George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Port Loring Ontario Happenings

Good morning. Well a bit warmer this morning waking up to temperatures sitting at…22 C | 71.6 F.  Going to be a warm one once again today.  So safes money if one closes up the house a bit keeping it cool.  Got a nice breeze though at this stage in the morning.

Forecast For Today:   Stormy, much rain closing in on us an into the night.  So good time to think on some inside things to do or go shopping.  Lots of things to see and do in Port Loring along with visiting a few gift shops.  Makes for an interesting day to say the least.

Bug Report:  Have to say that things in this department are improving each day as summer marches along.  Mosquitoes are still here of course along with a few horsefly’s and deerfly’s.  But not so bad.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from..9:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then once again from 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.

News Around Town:  In connection with the fishing times, I did get out yesterday with my good friend Barry.  Left around 7:00 AM and got home around 2:00 PM.  Had a great time with boat & motor running like a charm.  Also the fishing times were right on the money, as Barry and I pulled in some really nice ones.  3 Pickerel, 1 small bass and one crappy.  Kept it as I haven’t tried one before and have to tell you, as Barry says, they are quite tasty.  So needless to say we had a Pickerel supper.  I took a picture at the end of the day it is below, you can click on it to enlarge.  Just to show you our catch for the day. The large Pickerel gave a good fight and took a bit getting it in the boat.  Was fun though. Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Ontario, Information

Good morning.  Nice looking day out there, shaping up to be a fine long weekend.   Temperatures waking up were sitting at…19.3 C | 66.74 F.  Will be a warm one as the day progresses.  Good day to keep the blinds or curtains closed a bit so, the house stays cool.  Also saves on the Hydro Bill as that isn’t cheap any-more.  Prices in my opinion…are way out of line.  As is our gas prices in this country.  Amazing how they can get away with it.   Anyway…

Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later.

Bug Report:  I am happy to report that the mosquitoes have died down some as the dragon flies are cleaning them quite rapidly.  Normal amounts now surround us throughout the day and into the evening hours.  A few pesky deer flies and horseflies are still amongst us and will remain for the rest of the season till cooler weather returns.

Fishing Times:  The old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there today will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Again from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM and once again from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them in the early hours and a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the later hours.  I am thinking for the 24th Annual Poker Run, this year, it will be a super great day.  Have fun and good luck.ltss-0355

Around Town:   Not to much happening.  Farmers Market had it’s opening day.   We here at our small store had a great day with folks dropping by picking up items of choice.  Also noticed my flutes were selling quite well this year.  Early too, so that is a good sign of what is to come.  Right now we have a great selection of flutes and amongst them some wonderful sounding branch flutes, which are all one of a kind.  Amazing how beautiful they sound.  The nice thing is, that you don’t have to know how to read music to play the Native American Flute.  With in minutes one can make music that enhances ones most inner soul.  Also comes with full instructions, along with my expertise giving you a free lesson.  So my friends if your in need of some medicine that soothes the inner mind, drop by and take a look at what I have to offer.
