eggs did not contribute significantly to the body’s cholesterol levels. Although eggs are in fact a high-cholesterol food, the researchers note that only one-third of the body’s cholesterol comes from dietary sources; the rest is produced by the body from saturated fats. As a consequence, saturated fat intake plays a far more significant role.

Good Old Broccoli

One more reason to get out there this spring and get to planting a garden.  Take a look.

A chemical that naturally occurs in broccoli may help protect the lungs against the damage that leads to lung disease, according to a study conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

Home Grown Coffee & So Good For You

Using the shovel to dig as many dandelion  roots as you want; it takes about 10-15 small roots for a cup of this alternative coffee. Cut off and wash the carrot-like roots; pat them dry and lay them out on a cookie sheet.

Roast them at 200 degrees F till you can smell chocolate: they should look chocolate brown, and snap like dry sticks. Stick ’em in the grinder, then into the coffee filter to brew. You’ll have to adjust the strength to your liking; I used about two tablespoons of grounds for one cup of coffee.

Dogs Poisoned

Kind of makes a fellow wonder what is good out there to eat these days huh? Or should say what is safe to eat and now it seems even our pets have to take notice.  My Opinion Only

Port Perry pups poisoned

Garlic To The Rescue

Take a look at this article.  I am inclined to agree with it to a point, as I think everyone should be eating and using garlic at least once every two days.  Keeps us healthy and protects us from all kinds of diseases.  So………..jut one more reason to grow your own. Oh’ and don’t buy the kind grown off shore if at all possible as their regulations for growing things isn’t good in my eyes and one just doesn’t know what is in it.  Best thing to do is grow your own. My Opinion Only

It takes prescription antibiotics to breed super bugs, and many U.S.
doctors are more than happy to keep on prescribing — even when patients
don’t need the drugs. But when infections become resistant to even the
most “powerful” antibiotics on the menu, where should you turn? To
nature, of course, where the humble garlic plant offers solutions that
even the most overhyped pharmaceutical labs can’t match. Garlic kills
superbugs, even when antibiotics fail. So why don’t U.S. doctors
prescribe garlic? Because drug companies don’t promote garlic. It’s
simply not profitable. You see, in practice, good science gets tossed
out the window. Using garlic to heal patients is good science and good
medicine. But most M.D.s are hardly willing to touch it. Even the news
about this comes from outside the USA

Antibacterial Pencils

A lot of folks think that this antibacterial products sham has gone way too far. Yesterday I heard of a fellow that was shopping at Office Depot, and guess what he found? Antibacterial pencils. Can you believe that? He found some mechanical pencils made by PaperMate that have an antibacterial coating. Unbelievable.

We’ve seen antibacterial hand soaps and dish soaps, shampoos and all kinds of other personal care and cleaning products. And we’ve seen all the bad news about this, as well, including the fact that they are completely and utterly useless at actually protecting people from germs, viruses or contagious disease. These chemicals basically create super bugs in your own kitchen. They actually encourage the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and they do nothing to make you healthier because we don’t live in a sanitary environment in the first place.

You know, we live with bacteria all around us. In fact, our immune system needs to be stimulated by some exposure to bacteria in order to be healthy enough to defend ourselves against those really aggressive ones that might make us sick. We  have to have bacteria in our environment if we want to be healthy. Is it to late to fix? Well guess it depends on how far we let it get of hand in the future.

My Opinion Only

Spreading Bacteria

Kind of makes a fellow think that maybe one should have listened to their old Grandmother, when it comes to staying healthy, instead of all these things they got today. My opinion only.

First came word that popular antibacterial hand soaps are not only unnecessary (old fashioned soap and water is the best way to keep germs from spreading) but the chemicals in them can harm your health and environment. Now a new study says instead of killing potentially dangerous infections, disinfectant wipes may actually spread drug-resistant and sometimes deadly bacteria. And, like antibiotics, antibacterial chemicals in wipes and other household products may kill off susceptible but harmless bacteria but promote the growth of resistant strains.

People With High Cholesterol Live The Longest

Kind of figured this is what happened.  Sure glad I am not on any cholesterol med.  I tried it once for a month then decided against it. This was around twenty years ago. Guess I had a weak moment but soon got back on track and went by my instinct.  Take a look at this article. My opinion only.

People with high cholesterol live the longest. This statement seems so incredible that it takes a long time to clear one´s brainwashed mind to fully understand its importance. Yet the fact that people with high cholesterol live the longest emerges clearly from many scientific papers. Consider the finding of Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with a high cholesterol.1 Supporters of the cholesterol campaign consistently ignore his observation, or consider it as a rare exception, produced by chance among a huge number of studies finding the opposite.

But it is not an exception; there are now a large number of findings that contradict the lipid hypothesis. To be more specific, most studies of old people have shown that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for coronary heart disease. This was the result of my search in the Medline database for studies addressing that question.2 Eleven studies of old people came up with that result, and a further seven studies found that high cholesterol did not predict all-cause mortality either.

