What’s Happening in and around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Oct 25/2022

Well it is a nice day for sure waking up here in Port Loring. Not as nice as yesterday, as we are in the midst of some clouds. The temperatures also have cooled down a touch, but it is still nice sitting at 14.4 C | 57.92 F. It will warm up somewhat as the day moves forward. After today though things begin to change with rain moving into our area tomorrow which will cool things down for Thursday. But in saying that, the sun will return on Thursday. After that it is touch and go. But it is that time of year when we can expect anything. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. There were a few people moving around yesterday, mostly hunters, as I have been seeing a lot of orange in the vehicles going by our home. Oh, they did shingle the roof on the LCBO yesterday, Just in case you’re interested. Ha ha

On another note, we and I did get a lot done outside yesterday. My wife got a lot of things painted and stained outside that she will be painting scenes and things on for customers. It’s nice to get them done up outside, as it keeps the fumes out of our home. Myself I cleaned up my shop a bit, did some welding on a project I am working on, had lunch and then got busy vacuuming and washing our car. I also managed to get a coat of wax on it. After that, I lubricated things up and called it a day. We even had enough time left in the day to enjoy a coffee on our front porch, soaking in some of that free Vitamin D. We like to try and get all we can of that going into winter.

With that I am off for my breakfast a bowl of porridge and will then see what the day has in store. Stay safe, a lot of people sick these days in our area.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Oct 24/2022

Good Morning!

Once again, we are in the midst of some really nice weather here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at 10.7 C | 51.26 F, and it will warm up as the day moves forward. Hard to believe we are having weather like this. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, with quite a few pickups and campers moving past our home. I suspect most of them are deer hunters, as deer season is fast approaching. The first two weeks in November is when things get started. At least for those using rifles. So knowing that care will have to be taken when out and about. I stay out of the bush this time of year. Also, you have to keep a good eye out for the deer along the highways, as they can be moving fast trying to get away from the hunters, and if you hit one … they can do a lot of damage to your vehicle. Then again, we here in the north have to always be on our guard when driving, as you never know when one might run out in front of you. The thing that a lot doesn’t realize is that if you see one, there is usually more close behind.

Yesterday being so nice outside, my wife cut down a lot of our flower plants in our gardens, and I trimmed up some trees. We then raked a few leaves and cleaned our eve troughs. After that we sat outside on our front porch taking in the beautiful day, along soaking up some needed Vitamin D. All in all it was a great day. Today I am thinking of vacuuming out our car and washing it. If I have enough wax, I might give it a coat, which will help it get through the winter, protecting it from all the chemicals that they are putting on the road these days. My wife and I take advantage of the nice weather when ever we can. We have been doing that for most of our lives. I have always worked with the weather, and it has worked for me, I always seem to get things done at the right time. I guess that is the farmer in me.

With that, I am off for a pancake with an egg on top that my lovely wife is making for me. After that, we will see what develops. One day at a time. Hell, sometimes it’s an hour at a time.

What’s Happening In and Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Oct 23/2022

I had one of them swings growing up on the farm.

And it is … once again a really nice day, weather wise. The sun is shinning, and the temperature is or was sitting at 9.9 C | 49.82 F. It will warm up a lot more as the day moves forward. It’s what you would call a Fall Summer’s Day. Highway 522 is bare and dry and the traffic is almost nil this morning, being Sunday. Most folks around here take it easy on Sundays. For myself, it doesn’t matter what day it is, they are all the same to me, I enjoy them all. Kind of how you look at things.

On another note, I worked in my old woodworking shop yesterday and today my wife and I are planning on cleaning our eve troughs. They shouldn’t be as bad this year, as we had to take down a lot of the trees that were close to our home throughout the summer. They were getting up there in size along with being quite old. We didn’t want a storm to come in and knock them down on our house. But in saying that, for what we took down we planted a few new maple trees which will look real nice in the coming years. Remove and replace, I always say.

With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal my lovely wife is making for me and will then see what the day has in store … other than what I have planned. You never know.

What’s Happening In and Around Port Loring, Ontario on Oct 22/22

That’s Where we Will be in a bit.

Good Morning!

And it is a nice morning here in Port Loring. The temperature is like summer, waking up sitting at 11.3 C | 52.34 F. It will warm up more with lots of sunshine as the day progresses. We could see temperatures for the next four days or so reach the 70F/21C mark. No reason to not get outside today, that’s for sure. I know I will be. Front porch sittin’ is on our menu for when we have our coffee this afternoon. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, just the way I like it. And if it was up to me, it could stay this way all winter.

On another note, I have been working in my old woodworking shop these days. I put most of the day out there yesterday and will probably do the same today. I did light the shop stove just to take out the coldness from last night, but will let it go out now, with it being so nice outside.

The Robbins we saw yesterday have left, or at least I haven’t seen any this morning. Most birds have left for warmer weather, but a few choose to linger around occasionally. Which is nice to see. My lovely wife and I enjoy watching them.

With that, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then let the day unfold around me. Have a great day and try and get outside for the next few days, so you can soak up some of that good vitamin D. There is none better than what the sun has to offer.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada

Yesterday’s Snow Getting out of Bed.

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy, cool morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at 4.8 C | 40.64 F. The snow we had yesterday didn’t amount to anything, and melted before the day ended. Actually, our temperatures are going to rise for the next few days into the low 60s F. It will feel somewhat like summer after what we have been having. This damp cold weather plays havoc with the old body, that’s for sure. These so-called specialists say it has nothing to do with how the body feels. I say live in mine for a few days. Ha ha. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning with a few more hunters coming into our area, setting up things for the Deer hunt, which starts on the first two weeks of November.

On another note, getting out of bed, I saw a lot of Robins seeking out them nice juicy worms throughout our lawn and gardens. They always seem to drop by on their way south for a day or so. It’s like they want to say goodbye for now. I thought I heard one say … “See You In The Spring”

Yesterday I worked in the house here on a Podcast which is live now. Today I will work on another for a while, while my shop is warming up. I have a one of a kind coffee table in the works that I would like to finish. I have the base cleaned up and old wash tub, and the top is glued up waiting to be sanded. So … lots of things to do if I want to do them.
With that, I am off for some homemade pancakes my lovely wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store. Take care.
