Morning report January 18/2020

It’s not as cold waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the time of this post were sitting at -12 C | 10.4 F. A lot warmer than yesterday morning, that’s for sure. We didn’t have anymore snow overnight, but it looks like we are going to get some later on this morning, into tonight, and tomorrow. If we get what is predicted the amounts could rise another 8 inches or so. But we will have to wait and see how that goes. Highway 522 is bare a the moment, but that can change quickly, so if out and about later on today care should be taken. Myself I will be taking it easy today. My lovely wife is doing the wash and I will be working on my podcasts. It’s a lot of work preparing them, but it’s something I enjoy doing. On another note my wife and I went to North Bay yesterday to pick up some groceries. Met some friends from our area while there and a few that enjoy my columns. Nice to stop an chat to them. We also met our son and had lunch with him. He had set up my new cell phone and while eating he showed me how to work things. Nice phone with a good plan too. Not cheap though, but that is the price you pay for quality these days, or so they say. We are lucky our sons are so talented when it comes to these things that’s for sure. Especially in this day and age. After lunch he went back to work and we carried on with our business at hand. Groceries are up there in price this year, but there are deals if you seek them out. I have found though that veggies and fruit are terrible quality this year, some shouldn’t be on the shelves for sale. When I was selling produce from our farm, it they looked like the things that they are selling today, I would have throw them out. Fruit mouldy, lettuce disgraceful, not a good scene. The worst part is no flavour at all. And the thing is, we have all these so called laws that suppose to make the food that is being sold … better. Some of these laws are a joke and truth be known, has put many a great farmer out of business. Anyways … enough of my ranting here this morning LOL I am off for my cup of coffee and will see what mischief I can get into. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report January 17/2020

Very cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the moment are sitting at -29.3 C | -20.74 F.

It’s the coldest morning so far this year. On the good side of things the sun is making an appearance, but it won’t do much in the way of helping with the cold. It will remain cold most the day. Tonight and into tomorrow we are expecting some heavy snow to move into the area so care will have to be taken if out and driving. There are warnings up for tonight and the weekend. Highway 522 at the moment is pretty well bare but it does have some icy sections throughout. If your in need of some groceries today would be the dayto get them. Other than that not much more to say here this morning. Have a great day and dress warm if out and about.

Morning Report January 16/2020

A cloudy morning once again for us in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It is a bit cool with temperatures sitting at -8.1 C | 17.42 F. Tonight will be even colder dropping down to -22C / -7F. Last night we had another 2 -3 inches of snow. So that will give my wife and I our exercise for the day cleaning the driveway. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout. So travelling won’t be so good for awhile. The plow has been through which helps some. Tomorrow is looking better with some sunshine in the forecast, but the very cold temperatures will be upon us. Not much we can do about that other than keep the furnaces fuelled up. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. Have a great day and dress warm if heading outside. GW

Morning Report January 15/2020

Another Cloudy Morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures have warmed up quite a bit sitting at -1.1 C | 30.02 F. With the warm weather and the cold not far behind we could see another 10-15 cm / 4-8 in of snow tonight and into tomorrow. Depends on how it tracks. After today though things will cool down substantially. I might have to put an extra blanket on the bed for the weekend. But it is that time of year. Looking out, Highway 522 is mostly bare this morning, but there are the odd icy sections throughout. But I would say if your in need of some groceries this is the day to get them. Myself I will be working on my Podcasts and writing up a story for my columns. Which should keep me busy for most the day. With that … I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report January 14/2020

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The good news is we didn’t have anymore snow overnight. On the ground now would be around 6 – 8 inches. Highway 522 is partially snow covered with some icy sections throughout. Care should be taken. Today will remain mostly cloudy with a few flurries thrown in for good measure. Temperatures waking up were a touch cool sitting at -12.3 C | 9.86 F. They will warm up as the progresses. Things will begin to get really cold on Thursday. But we are into the middle of January and coming up to February which is the coldest time of the year for us here in the north. Then nearing the end of February things start to warm up a touch. Myself I am ready for spring already. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. If there is one thing I really enjoy in life, it is my coffee in the morning and around two in the afternoon. Have a good day.

Morning Report January 13/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It is also a bit cool with temperatures sitting at -13.3 C | 8.06 F. It will warm up as the day progresses. We could see a few flurries off and on throughout the day, and if lucky maybe a wee bit of sunshine. That would be nice. Highway 522 is mostly snow covered with some icy sections throughout. Care should be taken if out and about. My wife and I managed to get our driveway cleaned up from all the snow we had in the past two days. Took us most the morning. I would suspect we had around 8 to 10 inches or so all total. Great weather for the snowmobiles. Today I will be working on my Podcasts along with some other things that need to be finished up. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee, and put a stick or two of wood in the furnace. Have a great day.

