George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Ice Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that  the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck.

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well not to bad a day temperatures wise.  Waking up it was sitting at; -13.4 C | 7.88 F.

Forecast For Today: Snow, very unsettled.

Snow Report.  Through the night we had another 2 – three inches of light snow.  In total slowly getting close to 2 feet in some areas.

Road Report.  Highway 522 coming in from Highway 11 is pretty well bare and dry, but it does have some hard packed snow sections.  Coming in from Highway 69 it is pretty well covered with hard packed snow throughout.  Care should be taken if out and about but travelling should be OK.

Ice Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from; 12:00 PM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Should have fish for supper.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well our Winterfest is in the works starting today.   Scroll down to one of my former posts for all the times and information of what is taking place.  Should make for a fun weekend.  Yesterday we took a drive to North Bay to visit our son Karl.  Also picked up some groceries and things which we were in need of.  Had a great time and a nice meal out too.  Good to get away now and then.   I have noticed over the past few months more organic items are becoming more popular. Which is fantastic. The more that folks buy in Organic, the cheaper they will become. For years the Powers that be said that the world is growing so fast they couldn’t do with out all the chemicals or GMO that they use on and in our veggies and things. It was a necessity. Well that is now proven to be not true. Being a farmer I have fought most my life to eliminate all the pesticides and things as my father before me. I am not blaming these folks as in reality they just didn’t know any better. With the new generation now coming into the picture things have been changing and will change even more. Reason being is that they, the younger ones can’t be fooled. They know what is going on and now they are demanding things change to a more healthy state. Which is a great thing. So again remember, this is my opinion only.  In Closing, I Would Like To Wish You Well.  You can reach George Walters at; [email protected]

Around Town:   For myself and my wife we have been steadily working on the new Natural Health Book.  It is just about finished.  We are now in the process of editing it. It has been a long road in its preparation as I wanted it to be self explanatory and easy to read. It will be a book for all ages and walks of life.  Years of wisdom that has been handed down from Grey Wolf my Native Friend, my Grandfather, Father, Mother, Reg and Laura Potter the folks that raised me, Doctor friends, Specialists along with myself. It will be a book that you will feel comfortable with.   So guess that is enough about me and my doings.  Heading off for my morning tea.  English Breakfast all on its own.  Like to do that now and then.  In Closing I Would Like To Wish You Well.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well warmed up a bit from yesterday.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -16.2 C | 2.84 F.  I figure anything above 0 F is pretty good for this time of year in our area.

Forecast For Today: Some snow entering into the picture a bit later.  Might see a wee bit of sunshine here and there.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with hard packed snow.  Does have some icy sections, so care should be taken.  Travelling is fine now but could deteriorate a bit later on this afternoon.  At any rate care should be taken as always.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying the best times to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then again from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good luck!

Around Town:  On the good side of things I haven’t had to clean the driveway for the past four days.  I have noticed that the snowmobiles are out in full force heading off on their trail of choice.  Great to see so many folks out an about.  I never got into Snowmobiling much.  Years ago I did have an old Ski-Do which was quite a machine.  Often wonder what happened to that old girl.  I do see some folks restoring them now and then, which is a great thing, as it keeps our past alive.  Started good too, all the time I had it.  Usually no more than two or three pulls.  I imagine most today are all electric start.  The part that bothers me the most is the cost of getting set up.  The machines today are in the thousands, put that together with warm clothes, licences, gas, maintenance and insurance and on top of  that the price of a trail pass, well for some it is just a bit out of reach.  Not complaining mind ya, I give credit to those that can do it. My wife and I do get out quite a bit, our choice of transportation being Shanks’ mare. Leave the  Shanks’ mare with you to think on.  So my friends, heading off for a tea. What Kind?  Oh! Just regular English Breakfast this morning, thank you.     In Closing I Would Like To Wish You Well.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]
