Morning chat, Sept. 1/2021

Good Morning! It’s a great looking Sept 1st day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with the temperature sitting at 8.8 C | 47.84 F. Which, as you can see, that things have cooled down a lot. It will warm up as the day moves forward. But not as warm as it was. And along with that, I don’t suspect we will get any rain until Sunday. And then it won’t amount to much. Highway 522 has quieted down somewhat with the kids getting ready to go back to school. On another note, we have once again been busy taking down some more trees. We took down 15 earlier in the year, my wife and I by ourselves. But there were still four that were leaning the wrong way. So we hired a feller to take them down. I have to say he did a fantastic job. After he left, my wife and I got busy and cleaned things up, which was a job in itself. And we aren’t finished yet. Today we will finish it. But we did get the bulk of the work done yesterday. I do have a couple more small dead ones to come down, which, if I can drum up enough energy, will do later on in the day. First things first. After that, I think we should have all our projects we planned on doing this year completed and then some. It is hard to believe we did what we did. LOL, I don’t know where we got all our energy this year. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today, my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be between 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM. Then again from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM. I give it a 1-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. With the weather cooling down, it will slow things down some. But later on in the week it will get better. Good Luck!

Morning Chat Aug 30/2021

Good Morning! It looks like it is shaping up to be a nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning and as of now the humidity has left us. The temperatures have dropped substantially and truth be told it will be a pleasant day. Getting out of bed, the temperature was sitting at 18.1 C | 64.58 F. It will warm up a bit, but not as much as it has been. The good news is we didn’t have any tornados in our are yesterday or through the night. They did however have one north of North Bay, but I don’t think it did do much damage. But looking at our weather and how it is changing I am thinking over the next few years we will be having some not so good weather. Humans are to blame a wee bit, but there are a lot of other factors that we have to take into account too. Like one would be that our earth from the inside is getting hotter and edging up. Let’s hope things will straighten out in the coming years. If the virus wasn’t bad enough … sheesh. Highway 522 is still busy, but it is slowing down somewhat. Man we are almost into September, hard to believe as to me the summer has flown by. Yesterday I worked in our basement fixing a few things that needed to be done. Today I am going to paint the walls down there. I will see how that works out. I like to get it done while I can have the windows open. And before we put in firewood for winter. Which won’t be long. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then see what the day has in store. Life is a mystery. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that fishing will be the best between … 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM and then possibly between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Morning chat Aug 29/2021

Good Morning. With the way things are going, it looks like we might have some more rain off and on throughout the day. However, tomorrow things take a change for the better with some real nice weather moving into our area. Not as hot, less humidity and lots of sunshine. Which should last well into next week. Actually, there might be a day or so later on in the week, that a jacket might be necessary. Hmm, maybe I should get my long handles out of storage. LOL Just seems like yesterday I put them away for the summer. Highway 522 is still busy, as is Highway 11 and 69. Yesterday my lovely wife and I went to North Bay to pick up some groceries before the long weekend, and we noticed a lot of campers, trucks with boats, you name it heading back to the cities. So in that department things haven’t changed much. In town, there were lots of folks in the stores and going everywhere. You wouldn’t know there was a virus among us. Which, of course, will make the number of infections rise even more than it is now. We were up over the 800 a day yesterday here in Ontario. I suspect it will get a lot worse before it gets better. The unvaccinated are the ones that takes the largest hit. I feel for them, but there isn’t much anyone can do about it. They made their own choice. While in town we ate our lunch in our car, took in what the city had to offer and headed on home chatting to our sons on the phone. It’s nice to be able to chat to them. Even if we haven’t seen each other much over the past two years. We also noticed that a lot of the leaves are turning colour along the way, along with a few flocks of Canadian Geese heading south. I kind of think they should be staying up here for a few more weeks, where it’s cool. But … nature has a mind of its own. Today if it doesn’t rain I will work up a spot in my vegetable garden and plant some more lettuce, which should last us for the remainder of the summer. We have been eating tomatoes for the past month along with selling a few baskets out front of our home on a trailer we have set up. We also have had an abundance of Zucchini this year. I put out a wheelbarrow load yesterday, and most of them sold before we got home from grocery shopping. With that bit of info under your hat … if you wear a hat, I am off for my morning bowl off cereal and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: This morning, my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there catching a few will be between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM and then again from 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM. I give it a 2-star rating out of 5 for catching a few. If you are heading out, I would suggest you bring along your raincoat. Good Luck!

Morning Chat Aug 27/2021

Good Morning. Once again it is a nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with one difference than yesterday. The temperature has cooled off, sitting at 14.6 C | 58.28 F. It will rise a wee bit as the day progresses. But not as hot as it was, and the humidity will be left behind. This is the kind of weather I enjoy. The thing is, I have most of all the outside work that we wanted to do this summer finished, LOL. But that’s okay, as now my lovely wife and I can enjoy what we have accomplished and relax a bit. Maybe even do some fishing. I will wait a few days, though, until the fish become accustomed to the cooler weather. Highway 522 is busy, but it is slowing down a wee bit. I suspect it is because everyone is leaving cottage country heading back to the big cities, getting things ready for their kids to go back to school. Is that a good thing? I don’t think so, but there are a lot that does. Time will tell, as even now the infection rate from this virus in Ontario and across Canada is rising every day. For my wife and I, even though we have had our two Pfizer Shots, we are still wearing a mask when around people, keeping our distance and only going to places that is absolutely necessary. Along with a lot of sanitary precautions, like washing our hands and groceries after being out amongst others or stores. I don’t think this is the time to let down our defences. The thing is even though we have had our shots we can still pass it to others that doesn’t have them. Anyway, enough of that. I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today our old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there fishing will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM and then again from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM. I give it a 1-star rating out of 5 for catching a few. Not the greatest day, but you never know. Good Luck!

Morning Post, Aug 26/2021

Good Morning. Once again we are having some fine weather here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning, with a bit of haze. It will be very warm once again today, but then … things start to change for the better. Meaning it will cool down some. Which is okay by me, as I am not a lover of the really hot weather. And on top of that, I would like to do some fishing, now that I have my boat and motor almost ready to go. And a place to clean the fish we catch, as I finished up my new fish cleaning station that I have been working on for the past two days. It’s amazing what you can do if you just do it. I didn’t have any plans to work with and just went with it, and it turned out pretty nice. If I do say so myself. LOL Today my lovely wife and I have mowing to do, which we will get to shortly, before it gets to hot. After that we will see. I am thinking I will see if my old motor on the boat will start, as I haven’t had it running for almost two years. And if things goes to plan, I will hook up my old fish finder. Not that I really use it that much, but it is nice to know where the shoals are, as that is usually where the good size fish hang around. Not on top, but around the edges. But you all know that, right? LOL, Highway 522 is still very busy these days, which is to be expected, since we opened things back up and allowed people in from other countries. And they are coming … in droves. Let’s hope things work out for the best. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal, which has a lot of good in it for staying healthy. Take care and stay safe. GW

Fishing Times: Today, my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be catching fish will be between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Then again a bit later on in the day between7:30 PM and 9:00 PM. It won’t be the greatest day for fishing as all this hot weather has made them lazy along with hiding down deep where it is cool. But you never know. I give it a 1-star rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck! GW