Morning Report January 12/2020

At the time of this post … it is cloudy here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We could see some sunshine a bit later on in the day. It is cold outside this morning with temperatures sitting at-16.6 C | 2.12 F. Overnight we had around 4 inches of snow bringing it up to a total around 6 inches. Highway 522 is snow covered with lots of icy sections throughout. Care should be taken if out and about. For us we are staying home as there is no reason for us to be on the roads. The other thing we have to watch is the wind, as it will be picking up as the day moves forward which in turn can cause all kinds of problems with frost bite, drifting and whiteouts. But you all know that right? LOL So with that I am off to have my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat. If the sun comes out and warms up a bit, I might clean out my driveway. I kind of figure that my snowblower has had enough rest anyways. LOL Enjoy your day.

Morning Report Jan 11/2020

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. On top of that we are having some icy rain mixed in with snow. It is changing from the ice to snow at the moment. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout. Certainly not a day to be going anywhere. My suggestion stay home and relax until this mix bag of weather is over. The power has been going off and on here also so that means a tree or something is tampering with the lines somewhere. Knowing that we filled up a few pails of water just in case. Temperatures weren’t as warm as it was yesterday but still not too bad, sitting at -2.3 C | 27.86 F. It will get a lot colder through the night. But with all that we are having at the moment, tomorrow looks not so bad other than cleaning things up. We might even see a wee bit of sunshine tomorrow. It’s amazing how Nature and be so bad then change to be so good. But such is life. There are also storm warnings up for our area along with North Bay. For my wife and I we will be staying put doing a few things around the house here. With that I am off for my breakfast and will see what the day has it store other than what I am thinking. GW

Morning Report Jan 10/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But the good news is that temperatures have risen considerably. Waking up they were sitting at 5.2 C | 41.36 F. Can’t get much better than that for this time of year. We didn’t have no added snow overnight which is understandable with the temperatures being where they are. Also most of our snow has melted, and will continue to do so all day and into tonight. Highway 522 is wet but bare so travelling will be good for most of the day. But … then things could change with a real mixed bag of weather heading our way. So care should be taken if out later on. Myself I am taking my car down to my friend Kerry Booth for an oil change. Great fellow and knows his stuff. If your ever in need for some repairs you wouldn’t go wrong in seeing him. I highly recommend him. Once that is done I might even wash the car. Who needs Florida with temperatures like these Ha Ha. Oh ! and don’t forget to check out my newest Podcast just below this post. Great story. I would also like to thank all those that have commented about my Podcasts in Emails and Phone Calls, along with all the comments and likes on social media and the wide web. From all over the world folks are liking them which makes me smile. So with that bit of info under your hat, that is if you wear a hat, I am off for my morning cup of coffee. Have a great day! GW

Morning Report Jan 9/2020

Cloudy Morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We didn’t have any snow overnight. It is cold this morning though, with temperatures sitting at -21.6 C | -6.88 F. Last night was the first night this year that I kept the wood furnace going through the night. I figured I should being so cold which in turn saves the oil a bit. Highway 522 is bare with a few icy sections throughout. Travelling will deteriorate as the day moves forward as there are warnings up for a wintry mix this weekend. Ice, snow, wind are in the forecast, if the storm tracks our way, which most do. But the good news is that things will warm up considerably tomorrow. Warm enough to wash our car with temperatures reaching 4C/40F. That would be nice. So we will just have to wait and see what develops. With that I am off for a cup of coffee and will see what the day has in store for us.

Morning Report Jan 8/2020

We finally are seeing a wee bit of sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning. Temperatures are a bit cool sitting at-9.9 C | 14.18 F . We had another inch or so of snow overnight. We could see a few flurries off and on throughout the day. Highway 522 is partially snow covered with icy sections throughout. Care should be taken if out and about. On the good side of the coin I don’t need to wake up my snowblower this morning. With that bit of information upon you, I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will see what the day has in store.

Morning Report Jan 7/2020

Good morning from Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Another cloudy day here starting things off. We could see a wee bit of sunshine a bit later if we are lucky. On the good side of things we didn’t have anymore snow overnight. Well at least from my view on things as I am sure the snowmobiles would liked to have more. But … then as I always say, Nature looks after everyone in its own way. Total snow as of now on the ground would be about 4 inches. Highway 522 is bare with a few icy sections throughout. Care should be taken if out and about, as always this time of year. Yesterday my wife and I did get some exercise and cleaned out our driveway. I have to admit I enjoy being out there when it isn’t too cold. Temperatures have dropped a wee bit this morning, sitting at -9.7 C | 14.54 F. It will drop a lot more tonight, so you might want to put an extra blanket on the bed. Myself I like it cool for sleeping. The wood furnace these days is earning its keep. One thing about wood heat if your set up with the right equipment you will never be cold. We have a New-Mac wood furnace which works along side our oil furnace. Great set up and works slick. Jamie Mathews our furnace fellow here in town set things up for us a couple years go. Great fellow and knows what he is doing. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Great way to start a fellers day.

