George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Weather, Information & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well cloudy morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures  are sitting at -4.1 C | 24.62 F.

Forecast For Today: Snow, very unsettled this morning then we will see some freezing rain which  is in the forecast for today, an into tonight, along with tomorrow.  Going to have a few days of not so nice weather.  If out and about one should take extra care.

Highway Report:  Few icy sections through out and could get quite bad if this freezing rain entertains our area.

Fishing Times:  This morning with gathered data the old weather stick is saying that that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM.   Winds are coming in from the North North East.  Not the greatest day for fishing.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.

Around Town:  Well Christmas is closing in on us quite rapidity.  Young ones are getting more excited with the hopes of Santa paying them a visit.  My Grandson gets to chattin’ about the presents about every five minutes.  Great to see them so excited as it takes me back to when I was young.  Didn’t have the gifts that they do today but we still had a great time. For most parts back when it was the goodies that the lady of the house made up,  like puddings of usually four kinds.  Pies, along with cookies of all shapes and sizes.  In the evening the turkey would be set on the table with all the extras and we were in for one great tasting meal.  Presents if any would be all home made for most parts, but every once in awhile a store bought item came into being.  When that happened I was in awe for the whole day.  After supper the guitar would be brought out and Reg the man of the house would pull up his rocker by the fireplace and songs would be song well into the night.  Great times for sure and still missed into today.  So my friends enjoy your day.  Tea time  here with my favourite cup and then will see what the day bestows upon me.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Weather, Fishing Times & Information

Good Morning:  Well a cool morning here in Port Loring. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -18.6 C | -1.48 F.  I am thinking I might just have to put on a Jacket venturing outside.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, possible snow early.  Should see substantial sunshine throughout the day and into tomorrow as well.

Fishing Times:  This morning putting data together conclusive information is saying the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again from 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM.  Playing with words here this morning which in turn puts a whole new prospective on what things really are or should be.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry.  Should be no problem with travelling today or tomorrow.

Around Town:  Quiet.  But in saying that with Christmas closing in on us I do know folks are quite busy in the cities. Check out counters this year are backed up in most all stores including restaurants.  Good sign with folks spending money as it makes for a good economy.  Old Henry Ford,  said one time many years ago, that it is not the employer who pays the wages.  Employers only handle the money.  It is the customer who pays the wages.  So my friends, dress warm today, Keep head, neck, chest and feet warm. Don’t need anyone getting sick out there before Christmas.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]
