George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Ground Hog Day In Port Loring Ontario

At 8:10 a.m. Ontario’s Wiarton Willie came out under a cloudy dawn and didn’t see his shadow, which is supposed to mean an early spring.  I would say he is about as right as Environment Canada’s Forecast.  Maybe a touch better as I tend to put my faith in Mother Nature.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Cold Monday morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -23.7 C | -10.66 F.

Forecast For Today:   Some Snow with a bit of sunshine peeking though now and then, very unsettled.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is partially covered with hard packed snow, along with a few icy sections throughout.  Care should be taken but travelling should be OK.  Will remain cold all day warming up a wee bit tomorrow.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again a bit later from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few. Can’t get any better.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  ltss-0463Our Winterfest is almost ready to begin.  For all the details just click on the flyer.  On another note, I have been digging into last years supply of garlic.  Had a substantial amount harvested and is it good.  My wife adds it to almost every meal.  To get the best out of your garlic you should be eating a wee bit each day raw,  along with cooking it.  The cooking brings out other beneficial items where the raw has its own.  Both are needed to maintain a healthy body.  There is nothing like garlic for over all health.  I don’t recommend buying the off shore kind.  A way to make sure you are getting the best of the best, look for garlic in your grocery store that has a bit of roots still attached to the bulb.  So my friends time for a Chaga Tea and see what the day brings upon us.  Every day is a mystery, unfolding right before our eyes.  In Closing I Would Like To Wish You Well.   You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Around Town:  Not to much to report here for February 1st.   Thinking I will just take it easy today.   Then again I do that every day.  Hmm, well what can you do.  Tough life for sure.  But it wasn’t always this way, took a lot of hard work to get to where we are now.  Would I change anything?  Nope, I figure we are right where we are suppose to be in life.  Enjoying it to the fullest.   So being such a great day I am heading off for a Dandelion Tea.  There is nothing on this earth that can heal the body like the Dandelion.  Make sure where you dig them that the soil is good and enjoy!   In Closing I Would Like To Wish You Well.  You can reach me George Walters at  [email protected]

Happenings Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Cold morning here waking up. Temperatures were sitting at                      -20.5 C | -4.9 F.  Sun is shining though which helps some.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, possible snow early.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with hard packed snow but travelling should be OK if care is taken.  The Ploughs have been through.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying the best times to be out there will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well we had around six inches of new snow yesterday so I am warming up the snow blower so it can do what it needs to do.  I usually clean it by hand but being so cold and the snow being a touch hard, thinking this will be the best approach to what has to be done.   There is a limit of what an older feller can do and the secret to that is knowing ones limits.  So my friends, as said before, but still important.  Try and get outside for a few minutes taking in some fresh northern air and let the sun sink into your skin on your face.  Better than any flu shot bar none.   In closing I would like to wish you well.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]