Morning Report Jan 6/2020

It’s a another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Not much sunshine expected today. Temperatures have warmed up a wee bit sitting at -1.8 C | 28.76 F. We did have around 2 – 3 inches last night and will have some flurries off and on throughout the day. Highway 522 is partially covered with a some icy sections throughout. So care should be taken if out and about. I guess I will have to clean my driveway this morning if for nothing else than just to say I did. It will also give me some exercise and fresh air. Which is needed after all the sitting at Christmas. With that I am off to put another piece of wood in the furnace and will then enjoy my morning coffee. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Jan 5/2020

Cloudy morning here again in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But it looks as if we might see some sunshine later on. Tonight we have the possibility of some snow which will make the snowmobiles happy. It all depends on which way this ridge tracks. As hard as we try we humans never really know what Nature is up to. Highway 522 is bare dry throughout which will make travelling good. For my wife and I we don’t need much these days so we will settle in and relax. On another note it has cooled down some with temperatures sitting at -8.3 C | 17.06 F. And with the winds coming in from the North it will feel just that much colder. With that. I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. If there is one pleasure that stands out each day, that is enjoying a cup of freshly ground coffee … or two. Have a good day.

Morning Report Jan 4/2020

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at -1.4 C | 29.48 F. A bit cooler than yesterday, and it will get somewhat cooler tonight. Over night we didn’t have any snow and at this time most of our snow has left us. We could see a few flurries throughout the day though, but I don’t suspect much. But in this neck of the woods you never know. Highway 522 is bare and dry so travelling will be pretty good today. On another note I will head on outside in a bit to put down some wood ashes on my driveway I saved a pail. With all this mild weather and things melting, then freezing, my driveway is an icy mess. The ashes will stop us from slipping. I don’t put them up around the house where we come inside, as my wife frowns on that a wee bit, especially when I track things inside on her clean floors Ha ha. So in them areas I put down some salt. Not that the salt today does that much good. I am not sure what they put in it these days, as it sure doesn’t do much. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace as being a touch cool I lit it up this morning. Then a cup of fresh coffee is in order, and do some chatting with my lovely wife. We are good at it. Have a good day. Oh and don’t forget to scroll down a bit here on the Blog and give a listen to the next Episode of …. Just One More Story. It’s called: The Lamp Post.

Morning Report Jan 3/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Over night temperatures remained above freezing which got rid of most of our snow. Waking up temperatures were sitting at 1.6 C | 34.88 F. It will warm up a few degrees as the day progresses. Nice weather for this time of year that’s for sure. Highway 522 is bare throughout so travelling will be good.. Other than that not much happening in and around town. Most folks are laid back through the winter months. Can’t say I blame them. So with that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. No need to put any wood in the furnace this morning too warm.

Morning Report Jan 2/2020

Good Morning. Great looking day for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Or at least so far. Temperatures were hovering around 0.1 C | 32.18 F. We should continue on with these temperatures for most of the day. Looking out the sun is coming up and to me … the sunrise is as beautiful as the sunsets. Over night we didn’t have any more snow. Highway 522 is bare for most parts throughout, which will make travelling pretty good today. Myself I am working away here in some stories and things for my columns and Podcasts. Keeps me busy, and I enjoy doing them. With that I am off for my second cup of coffee, and remember to listen to my next Podcast Episode, which comes out every Friday. Great way to finish of the week!!

Morning Report Jan 1/20 Happy New Year

Well … a brand new year for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Amazes me sometimes just how fast a year goes by. But I will say this, my wife and I accomplished a lot in 2019, and good things too. Cool, cloudy morning waking up with temperatures sitting at -2.9 C | 26.78 F. Temperatures will stay about where it is now for most the day, cooling down a touch tonight. We didn’t have any snow overnight. As of now we have around two inches on the ground and we could see a bit throughout the day. Kind of a dismal day looking out. Even the birds aren’t visiting my feeder this morning. Maybe they are hung over from last night. My wife and I just laid back and watched a show or two on TV bringing in the New Year. Nothing special. But we were together and that is all that matters. With that I am off to put some more wood in my furnace, and will then get back to some work I have to do here on my computer.

Morning Report Dec 31/19

For the last day of 2019 we are having some light flurries here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Overnight we had around 1 inch. It’s not enough that I have to wake up my snowblower though. Which is okay with me. Not that I don’t mind the exercise now and then. Highway 522 is partially covered with snow along with icy sections throughout. Might be a good day to stay home and put your feet up. That’s what we intend to do today. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -0.6 C | 30.92 F. We could see around 3 inches of snow as the day progresses, and temperatures will remain the same for most of the day. Actually the long range forecast is pretty good temperature wise. On another note my lovely wife and I had a great Christmas with our son Karl. Got lots of new things added to my computers, and the new Podcast is up and running around the globe. Can’t beat that. Actually we have had so many people listening to my Podcasts, it crashed my Blog, so Karl had to update it so it could handle the traffic. It should be okay now. That makes me smile. So with that I am off for my morning cup of perked coffee and will enjoy the last day of 2019. And along with that …. Happy New Years to you all. GW
