Port Loring Information July 11/2016

Good Morning: Managed to get my lawn mowed yesterday or what needed it. Still a lot of dry areas that I stay off of being so dry. In the afternoon I headed on out to do some fishing once again with my buddy Barry.  Hot day out there on the water but had a great time.  Being so bright and hot the fish weren’t bitting that much.  We did hook on a few nice ones that got away from us.  Supper made up of one nice Bass.  Not complaining mind ya as any day out on the water is a good day.  Enjoy your day. Weather Forecast: Really nice day shaping up. Plenty of sunshine with warm temperatures. Tomorrow though will be very warm.

Rain Accumulations:  No rain overnight.

Bug Report: Not much activity these days which is a good thing. Few mosquitoes.

Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:00 AM – 9:30 AM. Then again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 9:00PM I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few. Remember don’t be in a hurry, give the fish a chance to find your bait, you just never know, there could be a big one just making up his mind.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. Great day to go anywhere.

Port Loring Information For July 10/2016

Good Morning: Looking like a nice day here in Port Loring Ontario. Had some more rain overnight and yesterday which was just what we needed. Gardens grew so much if transplanted I would have enough for another. Corn sure picked up and pumpkins are running and out in bloom along with the Zucchini. Should be eating the Zucchini this week sometime. Today I will do some work on my fishing boat. My sons bought me a fish finder so going to see if I can get it to working and installed in a good location. My boat is a Vintage Feather Craft. Aluminum with sleek features. One of a kind for this area brought over from the USA many years ago. Out boating looking behind it leaves a spread of water like no other.  After that might just do some front porch sittin’ and enjoy a cool drink or two. One has to take advantage of this nice weather. With that you all have a great day. GW

Weather Forecast: Fairly fine, possible showers early then should see some sunshine and warmer temperatures.

Rain Accumulations:  We had almost 10mm of rain over-night.

Bug Report: Not much activity these days which is a good thing. Few mosquitoes.

Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Then again a bit later from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry just waiting for folks to drive on it. Great day for going just about anywhere. One good thing about Sunday Shopping being brought upon us, gives folks way out in the sticks lots of time to pick up supplies. Not that any other day is any different as each day has its own rewards. Drive safe.

Information For Port Loring July 9/2016

Good Morning: Finally here in Port Loring we are getting some much-needed rain. Trees and gardens are looking good. Yesterday late in the day my friend Barry and I went out fishing for the first time this year.  Boat run good after its winter nap and had a great time.  We did hook on a few pike but threw them back as they were a touch small.  A bit later we both hooked onto a nice pickerel so wife and I will have a nice supper tonight.  No other fish here in the north tastes like pickerel.  I do like large mouth bass though, they are also quite tasty.. Talking about bass I was casting out from the boat in a weed bed and while bringing in my line I felt a few little nibbles, which I figured was a small fish of some kind.  I set the hook and told Barry that I got one but a small one. Thing I didn’t take into consideration was that it could be a big one, just heading in the same direction as I was. That is what happened.  A few feet from the boat up it went out of the water, shook the hook out of its mouth and gone. Really nice large mouth bass. Lesson to be learned if you get my meaning. Have a great day.

Words Of Wisdom: Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

Weather Forecast: Another cloudy day with a few showers possible. Not as warm or as humid today.

Rain Accumulations:  We had 5mm of rain overnight.

Bug Report: Not much activity these days which is a good thing. Few mosquitoes.

Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 10:20 AM – 12:20 PM. Then again a bit later from 4:18 PM – 7:18 PM I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few. Remember always keep two fishing poles with you and ready to use. That way if you get hooked up on the bottom and the fish are bitting you can keep on catching them.  Also you won’t scare that big one away while trying to free your hung up line. Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is a bit wet this morning but great weather for traveling.

Port Loring Information July 9/2016

Good Morning:  Cloudy day here in Port Loring and looks like it will remain that way for most of the day.  But on the bright side of things it is still nice and warm along with the bugs not being to bad. Fishing I hear hasn’t been the best for the past couple days but that is to be expected with the rain we had.  It will get better in the coming days.  Today I will thin out my tomato plants as they got way to much foliage on them at this time.  Trick of it is to remove the suckers, in doing so the tomatoes will get larger.  Yesterday we cut all our scapes from the garlic.  Wife chopped them up and put them in freezer bags for winter.  Great in soups, mixed in with meat or ground up for dips.  Enjoy your day.

Words Of Wisdom: If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there’d be a shortage of fishing poles.

Weather Forecast: Cloudy humid day and we could see a shower or two.

Rain Accumulations:  No rain over night worth mentioning.

Bug Report: Not much activity these days which is a good thing. Few mosquitoes.

Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:18 AM – 11:18 AM.  Then again a bit later from 3:33 PM – 6:33 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Remember, with live bait attach the hook so the bait will have natural movements.  With artificial lures, jig or pop the bait and bring your bait in at different speeds and angles. Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Watch for the deer and turtles crossing the highway.  Had to go around five turtles heading off to North Bay a couple of days ago.  They aren’t the speediest of critters.

