George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

COVID-19 Cases Today Sep 28/2020

Health officials reported 700 new infections on Monday at noon, in Ontario. Breaking the previous high of 624 cases on April 24. Not good and still rising. I hate to say I told you so. Sheesh. And the crazy thing is … the researchers are saying that the COVID-19 second wave could hit Ontario by middle of October. LOL That is a joke! As it has started already. Makes me shake my head.

Morning Slice of life Sep 18/2020

Good Morning! Well for a change we are in the midst of some sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But in saying that, it is cool with temperatures sitting at 39F/5C. It will warm up a wee bit, but not much as the day moves forward. Tonight will be down to near freezing. It’s a sign of what’s to come for us here in the North. Highway 522 is a touch busy this morning with lots of trucks moving around the area and a few locals doing what comes naturally. LOL Yesterday my wife and I went to North Bay for some groceries and things. Picked up everything, visited our son in his apartment parking lot, dropped off one of our computers for him to repair, had lunch and a coffee alongside the highway and came on home. We usually pack a lunch and a thermos of coffee to take with us. That way we don’t have to go into any stores. Our groceries we order and pay online, and then they bring them out to our car. Pays to be cautious. Also, it should be noted that the leaves are sure turning colour-fast. I would say next weekend will be the best of the best for seeing them. It sure is nice to see the artistic values that Mother Nature has to offer every year. On another note we did see hundreds of kids heading off to Tim Hortons and places at noon while in North Bay. I think we only seen about six out of hundreds that were wearing a mask. Some groups had as many as ten to twenty young ones all close together. I am not sure where their minds are. I am afraid of what will happen in the days ahead. Some schools already are having some outbreaks. The thing is … these kids get it then pass it on to family and friends. Most of them might be able to fight it off but the older folks like parents and teachers might not be able to. Going to be interesting to say the least. On another note, today my wife and I will do some mowing around the house here, as it is still growing leaps and bounds. But first we will have a coffee together. Take care and be extra careful out there today. We are well over the 300 hundred a day mark for new cases, and that total is rising.