Now consider that more than 90 % of all cardiovascular disease is seen in people above age 60 also and that almost all studies have found that high cholesterol is not a risk factor for women.2 This means that high cholesterol is only a risk factor for less than 5 % of those who die from a heart attack.

But there is more comfort for those who have high cholesterol; six of the studies found that total mortality was inversely associated with either total or LDL-cholesterol, or both. This means that it is actually much better to have high than to have low cholesterol if you want to live to be very old.

X-Rays

First off I am against any X Rays  if they are not really proven necessary.  I feel there is to many folks now being subjected to radiation for no reason.  Just wished i knew back then what I  know now as every X Ray that I have had through out my life would have never been done on me. I would have said  no back then as I do today.  Take a look at this  article.  My Opinion Only

The use of MRIs, X-rays or CT scans provides no benefit in diagnosing patients with routine back pain, according to a new study conducted by researchers from the Oregon Health and Science University and published in the journal Lancet.

Chocolate Is Good For You, Pure Cocoa That Is

I have always figured a nice hot cup of cocoa is sure good for what ails a feller. Take a look at this article.

Studies have now proven that chocolate is good for you. It is rich in antioxidants and has many health benefits, including lowering blood sugar and cholesterol. Cocoa comes from the Theobromo cacao plant. Half of the cocoa bean is made of fat in the form of cocoa butter. Cocoa powder is the edible non-fat part of the cacao bean. Most of the fats in chocolate are saturated, but it also contains lots of the “good” fats: oleic and linoleic acids.

Honeybees Are Disappearing

The first alarm was sounded in autumn 2006. Honeybees are disappearing across the United States and Canada, with half of the States affected and beekeeper losing 30 to 90 percent of colonies; one beekeeper with 1200 colonies expected 9 to survive the winter. The problem began more than two years ago and has intensified in recent months. The bees simply vanish relatively suddenly, with little or no dead adults in or near the colonies, leaving behind the queen and a few young. In cases where the colony appears to be actively collapsing the workforce seems to be made up of young adult bees, insufficient to feed the brood, but are reluctant to consume provided feed. This “colony collapse disorder” (CCD) is particularly devastating for growers of fruits and vegetables, as they depend on insect pollinators.

My theories is that most of these bees are dying because of all the pesticide use that we are using today. Just common sense that if you spray your crops with insecticides, you are going to kill bees too and make them sick. Not to mention what it is doing to us humans who are eating the fruits and vegetables.  My Opinion Only

Salt Water Chicken, Not Good

The way things are going pretty soon there won’t be anything safe to eat anymore. Sure a shame the road some of us humans have chosen for us working folks. My Opinion Only.

People shouldn’t be paying chicken prices for saltwater. But some unscrupulous poultry producers add as much as 15 percent saltwater—and then have the gall to label such pumped-up poultry products “natural.” Some in the industry euphemistically call chicken soaked or injected with salt water “enhanced chicken.” Of course this isn’t really about enhancing chicken, it’s about enhancing profits. Someone’s clucking all the way to the bank.

Adding injury to insult is the fact that these “enhanced” products are much less healthy for you than the natural, unenhanced versions, because they contain up to five times as much sodium. Sodium, of course, tends to increase blood pressure and the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Americans & Canadians consume way too much sodium as it is, and the last thing we need is more sodium tucked surreptitiously into otherwise low-sodium foods.

Neck Problems & Tension This Should Help

I gotta’ say this does help after sitting writing my stories for a few hours. GIve it a try sure can’t hurt ya.

1. Relax Your Breathing. If you do nothing else, do this simple breathing technique. Natural breathing is the foundation for the mind and body to relax and for qi to flow throughout the body. Stand in a comfortable position with your feet shoulder width apart, arms at your side, and knees slightly bent. Breathe into your stomach, allowing your abdomen to gently rise on inhale and fall on the exhale. After practicing for a while, this type of breathing often becomes your natural breath and you will feel more relaxed and calm. For a more in depth explanation, read this post.

2. Shake It Out. Maintaining the relaxed breathing, slowly begin to rock your shoulders and arms back and forth. Gradually increase this movement and shake out any tension. Remember to smile and have fun with it. You might even try adding a hardy belly laugh.

3. Gaze at the Heavens and Earth. Standing in the same position, relax your face and eyes. Slowly, bend your neck down and look at the ground, allow your muscles to relax. Then gently raise your head and look up. Try not to focus your gaze on any one particular object, but relax and look into the distance. Repeat this motion for about ten repetitions.

4. Look Both Ways Before You Cross. From a forward looking position, rotate your head to the left. When you have reached your limit, hold your head there for a moment and inhale, then slowly turn your head back to the right. Be careful not to over rotate which can cause pain and injury.

5. Rotate your head. Very very slowly roll your head in circles. Keep your eyes and face relaxed. Start rolling to the right ten times and then to the left. This is great to do in the middle of the day if you have minor neck pain.
