The Lie We’re Eating

Only On The Walters Post

So here’s the thing. We’ve been deceived. Call it what you will … the powers that be, the food industry, or just plain bad thinking … but the truth is staring us right in the face. The food we eat today isn’t just bad for us, it’s poison dressed up to look appealing.

Take our meats, for example. Hormones, chemicals, sprays on the feed, gases in the packaging hell… it’s like a science experiment that somehow ended up on your plate. And vegetables? They’re coated in chemicals too, grown in soil that’s worn out, stripped of nutrients, and treated like a warehouse floor instead of living earth.

Now, I hate to admit it, being a farmer for many years myself, but a lot of “farmers” today don’t really farm. They buy the latest shiny equipment, spend thousands on machines that pollute and drain their bank accounts, and call it progress. They don’t know the land, the animals, or how to actually grow food that feeds you. And when you try to find good produce at farmers’ markets, most of it isn’t even local. And if it is, good luck finding anything with taste or nutrition. It’s all about money, appearances, and convenience.

Here’s the kicker. The powers that be tell us all this stuff is “safe in moderation.” Sure, safe… because if you take a little bit of every chemical, spray, hormone, additive, preservative, and wash it down with whatever else society shoves at you, it adds up to a cocktail of poison served three times a day. And how about our kids today? We let them run wild, never teach them discipline, and wonder why society is a mess. Heaven forbid we hurt their precious feelings by telling them to sit down, be quiet, or do what’s right.

Not sure how I got onto that last part, any way, it’s no wonder we’re sick — physically, mentally, and spiritually. We’re eating chemical-laced food, drinking toxins, and expecting our bodies and minds to keep up. We’ve traded knowledge for convenience, wisdom for marketing, and nutrition for packaging.

So here’s the truth: we’re eating poison, raising kids without backbone, and calling it progress. We’re being sold a lie at every meal, told it’s safe because someone in a suit said so. But it’s not. Look at what you put in your mouth, look at what your kids eat, look at the land we’re destroying — then ask yourself, who’s really winning here?

My take? Grow your own if you can, pay attention to what you eat, and don’t buy the lie. And for those who say, “oh, it’s all safe,” remember this: add enough safe things together, and you’ve got trouble on a plate.

Notes Most Won’t Print on August 17/2025

Good morning, You know… thinking on things… not that it really matters to most, but I’ve outlived typewriters, ink ribbons, and editors, but not the words.

Well, it’s a cloudy, gloomy morning waking up here in cottage country. And we had a shower roll through during the night, and that left my shoes soaked as I forgot to bring them in before going to bed. Guess I’ll need to dry them out, though I’m lucky enough to have another pair to keep me going in the meantime.

Port Loring Weather

Monday: Nice day with periods of clouds and sunshine. High near 71°F (22°C), with a low around 55°F (13°C).

Today: A passing morning shower, then cooler with partial sunshine. High around 67°F (20°C), dropping tonight to about 45°F (7°C).

Port Loring Fishing Times

  • Morning: 7:13 AM to 9:13 AM
  • Midday: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM
  • Afternoon: 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM
  • Evening: 7:00 PM to 9:44 PM

Fishing Tip: My old Dad always said if the wind’s in your face, that’s where the fish will be, too. Another good one was to keep an eye on the minnows, as if they’re skittish near shore, you can bet something bigger isn’t far behind.

On another note, yesterday I actually managed to get some work done outside around the home here, and somehow even wrestled a story into submission that’s been nagging me for a while now. Truth be told, it was a mighty fine day… so fine, in fact, I half-expected the world to show up at my door asking what the catch was. But nope, it just let me have it, and I’ll take that as a win.

So what are you to today, GW?

Well today I am thinking of fixing up my shop a bit better, as after that garage sale things aren’t where they should be… and with winter not too far off, and if the house doesn’t sell… well, I will be wanting a place to work in. So yea, that is what I will be doing.

But not until after I have my breakfast, that my lovely wife is making for me.

Reality Check: Crime, Drugs, and Common Sense

Only On The Walters Post

Just my take here… these are my thoughts about crime, drugs, and homelessness. I’m not telling anyone to break the law or take matters into their own hands.

You know, lately I have been taking a close look at what’s happening in New York right now under Trump, and I’ve got to say, he’s on the right track. He’s finally cleaning things up where others wouldn’t, crime, drugs, and the homeless taking over sidewalks and businesses. But here’s the thing, it’s not just New York that needs action. It should be happening here in Canada too, in our big cities and even in a lot of our smaller towns.

It’s gotten so bad that people don’t even want to walk the streets at night. Some won’t even set foot on a nature trail anymore because they know they’ll be hassled, asked for money, or worse. Hell, even stopping for a coffee isn’t what it used to be. Instead of relaxing, you’re keeping one eye open, wondering if trouble’s going to walk through the door. That’s no way for anyone to live.

Now, some folks will say Trump’s approach is cruel. But truth told, it isn’t. What’s cruel is letting good, hardworking people live in fear every day while criminals and addicts take over. And let’s not kid ourselves… we aren’t doing the homeless or the drug addicts any favors by letting them stay where they are. And giving out free drugs isn’t helping, it’s making things worse. If you really want to do something, get them off the street and into places where they can get real help. Handing them money or another hit isn’t compassion, it’s lazy thinking. I don’t know where some of these so-called leaders get their ideas, but it sure isn’t from using their heads.

Here’s how I see it:

  • Set aside a designated area outside the cities where the homeless can go, and make sure they know where to find help if they want it.
  • For the criminals and drug pushers, put them in jail. No excuses, no endless debates, and keep them there.

Right now, businesses are closing because people won’t go near them, and they won’t, not when they expect to be harassed the moment they step out or in the door. You let that keep happening, and towns don’t just lose safety, they lose their sense of community, dry up and become a den of crime.

