Here it is May 1st starting another month. Boy time sure flies by let me tell you. Or it sure seems that way. Starting things off, it is still pretty nice temperature wise in the early morning hours with the temperature sitting at 9.5 C | 49.1 F. It will warm up a lot as the day progresses. But the not so good part is we can expect some rain off and on for the next three days. Our temperatures should remain above the freezing mark at nights now for the rest of the summer. At least I hope they do as I am planning on turning on the water to our cottage and our out buildings today. That is, if I can beat the rain. Highway 522 is bare and dry at the moment, which will make travelling pretty nice today. There are a lot of campers moving into our area, along with a lot of cars and trucks I don’t recognize. Sign of what is to come.

On another note, my lovely wife and I worked all day outside yesterday. I dug and pulled out a huge pine tree and re-planted it in a spot where it can grow without bothering anything, like power lines, phone lines, and our driveway. It took a bit of doing, but we managed to get it moved. I kind of think I am getting a bit too old to be doing these things. At least my body says so. My mind now, it says go for it. Ha Ha.

We also cemented in a new post for our clothes line, as the old tree we had it hooked to isn’t in the greatest shape. We will see how that goes as I had a hard time getting a deep enough hole to put the post in being so close to the rocks at the back of our house. Might have to do some thinking on things if it doesn’t work. I will see when I go out this morning if the cement that I put around the post will hold it solid.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal this morning and a cup of coffee on our front porch with my little woman. It’s been quite nice out there for the past three days. No black flies as yet. The grass is starting to grow, and I suspect it will need mowing in about two weeks. Just one more thing to add to our weekly things to do. Have a great day, enjoy the sunshine while it lasts and stay safe. It’s amazing how many people are sick in our town. But It’s to be expected with hardly no one wearing masks or keeping their distance anymore. I for the life of me can’t see what the problem is in wearing a mask, LOL Keeps you safe, and protects you from all kinds of things … What can be better than that?

To start things off, we are having some sunshine this morning once again. Which feels mighty nice, to say the least. It did get down to the freezing mark overnight as our bird bath has some ice on it. And my garden hose is froze. Ha ha. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good. The temperature waking up was sitting at 0.8 C | 33.44 F. It will warm up nicely as the day moves forward. Which is good news as my wife and I are looking forward to the warmer temperatures. And with so many people being sick in our small community, the sunshine will help a lot in their recovery. That is, if they are able to get outside.

We are staying at home and only going to places if it is absolutely necessary. We also wear our masks going into stores and try hard to keep our distance. Some say it is just like a cold. That’s fine, but we don’t want to be sick from a cold, neither. And on top of all that, no one is exactly sure what the long term effects will be from catching the virus. And there are still over 20 some a day dying from it. I guess that doesn’t mean anything to some people. So …. My wife and I figure it’s better to be safe than sorry.

The ice on the lakes and streams has left us for another year, which is making the fishermen happy. I have seen a lot of cars and trucks towing boats moving up and down the highway these days. We also have seen a lot of campers moving into our area, which tells me people are wanting to get out of the cities. I can’t say I blame them. I am okay with that as long as they do things safely. No black flies to speak of, so far.

On another note, I worked all day in my woodworking shop yesterday on one of a kind hand made creations, that my wife wants for the re-opening of our gift shop at the end of May. We are planning on opening then, but we will see how this virus is around town, when the time comes and go from there. Today I will be heading out to my shop once again. I did light the shop stove a few minutes ago to take the chill off of things. My old body feels better when it is warm.

With that, I am off for some pancakes this morning and a cup of coffee that my lovely wife is making for me. We don’t usually have coffee till the afternoon, but today for some reason I feel like a cup or two. Enjoy your day and stay safe. GW

What’s Happening On April 28/2022

It’s a sunny morning waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario. However, it is a bit cool with some ice on top of my rain barrel. The temperature at the time of this post was sitting at 0.1 C | 32.18 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward, but it will still feel cold, even with the sunshine. I suspect if you can get out of the wind, you should be able to get some front porch sitting in later on. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good today. No snow overnight. Being so cold on my way to the shop this morning to light the stove, I heard a few Black Flies complaining how cold it is. It won’t be long though before they make an entrance. I have seen a lot of bug eating birds checking out my lawn the past few days. The White Crowned Sparrows and the Flickers are the best. Next to the Dragon-Flies. They are none stop eaters.

On another note, I decided to clean up my woodworking shop yesterday, which took me most of the day. Man … I am sure a Messy Marvin let me tell ya. But it is hard to keep a woodworking shop clean if you’re into making a lot of projects. Which I am doing these days. Lots of new one of a kind projects taken from my wife’s designs of many. She has an imagination that no other woman has, and she can come up with things that strike everyone’s interest.

Today I will get back to messing things up as my wife has some new things in mind for me to make. Take care and stay safe. I heard yesterday from friends of mine in Niagara that their whole family is really sick with this virus, along with friends of theirs. Brought home from kids at school along with the day care.

There are also quite a few that are sick here in town too. GW

It’s a snowy, cool morning here in Northern Ontario. We did have around 2 inches of snow through the night, as you can see in the picture above. Crazy weather for sure. But it is still April, and anything and everything can happen here in April. The snow won’t last long, though, as it will warm up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is bare but wet. Travelling will be good, other than a few deer here and there making their way across the highway. So care should be taken if out and about. We saw four last week, heading into town for groceries. We should also see a wee bit of sunshine later on today if we are lucky. No black flies yet in our area. Can’t say I blame them with this weather we are having.

On another note, I worked all day in the old woodworking shop yesterday on some projects for our gift shop that we will be re-opening at the end of May. At least that is the plan. We will see how this virus is doing when the time comes to open. I suspect it will be okay by then.

Today I will be working once again in the shop, which will keep me busy for most of the day. I did light the wood stove in there, which is getting things warmed up for me after I have my breakfast. Knowing that, I am off for a couple fried eggs, some bacon and a piece of toast that my lovely wife is preparing for me. Have a great day and stay safe. GW

What’s Happening On April 26/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperatures have cooled down some from Sunday, but it’s still not so bad. Getting out of bed, it was sitting at 4 C | 39.2 F. It will warm up as the day progresses. And by the looks of things, we should be in for a nice weekend. Time will tell. This time of year, you can expect almost anything. The black flies haven’t entered into the picture yet, which is okay with me. They usually start around Mother’s Day and last until around Father’s Day. We are also having some light showers this morning. Highway 522 is bare and wet, which will make travelling nice. Other than the gas prices. The ice on the lakes is pretty well all gone now. We have some friends on Caribou Lake, and they are visiting the cottage by boat this weekend to do a few things.

On another note, my wife and I have been really busy getting things ready to open our small gift shop at the end of next month. I have been busy making a few new items along with my lovely wife painting up a storm. Amazes me how she can whip things up. But then again, she has been painting for over fifty years. She is a great artist, that’s for sure. Her paintings have been purchased by folks from all over the world. Along with a lot from folks right here at home.

Today I will continue on working on a few projects I have on the go. Last Sunday I rolled our lawn which makes it really nice to walk on, along with helping out the grass, as with the soil heaving over the winter, so does the roots on things; Rolling puts things back to where they should be. It’s a job that no one sees. But it sure helps out nature. LOL

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast that my wife is preparing for me. Take care and stay safe. There are still a lot of people getting sick out there because of this virus. GW
