Morning Chat April 30/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature waking up was sitting at 2.4 C | 36.32 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is today. Actually we could see a few intermittent flurries this afternoon. We did have an inch or so of rain through the night which filled my rain barrel. I like to get it filled up around this time of year, so I have some nice soft rain water for my plants that we are going to put into the ground in a couple of weeks or so. Highway 522 is sort of quiet these days, but there are a few out-of- towner’s moving into the area. Even with the stay at home order in effect, there is still a lot of people travelling all over the place. I don’t understand peoples logic these days. Not much we can do about it, other than to stay vigilant, and always be on guard protecting ourselves and family when near someone we don’t know. Actually … even those we do know. LOL Pays to be safe. On another note, I didn’t do much outside yesterday, but I did write up a story for my newspaper columns. Today I will see if I can come up with another. With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal with my lovely wife, and will then see what develops. Stay safe!

Morning Chat April 29/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 7.3 C | 45.14 F. If we are lucky we could see a wee bit of sunshine off and on throughout the day. For the long range forecast, here in Port Loring, things isn’t looking all that great, with lots of clouds and rain entering back into the picture for a few more days. On another note we are still burning firewood these days. I have been lighting the wood furnace every morning to take the dampness out of the house and basement. I haven’t been doing much work in my old woodworking shop, but we did manage to get out for a few hours on Tuesday getting things levelled for our new shower house for our cottage. It will make it nice for family and friends that want to come for a visit. Once things settle down a bit with this virus that is among us. I am also thinking we will be doing some mowing soon, with the way the grass is growing. In some places it is ready to mow now. And after that it won’t be long before we can plant our vegetable gardens. I can’t wait for them to get growing, so we can have fresh salads and things every day. Today I will be working inside being kind of cool, and wet. The cold wet dampness sure plays havoc with my sinuses and body these days. Sign of getting old I suppose. With that take care and stay safe. These new strains of the virus is sure taking its toll on the younger folks. The problem is … if they keep up these protests and things, along with not wearing a mask things will get a lot worse for them and others; The way this virus mutates is from lots of people congregating together. Just look at India what happened when they opened back up. Not a good thing to be doing in my eyes. Also, we should shut down all air travel till we get things under control with these vaccines. Anyways … have a good day, make it a good day. GW

Morning Chat April 27/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada, It is a touch cool, with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at 3.6 C | 38.48 F. It will remain cloudy, and we could see a few showers off and on for the next two days. By the looks of things we won’t see much sunshine until the weekend. Not much we can do about it, other than get some work done that needs to be done inside. That’s what I am planning on doing. Yesterday I did get outside and put in another few feet of under drainage pipes, by my shop that I have been wanting to do for the past few years. It was a job being that I was digging in wet clay. But it is done, and now we will see if I get rewarded for my work. The soil is sure wet right now. I also rearranged my firewood pile getting it ready for my new wood we ordered. I don’t know, but it always makes me feel good seeing it piled high and dry throughout the summer months. Maybe it is because I know my family will be warm come winter, no matter what. If there is one thing I have always done all my life, it’s keeping the freezer and cupboards full of food and lots of fuel for the winter. No one in our family has ever gone hungry, and they always had clean sheets to sleep on, thanks to my lovely wife. And you know. It wasn’t because we were rich neither. On another note being the kind of day it is, I am planning on writing up a few more stories for my columns in the newspapers I write for. One thing is for sure it keeps the mind active and sharp. With that, take care and stay safe. This virus isn’t getting better yet. I should mention for those that have sent me emails and letters … that yes my wife and I are going to get the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Actually we will be getting on April the 6th. I still believe in natural medicines, I am not shying away from them. Especially vitamin D 3, but I also realize, that there are a lot of good medicines out there that are made by some fantastic scientists.

What are the ingredients in the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine?

The Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine that has both synthetic, or chemically produced, components and enzymatically produced components from naturally occurring substances such as proteins. The vaccine does not contain any live virus. Its inactive ingredients include potassium chloride, monobasic potassium, phosphate, sodium chloride, dibasic sodium phosphate dihydrate, and sucrose, as well as small amounts of other ingredients.

The only Active ingredient is 30 mcg of a nucleosidemodified messenger RNA (modRNA) encoding the viral spike (S) glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2.
This is the only active ingredient in the vaccine.
The mRNA — messenger RNA technology — sends tiny snippets of genetic code to cells, telling them to build proteins. In this case, it triggers the immune system to produce protective antibodies without using actual bits of the virus. “Old-fashioned” types of vaccines, required scientists having to express it in cells or chicken eggs to get the proteins right.

There is nothing in it that I can see that would do you any harm. I like it, as it is the newer model of the way of going about things. It is the road to the future. And yes there are going to be some hurdles that have to be worked out. But right now, it is the only thing we have in our arsenal to combat this virus. Anyways we have made our decision and my instincts says it is the right thing to do. Take care my friends and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! It’s a nice looking day this morning, but it is a bit cool. The temperature waking up was sitting at -3.8 C | 25.16 F. The good part is that the sun is shinning for a change. The not so good part is after today we can expect some more rain for the remainder of the week. So knowing that I guess I will plan on doing some work in my woodworking shop. Along with writing up a few more stories. On another note we are still burning wood here being so cold. But it is going to warm up later on today. With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. Stay safe. Things aren’t looking good these days. We now here in Port Loring have two or three people that have the virus and in small towns it doesn’t take long to spread. Along with that there are a lot of tourists and folks coming into our area. Which isn’t the best right now. But … not much we can do other than staying safe doing our part. GW

Morning Chat April 25/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy, cool rainy day here for us here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 3.6 C | 38.48 F. It won’t warm up much more today. However, in saying that … things will start to get much warmer starting tomorrow and continue the trend towards summer from now on. Taking a close look at things, I suspect that our summer this year will be hazy, somewhat warmer than normal, humid and dry for most parts. Which will make for a nice summer, that is if you like the warm temperatures. I do myself other than at nights when going to bed. The good part about that is, that our bedrooms are on the north side of our home, which is shaded with lots of tall pines. Put them together with lots of windows things are pretty comfortable for us in the evening hours. On another note yesterday was sure a nice day. My wife and I did get some front porch sitting in, after lunch enjoying a nice cup of fresh perked coffee. Today being so wet and cool I am thinking I will work on a few new stories I have in my mind for my newspaper columns and magazines, that I have been writing for, for years. I like to get a few lined up, so I don’t have to be inside the house when the nice weather arrives. And we do have lots to do this year finishing up our cottage to be. It should be ready for our family members and friends mid-summer. I hope LOL. The thing is I never know what a day might bring. Some days my wife and I head off in one direction, and end up at the opposite end of things. Life is a mystery. And you know … I like it that way. With that bit of info under your hat I am off for a bowl of cereal with my lovely wife, and will then see what happens. Take care and stay safe. We are getting a lot more infections here in Ontario with this virus. Yesterday we were crowding the 4500 mark with over 20 that had died. I feel for those that have had to go through this. Especially when a lot of these deaths and infections could have been prevented. I can’t understand for the life of me, why some humans never learn, or want to learn, or don’t learn from previous happenings. GW
