Morning report May 19/2020

Good Morning!! It looks like a really nice day is shaping up for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. There are a few clouds at the moment but they should clear out of our area later on this morning making way for lots of sunshine. Tomorrow will be even better. Temperatures were sitting at 9.7 C | 49.46 F and will warm up a lot more as the day progresses. Highway 522 is quiet with a few cars moving East To West these days. But I am thinking most folks are staying home. The hype you hear on the news these days and on social media usually comes from the 20% that likes to stir up things. They are the ones that try their hardest to change folks opinion on things. To me groups separate people. Which in turn causes a lot of issues. But in saying that most folks are doing what is right, staying home taking precautions and looking after themselves and family. Kind of makes me feel good knowing that. The thing we have to do is listen to our own instincts and not what others think or do. But you all know that right? LOL On another note yesterday I did manage to get my lawn cut and I also rototilled up my vegetable garden in the areas that were too wet. Worked up great. I then got busy and planted most of my veggies. I still have to plant my tomatoes which I will do in a day or so. I also cut my lawn for the first time yesterday which makes things look pretty nice around our home. The Black flies though are starting which will make things not so nice for the next few weeks. But I do have a lot of things to do in my shop and store that I want to do, which will keep me away from them blood sucking parasites. The nice thing these days is that we can now open all our windows in the house, that is if you have screens lol, and I don’t have to burn anymore wood. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will then see what mischief I can get myself into. At least that is what my wife says. LOL Have a great day, stay safe and take the preventative measures needed to stay healthy. GW

Morning report May 18/2020

Good Morning!. It’s kind of a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at 11C/51F. It will warm up some and we should see some sunshine as the day progresses. Tomorrow will be a great day sunshine and temperature wise, and actually for the next week we will be seeing and feeling summer temperatures. Which will be nice. But there is always a down side for certain things, which is that the Black Flies will be making their appearance. And they can be quite annoying to say the least. For us that lives in the area it’s a normal thing and find other things to do away from them. Yesterday I did manage to rototiller up my vegetable gardens one more time, but it is still somewhat wet in certain areas, so I will have to do it one more time in a day or so. But I did manage to plant a bunch of things in the half that was dry, so happy about that. Today I will work around outside maybe do some mowing and a bit of weed-eating around the house. Then after that will take it easy. Highway 522 is quiet so far this morning, but it is early. Once the liquor store opens up things pick up. I have to say it is the busiest store in town. LOL so with that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife and will let the day unfold around me. Take care, stay safe and most of all do what is right. GW

Morning Report May 17/2020

Good Morning! It is a nice morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is trying to show itself and temperatures aren’t all that bad sitting at 11.1 C | 51.98 F. It will warm up even more as the day moves forward. Today and tomorrow we will have a lot of cloud cover, but it should still feel pretty nice out there. Highway 522 is quiet this morning but then again it is Sunday. To me every day is the same. I actually have to check to see what day it is from time to time. On another note, yesterday I did manage to rototiller up my vegetable gardens. Half of my large one was great the other half was still too wet to break things up. So maybe today I will run it through again. Once that is done I can get to planting things that my wife and I have started here in the house. I also have been taking the new plants out of the house and kind of climatizing them every day now. Which will make it so they don’t have too much of a shock when transplanting them. I should also mention so far the black flies are holding off, but I suspect it won’t be long before they are annoying some folks. So with that I am off for my morning cup of tea and will let the day do as it wants. If it warms up a touch, we might even get some front porch sitting in. Stay Safe.

Morning Report May 16/2020

Good Morning. Well it’s not to bad of a day temperature wise, with them sitting at 9 C | 48.2 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We should see some sunshine off and on for most of the day and into tomorrow. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning with minimal travel. But it is early. Yesterday there were lots of folks out and about and a lot not from our area. Is it a good thing. Well …. time will tell. Talking about the long weekend and folks travelling, I am not sure what the big deal is. Simply put … everyone has been on a holiday now for the past two months, and along with that, a lot are even getting paid to stay home. Some I even overheard wants this to keep up, not wanting to go back to work saying this is much easier to get a pay check. Amazing how some folks minds think. Well …. what can you do? Not much other than look after yourself and do what is right. For my wife and I we are staying put working around our home where it is safe for now. Today I will be working in the vegetable gardens, rototiller them up so I can get to planting a few things. I am hoping to plant all my underground things later on today. I was hoping I could beat the Black Flies, but when out yesterday they are starting to swarm which is going to make things unpleasant for the next few weeks. Looking at that in another way the Black Flies will keep people inside you can bet on that. And after that the mosquitoes will be out in full force. Joys of summer. LOL. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea, and will take the day as it comes. Stay safe and keep your distance from others. As I keep on saying just because the powers that be say it is okay to do certain things … doesn’t make it right. Common sense is what is needed. GW

