George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

What’s happening? January 13/2022

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring Ontario. We did have around an inch of light snow through the night. Nothing to stop you from going anywhere if you have to go anywhere .I did see a few snowmobiles out and about yesterday, making their way through the trails behind my house. Nice to see. My wife and I are staying put these days with the way this new virus is spreading. Eventually I am sure everyone will get it, but staying put will help the hospitals, doctors and nurses a bit, which is what is needed at the moment. I think once it reaches it peak, meaning almost everyone has caught it … it then will drop as fast as it started. Highway 522 has a few, snow covered areas along with some icy sections throughout. Tonight things will become darn cold again, and stay that way for the next three days. After that, things should moderate. Yesterday I managed to write up a couple stories for my columns and today will probably do the same. With that, I am off for a bagel this morning with my lovely wife. Take care and stay safe.

Entertainment

If asked, I would say the best TV Series out there at the moment, is called Yellowstone. Every show keeps you wanting more. Another would be The Ranch. I enjoyed it too. But forewarned, the actors use a few choice words. Ha Ha.

What’s happening? January 12/2022

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. We did have a touch of snow overnight, about one inch. Not enough to bring out my old snow blower, though. Which is fine by me. Highway 522 is partially snow covered, with some icy sections throughout. The temperature waking up was sitting at -4.6 C | 23.72 F. A lot warmer than yesterday and the day before. It is warmer, but that is about to change with colder temperatures will be moving in by tomorrow night. The coldest nights will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We are having some light snow at the moment, but I don’t suspect it will amount to much. On another note, I just put some more wood in my shop stove. It’s nice and toasty in there. So if the urge hits to work on a few projects I have lined up, I will be all set. But right now, I don’t have any urges, Ha Ha. Today I will be working on another podcast that I have in mind along with a story for my newspaper columns. I haven’t seen many snow mobiles yet this year, but with this cold weather I suspect they will be out and about sooner than later. I enjoy seeing them, makes me feel good knowing that some are enjoying life a bit. With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe, this damn virus is sure getting out of hand these days. You know … I am getting a wee bit tired of it. Ha Ha.