Port Loring Information July 7/2016

Good Morning: I have to say this rain we have had in the past few days sure made my vegetable garden get to growing. Tomatoes love hot weather and as long as one keeps them watered in the dry times, they will be rewarded down the road aways. This morning I have some signs to cut out as the wife has some orders to fill. Then will get to working on my Native American Flutes. In between doing that a bit of fishing is in order. Haven’t been out this year yet, as every-time my old fishing buddy Barry dropped around to see if I wanted to go something went wrong. But I am ready now ha ha. One has to take advantage of the nice days here in the north. I did pick up a few nice lures this spring so can’t wait to put them to work. Nothing nicer than to have a nice pickerel or large mouth bass sitting on a plate come supper time. I enjoy the fish for sure but I also enjoy being out there with my friends. Have a great day. GW

Words Of Wisdom: A lot of folks go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Weather Forecast: Today we will see a mixture of clouds and sunshine. Quite cloudy and damp waking up here this morning.

Rain Accumulations:  We had 14mm of rain overnight. Nice soaking rain too which makes it just that much better.

Bug Report: For most parts things are good in the insect department but with this rain the mosquitoes could start to annoy folks in certain areas.

Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:14 AM – 10:14 AM. Then again a bit later from 2:46 PM – 5:46 PM. I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few. Remember this as it was told to me many years ago. Fish are on three levels of most rivers or lakes. Some near the surface, some half way and some near the bottom. Trick is to try the different levels till you find them. Let me know how you do. Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and slick this morning with the rain we had through the night. After a dry spell the rain the roads can be quite slick. Care should be taken if out and about.

Port Loring Information July 6/2016

Good Morning:  Well might have a bit of rain today if things go to plan.  But with nature one never knows.  Myself I will be fixing up some loose boards on my decks don’t need for my old rocking chair to fall through while out there enjoying the day. Bit of maintenance here and there can save a lot of grief.  Won’t be long and my tomatoes will be ready to eat.  Got my eye on a couple now that are just turning a touch red.  Nothing like tomato sandwiches right out of the garden. Actually I am quite fond of tomato and cucumber sandwiches. With that enjoy your day and stay safe.

Words Of Wisdom: Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.

Weather Forecast: Cloudy and warm with a shower or thunderstorm.

Rain Accumulations:  No Rain Overnight.

Bug Report: Few mosquitoes out there annoying folks along with a few deer-flies.

Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:09 AM – 9:09 AM. Then again a bit later from 1:56 PM – 4:56 PM. I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry.  There are a few deer moving across here and there so care should be taken. Don’t need anyone hitting one.

Good Morning: Great Looking Sunday here in Port Loring Ontario. Sun is shinning and humidity is low. Vegetable garden has grown leaps and bounds the past few days with the rain we have had. Good Morning:  We did have a wee bit of rain a day or so ago but nothing that would wet the dust. Plants in the gardens need watering almost every day now. But in-spite of the dry conditions things are growing quite well. Tomatoes are starting to show themselves and pumpkins are getting higher along with the corn. We are eating fresh lettuce every day mixed with garlic scapes. Pretty tasty let me tell ya. Today will take things easy a bit, messed up my back some. Amazing how one can work hard for two or three weeks then just bend over to take the mats out of the car to wash and bang!! out goes the back. So a bit of rest is in order till things settle down. With that enjoy your day and more so enjoy the sunshine. Lots of sun, is the key to good health.

Good Morning:  Nice weather is upon us here in Port Loring Ontario. Gardens are growing leaps and bounds these days. Wife and I are eating fresh lettuce and garlic scapes every dayGarlic scapes are the flower bud of the garlic plant. The bud is removed in late June to encourage the bulbs to thicken up.  Scapes make a fabulous addition to a flower bouquet, and they are delicious to eat!  Scapes taste just like garlic. They can be used in exactly the same way as garlic in any recipe.  My wife grinds them up, mixes them with a cream-cheese for dipping veggies, or spread on a cracker is great also.  Delicious let me tell you.  Some sell the scapes for more than the garlic itself. If too many scapes you can wrap up in wax paper and freeze for later use.  Have a great day.

Good Morning:  Hope all had a great Fathers Day Weekend. My wife and I had a busy weekend with our small store. Folks from all over stopped by purchasing flutes, my lovely wife’s paintings and our books. Shaping up to be a great summer. On another note the vegetable garden is doing real well this year in spite of the heat we been having. I managed to get it hoed up along with hilling the tomatoes, potatoes and celery. Main thing in this heat is water. Enjoy Your Day!

Words Of Wisdom: Everyone who is successful must have dreamed of something.

Weather Forecast: Could see a thunderstorm in certain areas or a shower. Which we need as things are pretty dry. We will also see some sunshine too. It will also remain quite warm today but cooler than the past few days. Tomorrow things will start to cool down even more.

Rain Accumulations:  No Rain Overnight.

Bug Report: Most of the black flies for this year has left us. Mosquitoes are now annoying folks in the evening hours, in buildings or near the water, with a few horse and deer flies through the day.