Morning Report May 15/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We did have some rain through the night and we could see some showers throughout the day today. Tonight things should clear up and tomorrow is looking like a fantastic day with some sunshine. And on top of that things will warm up. Then all next week we will be into some summer weather. Highway 522 is slow this morning traffic wise which is a good thing. It isn’t as cold this morning so I don’t have to light the wood furnace and hoping I won’t need to be doing that anymore until winter. Today I will be working on some orders in my shop and after that we will see. With that take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 14/2020

Good Morning. This morning we are among clouds here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Today and tomorrow we can expect some showers. But on the good side of things the rain will usher in some warmer temperatures. Which is okay with me as I am ready for some warm weather. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning so far and not to much traffic is going east or west. Yesterday it picked up some with cars I haven’t seen before. So a few are venturing away from home. But then again some have cottages in our area which is where they are going I suspect. And I don’t really see anything wrong with that as long as they stay in their cottage for a couple weeks and bring in what they will be needing for food and things. But in saying that I still don’t think it is a good idea of us opening up things this soon. But such is that. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and a bite to eat and will let the day unfold around me. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 13/2020

Hi Folks. Well … to start things off we are seeing lots of sunshine this morning here in Port Loring Ontario Canada, and the good news is it will remain with us for most the day. Tonight however we will see a few clouds entering into the picture, along with some showers tomorrow. But as much as I don’t like the rain, it will bring in the warm weather that we are all looking for. And next week will be the best yet this year for warm temperatures. I have to tell you … I am looking forward to it. Saturday might be a nice day too if things goes to plan. We will see. The good thing is the snow has left us and hopefully we won’t see anymore until winter. I hate to even mention that word winter. On another note our air quality here in Port Loring is Excellent today and will remain that way for most of the week. With so many business’s not open and cars off the highways the pollution is down to almost nil in certain areas. Which will help immensely with this virus that is going around today. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and traffic is slow. Which it should be. The grass is greening up nicely and won’t be long before it has to be cut. The dandelions our out, so fresh dandelion tea is on the menu for later on today for my lovely wife and me. There is nothing that can spur your immune system more than Dandelions. Which again is needed with what is going on in the world today. Amazes me most folks don’t take advantage of what is right outside the front door in a lot of cases. It is still quite cool this morning with temperatures sitting at 1.8 C | 35.24 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. I did start the wood furnace once again, but thinking I might have to let it burn out once things warm up a bit. I should mention that we did have a touch of frost this morning and there was ice on the bird bath. So that shows how cold it is outside. So with that I am off for my morning cup of tea and will let the day unfold around me. I have to finish up a new Podcast for Friday, which I will post as I always do. Take care, do what is right to keep yourself safe and others. GW

Morning Report May 12/2020

Good morning!. Not too bad of a morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning and should remain with us for most the day. But it will also be on the cool side. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 0 C | 32 F. It will warm up somewhat as the day progresses. It will however remain cool until the weekend and then after that things should warm up to where we can get outside and work in the gardens and things. That will be nice for sure. With the Ozone being fixed (Temporarily) we will have more protection this year. I am betting that the sunshine will help us all immensely. That is until things goes back to normal and we humans mess things up again. But such is life. Today I will be working on another Podcast I have in mind … which should keep me busy for most of the day. On another note it is green outside now and the trees are all starting to show some buds which will turn to leaves within a week or so. Nice to see. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and will let the day unfold around me. Stay safe and keep your distance from others. As I say … just because they say it is safe to open things up once again is only the views of certain people. It doesn’t make it right. I am thinking we will pay dearly for it. But … live and learn is what it seems to be all about. There is an easy way, and a hard way. Again take care of yourselves. GW

