George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Fishing Times, Weather & Happenings For Port Loring

Good Morning:  Cold morning here in Port Loring Ontario Canada.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -13.1 C | 8.42 F.   And it won’t warm up much more neither.

Forecast For Today:  Snow, very unsettled.  Tonight we will get a lot more and will carry on into tomorrow with some high winds entering into the picture, making things worse.  Also along with all that temperatures are going to drop even more.  So got a few hectic days heading our way weather wise.

Highway Report:  As of now Highway 522 is pretty well bare and dry throughout.  Things will change though later on tonight.  Those out driving later on should give yourself lots of time and put into effect some extra caution.

Fishing Times:  This morning with gathered data the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from, 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later on from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the South West and at the moment it is calm.

Around Town:  Very quiet these days with the holidays upon us.

So tomorrow is the start of a New Year.  2015.  Man does time fly.  Seems the older one gets the faster times goes.  Remembering back to my younger days there wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t wish I was older.  Today though same thing in theory, just I wished time would slow down some.  But in reality time waits for no one or anything, it has a mind of its own and seems to smile in its agenda towards life here on earth.  On another note we are into burning firewood these days with these cold temperatures.  Sure feels good though and if truth be known there isn’t any heat like wood heat.  Seems that when coming in from the outdoors on a cold winters day like today, your instantly warm.  My wife and I love it.  Also glad we had this new wood furnace installed as it fantastic.  Cut our wood use in half I would say.  Also renovating our home with all new insulation throughout the walls has helped immensely too.  Nice to be able to look out at the cold knowing that you are going to be toasty and warm for the remainder of the winter.  So my friends, once again Happy New Years to you all and stay safe.  No drinking and driving neither we don’t need anyone loosing their licences or hurting themselves or someone else.   You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Around Town:  Well Christmas has passed us by for another year.  Folks today are settling back into their daily routines.  Those that are looking for some deals will be out there in swarms today at their stores of choice, being Boxing Day.  Suspect there will be a few good deals.  In reality though there isn’t too many.  Gathered data says that for  most parts it is an illusion of what really is happening when it comes to Boxing Day Sales.  But it is fun getting out visiting the big stores now and then.  Also a good way to wear off some of the holiday weight that one puts on, with all the goodies that are at hand at any given time.  So my friends,  hope you all had a very good Christmas.  Enjoy your day and stay safe.  you can reach me George Walters at [email protected]

Around Town:  Well with Christmas almost upon us all is quiet around Port Loring.  Some I suspect are still out gathering up gifts of choice.  Seems there is always that last minute shopper.  I told my two boys this morning that the theory behind this gift giving is that one should take home more than what was given.  They gave me the look.  Well I thought it was a good idea ha ha.  Well guess I will go have my tea and the sit back and let the day take its course.  Merry Christmas my friends.   You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]
