George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well nice morning here temperatures wise.  Waking up it was sitting at -9.7 C | 14.54 F.

Forecast For Today:  Could see a few inches of snow this morning, tonight and into tomorrow.  But it will be short lived with warmer weather moving in for  next week.  Could even get up to 10 C / 50 F next week for a few days.  That should take away a lot of the snow that has accumulated over the winter.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night.

Highway Report:  As of now Highway 522 is pretty well bare and dry throughout.  Travelling should be pretty good for part of the day.  Could deteriorate depending on how much snow hits our area.  As I say it will be short lived.

Ice Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM.  Then again a bit later on from 4:00 PM- 5:30 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good day for fishing.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Hardly a car moving up and down the highway these days.  Only ones that does make an appearance are the locals.  The ones that didn’t head off south to the warmer climates that is.  Good to see so many taking advantage of what should be.   Life is short and time cares for no one.  Tea time here.  Turmeric is on the menu this morning, good for what ails ya and gives a person the energy to stay on top of things.  Enjoy your day.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well not to cold this morning in comparison to what we have had.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at -13.3 C | 8.06 F.

Forecast For Today: Some Snow and a bit of sunshine, very unsettled.

Long Range Forecast:  Looks like this will be the last week of cold weather.  After that things will be warming up quite quickly.  We could see a winter storm and some cold weather Mid-March.  But it will be short lived.  Winter is about done with us here in Port Loring.  OK by me.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 as of now is bare for most parts throughout. Travelling should be OK today.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations overnight.

Ice Fishing Times:  This Morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good day for fishing.  Enjoy it while you can.

Around Town:  Still very quiet.  Stores are slow other than the folks selling fuel.  Snowmobiles keep them busy, reason being we only have two places you can buy gas here in our area. One here in Port Loring and One in Arnstein. Today just going to take things easy, work on this new health book and just let the day take me where it wants too.  Rough life huh?  Chaga coffee is on the menu for this morning.  Can’t get much better than that.   Enjoy your day and stay safe.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:   Well nice looking day out there.  Sun is shining with temperatures waking up sitting at -13 C | 8.6 F.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, possible snow early.

Snow Report:  No accumulations over night.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is pretty well bare from highway 11 in.  From Highway 69 there are some hard packed snow areas with some icy sections.  Travelling today should be OK.

Ice Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few today.  Great day to be out there on the ice.  Enjoy it while you can.

Around Town:  Our last trip to Florida I happened along an old lumber yard, so of course being who we are wife and I, we went in to have a look around.  Way back in one corner of a room I spotted a few old bottles of Coke.  I asked if I could look at them and the old feller said.   “Sure,” and opened up the door even further so I could have a good look.  Here is what I saw and thought I would share it with you.  Click Pictures to Enlarge.  I would think you will be impressed as I was.  Great collection and every bottle unopened.  Enjoy your day, stay safe and try and soak up a wee bit of that sunshine.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Once again it is very cold here in Port Loring.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at, -28.9 C | -20.02 F.

Forecast For Today: Unsettled, probably improving with some  sunshine.  Remaining cold all day and into tonight.

Snow Report:  No accumulations over night.

Highway Report:  Highway does have some bare sections with a few hard packed snow sections.  Travelling should be good today.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then again later on from 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Yesterday my wife and I managed to get the driveway cleaned out.  Took some doing as the wind I guess caused it to drift in quite deep in some spots.  But it got done and we didn’t need any more exercise for the remainder of the day.  Today will stay in looking out being so cold.  Great to have a warm house, along with lots to keep ones mind active.  The main thing in life is to have something to look forward to each morning which we do.  Also one shouldn’t let other folks bother them.  When some one plays on my nerves I just smile and walk away and forget about them, as in reality they don’t mean anything to me.  My grandfather had a good saying which I have used many times throughout my life.  Here it is.  Why should the way I feel be dependent on what you think?  Have to say I have used it many times over the years with good results.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well cold this morning but not as cold as it has been.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at.  -19.2 C | -2.56 F.

Forecast For Today: Unsettled, probably improving as the day progresses. It will become quite cold tonight and into tomorrow.

Snow Report:  Over night we had around 2 inches. With the winds we had yesterday there is some drifting in certain areas.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is snow covered for most parts.  Care should be taken if out and about but travelling should be OK as the day progresses.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.   Good Luck!

Around Town:  Quiet and not much happening in and around our District.  This morning it looks like our driveway needs to be cleaned once again.  Seems to be the trend these days.  But it does give one the exercise they need to stay fit.  Coming in from the cold the wood heat immediately makes you feel warm all over.  Nothing can beat it when it comes to getting warm. For most of my life I have heated with wood and will continue to do so till, well, lets not think on them lines.  This year I had a whole house humidifier installed onto my wood furnace and what a difference.  One now can keep a smaller fire going as with the humidity in the air you feel just that much warmer.  So often I see homes with out it and folks complaining about being cold.  With all forced air furnaces I would say in this country it is a must.  It is also very healthy for you relieving all kinds of conditions that can irritate a person.  So think on that for a bit and if you can wrangle it through your financial situation get it done.  You will enjoy winter just that much more.  What you safe on your heating fuel will more than pay for it.  Oh just make sure it is installed properly.  Very important.  Tea time here, Chaga is on the menu with a touch of chicory.  Good for what ails a person along with giving one the energy they need to enjoy their day.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]
