Morning Chat Aug 11/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Through the night, we did have some rain, but nothing to write home about. Today, though, we could see some heavy rain later on in the day. It will also remain quite warm, about the same as yesterday. So if your weak at heart, it might be a good idea to be careful working outside. I know I kind of overdid it yesterday myself, as it took me an hour and a shower to feel better after coming in for the day. I have to learn my limits and stop working so hard, now that I am getting up there in years. But it isn’t easy, as my mind says things are okay, but my body says … hold up there a minute. LOL Highway 522 is still busy which is a norm for this time of year. Things will slow down next month, as it always does when the kids go back to school. My wife and I are slowly getting everything finished that we planned for the year and then some. Makes me feel good that in spite of this virus amongst us, we didn’t let it stop us from getting these things done. Looking back, it’s hard to believe we did what we did. Today if the rain holds off I will continue taking off the old boards from our back deck. I did manage to get it half off yesterday. Once that is done, I will install all new boards, which will then be the end of our large projects for this year. Which is okay by me. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then get on with my day. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy morning here waking up in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. We could see some rain as the day progresses. Maybe even a thunderstorm thrown in for good measure. I have to admit, we have had our share of warm weather this summer so far. The good news is that we also have had a lot of rain. Highway 522 is still busy these days, and I suspect it will get even busier now that Canada has opened its borders, letting people in from all over. My opinion is we should have kept things closed up for a while longer. At least till we have more vaccinated. But hey! I am told our Governments know what’s best. LOL On another note with all this heat and rain the fishing hasn’t been the greatest this year. But I am thinking it will change in the coming days. For the better, that is. My wife and I are still very busy these days. My wife has orders lined up for her paintings, along with a lot of custom orders. Myself, I am still busy working outside on some projects that needs to be done for winter. Yesterday, my wife took some time off from her paintings and helped me fix our chimney up on the roof that needed a paint job. I then cleaned it out good, so it is now ready for the cold weather. Which I hope doesn’t come too soon. After that we cleaned out our eve troughs and when that was done with the heat yesterday … we both were pooped out. We called it a day. Today I am going to weed our veggie garden a bit and then do some work inside our shower house that we built earlier in the year. With that I am off for a bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife and will then get to work. That is, if it doesn’t rain. You just never know what can take place in one day. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat Aug 7/2021

Good Day! some have asked. Where is George he hasn’t been on the blog for awhile? Well … the thing is, both my hard-drives in my computer died for some reason. At the moment it’s at my son’s place as he is fixing it up for me. It seems that there is always something going wrong with these new modern marvels we have today. The good news is I should have it back in a few days. I have to say I miss it, as I am using my old out of date laptop, and most all my files are on my other computer, so … it is a challenge getting things done. Not much I can do other than wait it out. On another note my lovely wife and I have been really busy these past few months. We have finally finished up the cottage and new deck which makes me smile. I am glad it is done. Two years in the works to get it finished inside and out. But it is one beauty of a cottage now let me tell you. It isn’t the largest but it has everything a couple people would ever need and more. I also decided to fix our car port with some new plywood and a cover which my friend Barry gave me awhile back. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Once I finished that I decided to paint the whole woodworking shop on the outside which was in dire need. Looks good now and should last for a few years. Now I am planning on replacing our back deck as the boards are getting dangerous to walk on. I ordered the lumber yesterday so once the weather clears up a bit I will get at that. With my wife being out of commission with her bad legs it will take me a bit longer to finish. But I will get it done. After that I am going to finish up the inside of our shower house that my wife and I built earlier in the year. And then I am going to clean up my old boat and see if I can get it running so that we can get out and maybe hook on a few pickerel. I think we will deserve a rest when I get these things done up. Witt that I am off for a sandwich and a cup of fresh perked coffee that my wife is making for me, and then I think I will weed my veggie garden a bit as it is starting to look a bit shabby. I have been neglecting it somewhat this year with all that have been doing. Anyways you all have a great day. Stay safe as we aren’t out of the woods yet with this virus. GW

Morning Chat Aug 2/2021

Good Morning! It’s another great day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The sun is shinning without a cloud in the sky. The temperatures are also cooperating, sitting at 11.1 C | 51.98 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Along with all that, it looks like this nice weather will stay with us now for the next week or so. Great weather for doing just about anything. The fishing this year hasn’t been the greatest with the heat and then the rain. But folks are catching a few. Myself, I haven’t been out yet this year, actually I haven’t been out for the past two years with this virus. And with all the things my wife and I have been doing, we haven’t had the time. I am thinking, though, I might get to work on my boat and motor, see if I can get it running and cleaned up. Then maybe we will take a nice day and see if we can get out there and hook on a nice pickerel, or a large mouth bass. Yesterday I finished up our cottage and my lovely wife and I enjoyed a drink or two on the new deck we added this year, taking in what we have accomplished. I will add a few pictures at the bottom of this post. Today I am going to look at fixing the roof on our lean-to that hooks onto my woodworking shop as it is leaking, and we put our car under it all winter. So I will see how that goes. Seems that there is always something that needs doing. With that, you all take care, have a great day and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat Aug 1/2021

Good Morning! Well … here it is, the first of August. Man, is time flying by this year. It won’t be long and the trees will be turning colour. I am not looking forward to the cold weather, even if Mother Nature is giving us a taste of what’s to come at the moment, as the temperature has dropped substantially the past two days. This morning getting out of bed it was sitting at 13.8 C | 56.84 F. It will warm up somewhat as the day moves forward, and if lucky we could see some sunshine. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day with sunshine and warmer temperatures entering back into the picture. I am looking forward to it. There are still a lot of tourists coming into our area, and I suspect they will continue to do so for the rest of this month. I also see the numbers increasing here in Ontario and across Canada with this virus that is among us. The reason for that is that the virus is slowly getting to the unvaccinated. I feel for them, but … it’s their decision. The trouble is that even if they get the virus and make it through it, the repercussion’s after could last a lifetime, as this virus affects the brain too which can cause all kinds of problems down the road a way. I think, that our powers that be should be showing what is happening and can happen if they don’t get vaccinated, more than they are doing. At any rate, not much else we can do other than take extra precautions when around them. As if we aren’t wearing a mask, we could possibly pass it on to someone that isn’t vaccinated. So … the bottom line is, even if we are vaccinated, we have to keep up with what we have been doing until things get worked out. But enough of that. Yesterday I manged to dig a trench across my driveway and laid down some plastic conduit in it. I then fed the new CAT6 Outdoor Extension Cable for the high speed internet through it and into the cottage from the house. So now I just have to pick up a few things from my son Karl and the cottage will have high speed Internet for our family, friends and guests. Which will make things nice. Especially with a lot of folks that are working from home these days. Today I am going to finish putting up a nice old barn rope we have had for over fifty years, a hay rope, actually. They used it for pulling the hay fork loaded with hay up into the top of the barns years ago. My wife thought it would make for a real nice railing of sort, that wraps around our deck. Hard to explain, I will take a picture when all said and done. LOL Anyway, I am off for some French Toast this morning for a change that my lovely wife is making. Then I will get to work, that is if the rain holds off. Take care and stay safe. GW
