George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

What’s Happening On March 1/2022

Hi Folks. It’s another cloudy, snowy day here in Northern Ontario. We did have an inch or so of new snow overnight, and I suspect we will have another inch or so throughout the day. Highway 522 is snow covered. However, the plow just went past our home. Travelling won’t be the greatest today.

The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -9.1 C | 15.62 F. Not too bad, and it will warm up a bit more as the day moves forward.

On another note, we have been having a lot of finches at our bird feeder the past few days. They come and go and are nice to see, other than the larger birds that remain all winter.

So with that bit of information out of the way, I am off to feed the birds and put some wood in our furnace. Have a great day. March 1st, man, time sure flies by these days. GW

For a change, we are seeing some sunshine here in Northern Ontario. It was so bright it woke me up. Not complaining mind ya. But on another note it is cold out this morning with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at -23.6 C | -10.48 F. The good news is we only have 3 more days of cold weather before it starts to warm up above the freezing mark. Which will make it nice so that we can get rid of some of this ice. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, but there are a few icy sections throughout. Travelling should be pretty good today if you have to go to the big city for groceries and things.

On another note, my wife and I worked away here in the house on a few things that needed attention, and today we will do the same. Once completed, I will get back to my writing. I almost have enough stories lined up for my newspaper columns for summer.

Other than that, not much else happening in and around our sleepy little town. And now I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast that my lovely wife is preparing for me, and will then get to work. Have a great day.

What’s Happening On February 27/2022

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy, snowy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. These specialists called for snow with high winds overnight, but it didn’t amount to anything. Today however could be a different story. We will have to see as the day moves forward. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -3.6 C | 25.52 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is right now. Highway 522 is bare at the moment, with a few icy sections throughout.

On another note, my wife and I went to town yesterday to pick up a few things in the grocery department. Other than a bit of wind, we had a great trip there and back. It’s good to get away now and then. But in saying that, it is getting expensive with the price of gas these days. Yesterday we paid 1.65 a litre, and they say if things keep going as they are now we could reach the 2.00 mark. I am thinking it is going to make it real hard for folks to travel this summer. But we will see. If people stop travelling, these huge corporations will eventually have to drop their price. They hate to lose money.

Another thing is all this environmental stuff. Going green is fine, but if you don’t have the resources to back things up, what have you got? More hardships, that’s what.

It’s fine for these folks to say we have to go green, we have to do that, we have to do this … but when all said and done nothing really gets done. Other than a whole mess of idle chatter, along with taking more money out of the working man’s pocket. And with the price of food and things right now, it isn’t looking all that good in that department neither. A lot of folks are hurting real bad with business’s closing down and folks out of work. And another thing is, Canada has shown its true colours over the past two years, and other countries are now seeing what we are really about. Which isn’t all that good.

Anyway, enough of all that. One has to do what they have to do and get on with their life. There is no way in fighting these so-called Powers that Be. They have had their way for centuries, and I don’t suspect things will change no matter what we do.

With that, I am off for a boiled egg with a couple slices of bacon that my lovely wife is preparing for me. Have a great day.

Starting things off, we are having a wee bit of sunshine this morning. We are also having some real light flurries. We did have another inch of snow overnight. Highway 522 is partially bare, which will make travelling pretty good. But care should be taken. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -18.2 C | -0.76 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward.

On another note, I was kept busy yesterday working on some new added features to my computer. Slowly getting things set up for making better Podcasts and things. My son Karl has been working away behind the scenes, bringing all my wants together. Ha Ha. I wouldn’t have what I have … if it wasn’t for him, as he knows just about everything there is to know about computers, electronics and things like that. He also knows how to fix things, which is a good thing, as old Dad can sure mess things up now and then. Ha Ha.

So with that I am off for a piece of toast that my lovely wife is preparing for me, and will then see what the day has in store. Have a great day! GW