Morning report May 11/2020

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It’s not too warm neither with temperatures sitting at -0.7 C | 30.74 F. I have been lighting my wood furnace now every morning for the past week to take the dampness and coolness out of the house. Have to say it feels good too. We will see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. Temperatures though will remain cool until we near the weekend and that is when it will feel more like spring. Most of our snow has left us now which is okay by me. The grass is greening up a lot, and if this keeps up we will have to mow it near the weekend. I enjoy the smells it gives off after the first cut. That tells me spring is here. Highway 522 is bare and dry so there should be no problem with travelling for those in need. Myself I am going to take it easy, I didn’t sleep to good last night. Might work on another Podcast to take my mind off things. With that I am off for a bite to eat and will let the day unfold around me. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 10/2020

Good Morning. Well we are having some sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada at the moment. It is a touch cool though with temperatures sitting at 0.2 C | 32.36 F. It will warm up some as the day moves forward. But we do still have some snow laying around yet which I suspect will pretty well be all gone by tonight. That is … if the sun stays with us. Highway 522 is bare and dry which is nice. Not to much traffic which is good. But then again it is Sunday. The grass is greening up nicely though and in some areas close to the house I might have to cut it a bit. We have a little cove on one side of our house out of the wind and things. Great place to sit as it is always warm there and that is where the grass grows this time of year. It’s nice sitting out there in the early morning hours with a hot cup of fresh perked coffee. Today I will work away on another Podcast for Friday, which should take most of the day. Keeps my mind busy and makes me feel like I did something productive. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will let the day unfold around me. Take care, stay home and be safe. GW

Morning report May 9/2020

Starting things off it is a cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at -3.3 C | 26.06 F. It will warm up a we bit as the day progresses. The good part is we might see some sunshine as the day moves forward. Which will make things feel just that much better. But I am thinking it will be cloudy off and on for a good portion of our day. Overnight things will clear and we should see a lot more sunshine tomorrow. Time will tell. Nature has her own way of doing things. Truth be told, she is doing what needs to be done right now without to much interference from us humans, which I believe is a good thing. We didn’t have anymore snow overnight, but there is still around two or so inches on the ground. Once things warm up some in a few days it will be gone. I would say these cool temperatures will stay with us until the middle of this week, and then I believe it is all uphill from there. But in the transition we will see some more rain. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling pretty good if you have to go someplace. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife, and then will get into another Podcast I have in mind. Take care, stay away from people and remember …. just because they are opening up stores and things doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. I personally believe it is the wrong thing to be doing at this time. If anything we should be waiting another month, but what it boils down to in my eyes … it’s all about money. Once again … take care.

Morning Report May 8/2020

Good Morning. Well waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada it is looking more like the start of winter instead of spring. Looking out I would say we had close to 6 – 8 inches of snow overnight. And it is still snowing quite hard as I am writing this post. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout. I took some pictures of the event and will add them to the end of this post. Just to show you what Mother Nature can do coming up to the 24 of May. You just never know. I have to admit it does look really nice. But I would sooner see some nice green grass truth be told Ha Ha. Will I clean out my driveway? Nope … not at this time of year. I believe Nature put it there she can take it away too. And we aren’t going anywhere anyways as we did go to North Bay yesterday to pick up our groceries. Kind of glad we did go when we did with what is going on this morning weather wise. Yesterday though was a perfect day for a drive. Sun was shinning, not to warm, just a perfect day all way round. The stores were quite busy too, but we did notice most folks were lined up keeping their distance at some grocery stores. I also noticed a lot more were wearing masks which I believe is a great thing and I also believe everyone should be wearing one when out and about. Then there were those that don’t give a dam about anything. Standing close together, yacking away and no mask. Amazes me that so many doesn’t believe that this is a serious situation we are in right now. This opening up of some stores right now, I am not sure is a great idea. At least not so soon. I kind of think we are going to pay for it in a few weeks with more folks dying and getting sick. The reason the curve is slowing down somewhat, is because of what we are doing. It might work if folks and business’s do what they are suppose to be doing. Time will tell. On another note I don’t believe we should keep on handing out money like we are doing now. If we keep on doing this we are going to be in some serious trouble down the road a ways, more so than we are having now. I even know some that are enjoying being off work and don’t want to go back saying … as long as the government keeps paying me I am happy to stay home an never go back to work ha ha. But then again it takes all kinds. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and …. well, just take things easy, not much else a person can do today on this snowy day. Take care and be safe. Morning Report May 7/2020

