George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. Good Morning: Cool Tuesday morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -4.3 C | 24.26 F.

Forecast For Today: Rather unsettled clearing later.  Will remain cold for the next few days then the trend will lean towards some warmer weather.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night.

Highway Report:   Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout.  Travelling should be fine to go pretty well anywhere.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:30 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then once again from 11:00 AM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Not to much happening in and around our small community these days.  We did make a trip into North Bay yesterday if for nothing more than to get out of the house and take in the scenery.  Roads were great and along the highway the deer were out in abundance.  Couldn’t begin to count how many we seen.  Care should be taken if driving around dusk as they do venture onto the road without giving the cars or trucks a second thought.  Stores in North Bay were doing a brisk business.  We had to wait in the check out lane for a spell in every store we shopped in.  Had a great day.  Tea time here, English Breakfast this morning all on its own.  Enjoy your day and stay safe.  You can reach me at [email protected]

What’s What For Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Hope everyone is well on this fine Saturday Morning!  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 2.6 C | 36.68 F.  Not to bad.

Forecast For Today.  There is a Freezing rain warning in effect for: Port Loring – North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa – West Nipissing & French River.  So far nothing has occurred here in Port Loring.  But that could change at any moment.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry so far, but if the freezing rain begins travelling won’t be good.  Kind of just have to watch things and see how they pan out. One of those days.

Snow Report:  No accumulations over night. Melting rate is around 4 inches a day.

Ice Fishing Report:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the be best times to be out there will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Great day for catching a few. Being this time of year you should be keeping an eye on the thickness of the ice before venturing out on it. In some places it doesn’t look like it is melting but it is.

Around Town:  Quiet day here hardly a car moving up and down the highway.  Being so cloudy along with the time change folks are sleeping in a touch.  On another note, tea time here.  Just regular English Breakfast this morning. Good Morning: Well cool morning waking with temperatures sitting at -1.8 C | 28.76 F.

Forecast For Today:  Occasional snow, worsening with possibly some freezing rain continuing on into tonight and tomorrow. Couple not so good looking days entering into the picture.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 at this time is bare and dry.  Could change later on this afternoon.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Should be a good day.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Few cars moving up and down the highway this morning.  Good to see folks out and about for a change.  Warm weather and sunshine has a way of bringing out the best in people.  For most any-ways.

Tea time here.  Rose petals are steeping as I type.

Recipe;

2 tbs of rose petals
1 cup of water
Drop petals in hot water and let steep for 10 minutes
Strain and drink.
Organic Sweetener can be added for taste. (No White Sugar) Why? Depletes all the goodness that is in the petals.

This tea helps with numerous health related problems. It also helps with restoring the skin back to what it was in your teens.   On top of that it tastes good too.  What could be better.  Remember though never use the petals from roses that have been sprayed with chemicals of any kind.  Most store bought roses and garden roses have been sprayed with something.  Do not use.   I only recommend wild roses in good locations. Good Morning: Well another great day is before us.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -8.6 C | 16.52 F.

Forecast For Today: Fine weather, with lots of sunshine. Clouds will move in later with a touch of snow or light rain or freezing rain overnight and into tomorrow.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout.  Travelling will be good today.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night or is any expected today.  We are losing around 6 inches a day with the warm temperatures.

Ice Fishing Times;  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.   Enjoy it while you can the ice is melting quite rapidly.

Around Town:  Few folks starting to show themselves.   Thinking folks are into cabin fever mode.  Ready for spring, warm weather and sunshine.  Can’t say I blame them neither.  I actually can see a bit of the stone in my driveway this morning.  Tea time here.  Think I will have a cup made from Calendula Pedals.  This is how you make it.  Put 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried flowers into  1 cup  of hot water and let set for 10 minutes.  Strain and drink. Good Morning.  Nice looking day here this morning.  Temperatures are still quite warm sitting at 1.6 C | 34.88 F.

Forecast For Today: Sunny with some clouds with a chance of a flurry or shower later on.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Snow Report:  No accumulations over night.  I would say as of now we are loosing around 3 – 5 inches a day.  It is melting quite quickly with these warm temperatures.  OK by me as I am ready for some front porch sittin’.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare throughout.  Should be no problem with travelling today.

Around Town:  Quiet is the norm for this time of year.  I suspect a few snow birds will be pointing their cars homeward leaving the sunny south for another year.  Myself I think next month would be the time to leave, as March up here can bring on all kinds of not so good weather.  Also the highways coming home in April are pretty well free from any nasty conditions.  On another note it is a great day for a walk to soak in some of that sunshine and breath in some of our fresh northern air.  You can feel a touch of warmth in the sun now which is a good sign that spring isn’t far off. Actually Friday, the 20th of March is the first day of spring.
