George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Good Morning.  Well things sure cooled off through the night.  Waking up we were sitting at, -26.1 C | -14.98 F

Forecast For Today:  Changeable, then mending.  Will see some sunshine. Will remain cold all day.

Snow Report:  We had another 1/2 inch last night.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with light snow with some icy sections throughout.  Care should be taken but travelling should be good.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Not much happening.  Stores are all quiet.  But in one sense that is  good thing.  Gives one a chance to draw in the energy that will be needed for summer,  Which isn’t to far off.  I am thinking things will start to warm up  within the next two weeks.  After that the snow will be leaving us quite quickly.  So you had better put that snowmobile to good use if your into that sort of thing.  Tea time here, Turmeric is on the menu for this morning with a touch of organic honey.  Enjoy your day, stay warm and safe.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Around Town;  Quiet for a Sunday morning,  Hardly a car moving up and down the highway.  Wife and I went to North Bay yesterday to pick up some supplies that we were in need of.  Had a great day.  Roads going in was snow covered but on the way home they were bare and dry.  Stores in North Bay were doing a brisk business with customers lined up at every check out.  North Gate Mall was also quite busy.  In the produce department Florida Grapefruit are for sale now.  Nothing can beat the taste than grapefruit from Florida.  I won’t buy them from any other place.  If your into eating healthy this is the time to get them. Enjoy them while you can.  Tea time here English Breakfast with a touch of Chaga this morning.  Should keep my body happy for the whole day.  Very good to help one relax then bringing on energy that you never knew existed.  Enjoy your day.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well very cold morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at; -29.4 C | -20.92 F

Forecast For Today: Changeable, mending.  Continuing cold all day,

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is pretty well bare but does have some icy sections here and there. Driving today from Toronto to Port Loring should be excellent.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night.

Ice Fishing Times: This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few today. Good Luck!

Around Town:  Haven’t got much to report here this morning.  Being so cold I think I will stay in where it is warm today.  Got lots to do in this old house which keeps my mind on the straight and narrow.  The new Natural Health book is all but finished.  Waiting for a couple of entries from some good friends of mine and will then send it off for the first print.  I will let you know when it is ready to purchase.  Going to be a great book for all ages.  Tea time here, think I will have a corn silk tea this morning for a change.  Stay warm and safe if out and about.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well another cold morning here in Port Loring.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at -25.5 C | -13.9 F.

Forecast For Today: Changeable, mending with some sunshine.  Will stay very cold though throughout the day and tonight.

Highway Report: Highway 522 is pretty well bare for most parts but it does have some hard packed ice and snow sections.  Travelling today should be good.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations overnight.

Ice Fishing Report:  Well no problem with the ice not being thick in our area these days.  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then again a bit later from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Not to much to report here this morning.  Being so cold folks are staying in where it is warm.  Can’t say I blame them. Looking out the window at other homes in the area one can see the smoke lazily rising from the chimneys, then being so cold edging towards the ground.  Kind of brings contentment to ones mind and soul just watching it.  Sign of living in the north my old Grandfather used to say. Miss that old feller.  On another note, in a week and a couple days we are back into March.  OK by me as I am ready for some front porch sittin’.  So with that I will head on into the kitchen and pick up my cup of teat that my wife so lovingly makes for me each morning.  English Breakfast all on its own this morning.  Enjoy your day, stay warm and safe.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Bit cloudy and cool waking up.  Temperatures were sitting at -16.9 C | 1.58 F.

Forecast For Today: Stormy and very cold. Will stay very cold over night and into Friday.

Snow Report:  No accumulations over night.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 does have some bare areas but does have some hard packed icy sections.  Care should be taken if out travelling.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck.

Around Town: All is quiet.  For my wife and I we have been steadily enjoying our home made preserves from last years crops.  Preserving is a great way of getting the much needed vitamins and nourishment  this time of year.  We do up around 80 jars of tomatoes from our gardens along with other veggies and come summer of the following year they are pretty well all gone.  Along with them our dried herbs make a great additive to the different dishes my wife makes.  Seems to bring the body into a state that keeps asking for more.  Tea time here, English Breakfast with a leave or two of Dandelion.  Great way to start ones day.  In Closing, I Would Like To Wish You Well.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]