Not too bad of a day so far starting things off. The sun is shinning, but we will see some clouds later on in the day. Tonight temperatures will drop and we could see an inch or so of snow by morning. Crazy weather. Highway 522 is bare and dry so far this morning and should stay that way for most the day. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 2.2 C | 35.96 F at the time of this post and will warm up as the day moves forward. The grass is greening up nicely, more each day that passes. Won’t be long and we will be mowing it once again. Which is okay with me as long as the mowers runs like they are suppose too. Time will tell in that department. On another note, yesterday my lovely wife and I did manage to get the last of our firewood piled in where it can dry throughout the summer months. Amazing that two old timers like us were able to move 15 cords in a day and a half. Happy about that. We had two really nice days to get it put away though, which made things nice. The sunshine stayed with us and temperatures weren’t too warm, and the best part was … we beat the Black Flies this year. Them blood sucking parasites can sure make a nice day not so good, if your outside in our area. Today my wife and I will take things a bit easy, rest up a bit. But I have to admit all that work got our bodies back in shape for summer. You could say it took all the kinks out of them. So with that I am off for my morning cup of tea and will let the day do as it wants. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 6/2020

Good Morning. And it is a good morning too, with lots of sunshine here Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sunshine should stay with us for most the day with a few clouds entering into the picture later on this afternoon. Tomorrow we could see a light shower or a flurry or two off an on throughout the day, with cooler temperatures. Then on Friday we could see an inch or so of snow. So … it looks like spring hasn’t gotten a full hold on us yet. But after that things are looking good. Not much we can do about it. The reason for these temperatures and fluctuation’s with our weather is that the earth is going back to what it suppose to be. In other words it is healing itself after years of abuse from us humans. I never thought I would see it happen in my life time, but here it is … all caused by a tiny bug. Kind of amazing to say the least. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and should remain that way most the day. There is some traffic moving east and west these days. Hoping they are doing what they are suppose to be doing. But in saying that, my wife and I are, and technically if we keep on doing that we will be okay. On another note, our firewood came yesterday around 15 cords. My wife and I managed to pile almost half of it. I have to admit it is great weather for doing that. Today it will be much the same as yesterday, so if things goes to plan we should finish it up today, which will be nice as it then can dry all summer and be ready for next winter. I have always made sure throughout my life that the cupboards were full of food and enough fuel or firewood to keep us warm throughout the winter months. Do that and you are pretty well set for anything. Gives me a good feeling inside. Also we don’t have to depend on anyone else, which is the way it should be. With that … I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife, and then I will start up my old riding mower which I use to pull our trailer for piling the wood. It’s an oldie but a goody. Something like me. Ha Ha. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 5/2020

Good Morning! We are having some sunshine this morning to start things off. But in saying that temperatures are quite cool sitting at -1.6 C | 29.12 F at the time of this post. Highway 522 is bare and dry which will make it nice for those that have to go someplace. It will warm up as the day moves forward and we should see lots of sunshine for most of the day and into tomorrow. The grass is greening up nicely so that is nice to see instead of the white for a change. Today we have our firewood being delivered so that will be the course of our day. Not that we will get it piled today but it’s nice to have sitting in our driveway, knowing it will be there for next winters heat. Then if things goes to plan we will start to pile it tomorrow. With that I am off for a bite to eat with my lovely wife and will let the day unfold around me. Have a great day and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 4/2020

Good Morning. Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should see some sunshine a bit later on in the morning. If we are lucky. It is kind of cool though with temperatures at the time of this post sitting at -0.2 C | 31.64 F. With temperatures being as they are I decided to light the wood furnace once again, which will save some oil. Oil though should be down in price I would think with the way gas is and things. The last time I filled it a month ago, there wasn’t any big savings to speak of. I am thinking these companies are buying it cheap and selling it at normal prices, same as a few gas stations. Might pay for a feller to price around and see what others are charging for furnace oil and gas these days. But in reality, it’s nothing new, as they have most of the public believing what they are telling them to be true, and no one questions things these days. Maybe they will now after this virus is out of the way. Which it will be given time. Best thing we can do as I keep on saying is to distance yourself from those you don’t know, and most you do know, if your not living with them that is. On another note highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, and traffic is on the quiet side. Which is a good thing. Seems to pick up as the day progresses with new folks entering into the picture every day. With that … I am off to check on my furnace to see if it needs another log or two, and will let the day unfold around my lovely wife and I. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report May 3/2020