Here’s what I think, yea again: the folks in charge don’t give a damn about you, and they’ve shown it time and time again. They’ll argue, they’ll stall, and the streets will keep sliding downhill. But this is one of those rare moments where leaders need to quit worrying about being popular and just do what’s right. Give the police the manpower. Fix the laws, so things can get done and if need be, bring in the military to lend a helping hand. Make it happen.

Sure, plenty of people will bitch and complain., hell they always do. But clamp down quick and firm, and within six months, or sooner… the noise will fade. Things will settle, people will adjust, and communities will be safer again. Guaranteed, as humans have a short memory span. Harsh but true.

You know... sometimes the truth isn’t pretty, but you have to remember that neither is crime, drugs, or watching your hometown fall apart. Clean it up, stop pretending handouts are a solution, and let folks live without looking over their shoulder every time they’re out.

And if that sounds too harsh for some, maybe they’ve forgotten what harsh really looks like, take a walk down the street and look around. That’s harsh. What I’m saying one more time… is simple: fix it, face it, and quit pretending.

Words with My Morning Coffee on August 16/2025

Good morning, some days the words come easy, today we’ll see.

Well, one thing is for sure, no one can complain about not having warm weather this year. Still, you better enjoy it while it lasts, because things are going to change in the coming days. Personally, I don’t mind the heat all that much as living where we do, it never stays around for long.

And somewhere in the back of my mind I hear my old Dad’s voice, saying:: Don’t get too used to it, the seasons always settle their own accounts.

Weather Forecast for Port Loring

Today (Saturday, August 16)
Expect a very warm day, with mixed sunshine and clouds and a morning shower in spots, followed by scattered afternoon thunderstorms. The high will reach around 86 °F, with an overnight low near 57 °F.

Dad would add, “Keep an eye on the sky; those afternoon storms sneak up faster than you think.”

Tonight
Conditions settle into mostly clear skies, with temperatures dipping to about 57 °F—a calm end to what’s been a humid, unsettled day.

Tomorrow (Sunday, August 17)
The air cools off and clears up: partly sunny skies, noticeably less humid, and a high near 69 °F, while nighttime temperatures drop to around 46 °F.

Highway 522: I have to say, there isn’t half the traffic here that we’ve seen in years past. And truthfully, there’s a reason for that. A lot of folks are hurting these days, with those in power taking the money people work so hard to earn. Half a paycheck gone in the blink of an eye, and not one of the people taking it has done a lick of work for it.

I will say it again: Every penny a working man or woman earns should be theirs. Not one red cent should be touched. They’ll tell you it’s for the greater good, but the truth is… it’s just a legal way to rob the working many/woman.

On another note, yesterday I mostly took it easy at my computer, working on a story that had been nudging me for the past few days, and it turned out to be a good day as the words flowed as if they were meant to be told. Grey Wolf would have said there’s a rhythm to these things, like the wind moving through the trees, and when it comes, you just follow it, letting it guide you. You could say it feels like stepping into a quiet clearing where you’re exactly where you’re meant to be, and everything falls into place.

Port Loring Fishing – Saturday, August 16

Best Fishing Times:

  • Evening Bite: ~6:45 PM – 8:45 PM

Fishing Tips:

  • Fish will likely stay in deeper water or under shade—check around weeds, rocks, and fallen trees.
  • Move lures slowly; warm water makes them sluggish.
  • Lures/Bait: Small jigs, spinnerbaits, or live minnows work best today. Topwater lures can be good right before sunset.
  • Light wind toward shore can push fish to edges—cast near banks.
  • Safety first: storms expected in the evening, so plan accordingly.

Dad’s Note:

“Fish the edges, watch the movement, and keep your hands steady. The simplest approach often works best.”

So with that, I’m off to enjoy the breakfast my lovely wife made, and then we’ll head out to the front porch and watch the world go by, taking it easy for now, though I’ve got to tell you, we’ve both been working harder than we probably should.

A Few Lines on August 14/2025

Good morning, folks. You know… I’ve been writing so long, my first drafts used to come in on horseback. And that is the honest truth.

Well, as you know, I’ve missed a few mornings here on the blog, and there’s a good reason for it. This past week, I’ve been working on a novel I started years ago, the one that’s been sitting in the back of my mind for far too long. I finally decided it was time to get the first half done.

The rest of the story is already clear in my head. I thought about making it a series, but decided to tell it all in one book instead, which means it’ll be a bit longer. I’m happy to say what I’ve written so far turned out just the way I wanted.

Now I can get back to my regular routine, and when winter comes, I’ll be ready to finish the whole thing.

As for today, my wife and I are going to get the mowing out of the way, which will take most of the morning. With all this dry weather we’ve been having, we were able to skip a week of cutting, but now the yard is starting to look a bit shabby — and that bothers us to no end. The fix? Wake up the old mowers, which we’ll do as soon as we finish our breakfast.

On another note, the vegetable gardens have been looking much better since we had that rain a couple of days ago. No matter how much you water, it’s never as good as what a good rain can do. Especially our tomatoes, which are just starting to turn red.

Actually had a couple of tomato sandwiches for supper last night, and they tasted real good. Nothing like home-grown tomatoes – those store-bought ones have no taste at all. And here’s the thing: if there’s no taste, there’s nothing good in them health-wise either. But today, well, most everything in the stores is the same. Kind of a shame where we’ve gotten to over the years.

So, with all that said, I’ve got a lot to do today, so I’m off to have the breakfast my little woman is making for me. She’s already rattling pans in the kitchen, which is my cue to get moving. Once the work’s out of the way, I’ll swing back by the blog and chat a bit more. There’s usually something worth talking about.