Good Morning. Well the good news is that we are having some sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures though at the time of this post were sitting at 8.4 C | 47.12 F. Not the warmest temperatures, but by far not the coldest neither. I am thinking it will remain cool for the next two weeks, before it starts to warm up to where it will be really nice to sit outside, or go fishing. The reason for this years coolness is that the world is coming back to normal, with everyone staying home and not polluting the air, along with the stopping of planes by the thousands moving things around in our atmosphere. And the good news is as I predicted two months ago, that the ozone hole above us has now closed completely, which in turn protects us humans from the not so good radiation from the sun. Which in turn allows us to be out in the sunshine more taking in the much needed vitamin D 3, which will help us immensely with this virus going around. The virus is strong, but our bodies are stronger when given what it needs to stay healthy. Put some help with a new vaccine in place, and we should make out okay. We need both. But it will take awhile. Myself, if it wasn’t for this virus I would like for things to stay as it is for awhile, so that the earth can heal from the abuse us humans has shown it over the past fifty or so years. I also hope that we have learned a lesson, not just about the virus … but about treating our earth as it should be treated. Have people learned a lesson? As much as I would like to say … yep they have, I have serious doubts. But one can only hope. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and I think the rain has left us for a few weeks, at least in any great amounts. Now we will see how these black flies pan out, as I am thinking they are lurking in the wings. It should be interesting to see how bad they are this year. Who knows … maybe there will be help there too as there are a lot more birds arriving daily, around my home here, and they eat a great amount of them blood sucking parasites. HA HA. So with that you all take care, have a great day, make it a great day, and distance yourself from people you don’t know and even the ones you do know. It’s the only defence we have, other than sanitary measures which you all should know by now. GW

Morning Report May 2/2020

Good Morning. Well … it was sunny waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada but now clouds have moved into our area. They will remain with us for most the day and into tonight. Tomorrow things should clear up with sunshine returning. Temperatures waking up were a touch cool sitting at 7 C | 44.6 F, but it will warm up later on this morning. We could see a few showers too throughout the day. I hope not. Highway 522 is bare and dry so far and quiet. Yesterday it picked up some with cars coming into our area from all over. It will be interesting to see what happens when the real warm weather enters into the picture. On another note the Black Flies haven’t been around yet, but I suspect they will show themselves shortly. It seems as soon as I have my gardens to plant and firewood to be piled … they are out in full force. I am hoping I might be ahead of them this year. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and will let the day do as it wants. Not that I could do anything about it anyways. Have a great day and stay safe when around others. GW

Morning Report May 1/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at 3.9 C | 39.02 F. It will warm up a lot as the day progresses. We should see some sunshine, a bit later on this morning once the clouds clear out of our area. If things goes to plan my wife and I should get to do some front porch sitting, soaking up some of that sunshine. Highway 522 is quiet this morning, but it is only 7:30 AM. It will pick up some later on. On another note the grass is greening up nicely. If this keeps up we will be mowing it in a week or so. With the firewood we have to pile, grass cutting and gardens to plant, we will be quite busy. Which is okay by me as it keeps our minds on good things. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will let the day unfold around us. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Report April 30/2020

Good morning. It’s another rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It rained most of the day yesterday, last night and will continue on for most of the day today. In saying that … after today things will change around for the better, with sunshine staying with us for the next few weeks. Which is what we are in need of to dry things out. Highway 522 is quiet as normal this time of day, but it seems to be picking up with folks from other places coming into our area. I can’t rightly say I blame them, but in the same sentence I would hope if they do come into our area they bring what they need with them, then stay at their cottage for a couple weeks not going anywhere. Shouldn’t be a big deal if they did that. But we will see what happens. The busiest store in town is the liquor store, it seems to be the trend these days. Ha Ha. Hear again can’t say I really blame folks. What ever it takes to overcome this mess we are in the better it is. On another note, I will be busy for the next few days as my firewood is coming either tomorrow or the next day. That should keep my lovely wife and I busy for the next week piling it under the lean-to. It’s nice to have on hand in case what we are going through right now takes a turn for the worse. Which … I don’t think it will. It will just take time for a vaccine to be made. You would think with all this modern technology, money and things in the world today it would be done quite quickly. That to me shows that we still have a lot to learn in the disease department. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and will let the day unfold around us. Take care and stay safe. GW
