Morning Report Dec 14/19

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It has warmed up some with temperatures sitting at -5.1 C | 22.82 F. It will warm up a wee bit more, as the day progresses. We didn’t have any snow overnight. Highway 522 is bare for most parts, but it does have some snow covered areas. So care should be taken if travelling. Not too much happening around town. There is hardly no traffic these days to speak of. That happens when the tourists of summer leave us. Also, this time of year a lot of folks head off to the sunny south for winter, and others are off to do their Christmas and grocery shopping in the big cities. I have to admit that I enjoy heading off to places other than around our area now and then. It gives a fellow a whole new perspective of life, reminding me that there are other things happening in other parts of the world. Sometimes a person can get stuck in a rut, and when that happens its best to breathe some new air I always say and see new things. At any rate I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and then put some more wood in our furnace. With this weather we aren’t burning as much which is okay by me. Have a great day.

Morning Report Dec 13/19

Cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But in saying that temperatures aren’t as cold. Waking up they were sitting at -1.2 C | 29.84 F. The winds have changed from the North to the South so that in itself makes things more livable. Today things will warm up above the freezing mark which should clear off the Highways making it nicer for folks to do their Christmas shopping. Highway 522 at the moment is partially covered with some icy sections throughout. So … for now care should be taken if out and about. We did have around 2 inches (ca. 5 cm) of new snow overnight. I am hoping this warmer weather will melt it, so I don’t have to clean my driveway again. I would say we have around 8 to 10 inches (25.4 cm) of snow on the ground at the moment. Today I will be working around the house here I have some things to do for Christmas. With that I am off to put some wood in my furnace and then head on for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Hmm, maybe I should feed the birds first it looks like the feeder is getting down. Seems the more I put out there the more they eat. But I don’t mind we enjoy watching them. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec 12/19

Cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. No sunshine this morning. On the good side of things we didn’t have anymore snow overnight. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -12.8 C | 8.96 F. Wind is coming in from the North, North West which makes it feel colder than it really is. Temperatures today won’t rise much more than they are now. My wife and I did manage to get our driveway cleaned up yesterday, it took us most the morning. One thing is for certain. We don’t need any exercising equipment in our house. Highway 522 is partially covered with some icy sections. Yesterday was quite a day for snow with a total of around 8 inches (ca. 20 cm) on the ground as of now. There is another 3 inches (ca. 8 cm) or so expected today. The snowmobile folks will have a smile on their face now I bet LOL. Myself I prefer to stay in where it is warm, heading out into the cold doesn’t sound appealing to me one bit. But, to each their own, I always say. The good news is Jamie Mathews fixed up my furnace yesterday so it is working properly again. That fellow sure knows what he is doing let me tell you. If you are ever in need of a furnace man, he is the person to call. He doesn’t work on gas or propane though. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and then decide what I want to do today. There is always something to take up ones day it seems. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec 11/19

Well, it sure is one nasty morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Through the night we had around 8 inches (ca. 20 cm) of snow and it is still coming down. Kind of makes a feller want to go back to bed. But … I have to say it sure looks pretty out here. Then again … they also say beauty is in the eye of the beholder LOL. Highway 522 as most would suspect, is snow covered. The plows haven’t been through yet this morning. I guess when it eases off I will have to wake up my snowblower, so I can clean the driveway. The good thing is the snow is very light which will make cleaning up things not so bad. On another note, I have some problems taking place with my oil furnace with it not wanting to run right, so I called my fiend Jamie to have a look see. He is the fellow that looks after us folks around town when it comes to furnaces. Great fellow and does a good job. It’s not so bad though, as even though the oil furnace isn’t putting out any heat the wood furnace is. That’s the nice thing about wood heat, no matter how cold it gets you still have heat. In this country it is always best to have a back up. Actually it is always good to have a back up with everything in life. Eases the mind so to speak. So with that I am off for my morning cup of freshly brewed coffee with my lovely wife, and will see what mischief I can get into. Well … that is what my wife always says.

Morning Report Dec 10/19

Cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But the sunshine is trying to make an appearance. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -14.6 C | 5.72 F. Quite a difference from yesterday. There was no snow overnight, but we did have a heavy frost. We don’t have any snow on the ground as of today. Highway 522 is bare but it does have some icy sections throughout. So care should be taken if out and about. I suspect it will stay cool for the next two or three days then warm up a touch. Looking out my bird feeder is quite busy this morning, mostly Blue Jays coming for their morning feed. They sure are a greedy bunch let me tell you. They don’t even like their own kind much, chasing each other away. But such is Nature, survival of the fittest. Maybe us humans could learn from them. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, but first I will add a few sticks of wood to the furnace. Might cool in here this morning. A feller doesn’t realize just how cold it is in the house till his feet hits the floor in the morning. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec/9

It’s a not so great a day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada weather wise. At the moment we are having light showers with very cloudy skies. There is also some freezing rain in the forecast later on today, and more so this evening. I would think it is a good day to stay put and leave your shopping for a better day. But hey, who am I to say what you should be doing. Seems today folks have different ideas of how to deal with things. Highway 522 is bare but wet at the moment. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 2.2 C | 35.96 F. Today I will be continuing on with my story writing lots to do. I do enjoy writing and it amazes me in thinking like that, as you would think after writing for over 25 years or so, a feller would become tired of it. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. One just never knows. Have a good day. GW

Morning Report Dec 8/19

It’s a cloudy, windy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. On the good side of things it has warmed up a lot since yesterday. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -0.2 C | 31.64 F. It will get even warmer as the day moves forward. Throughout the day we could see some light flurries but if these temperatures stay like they are we will be getting more rain than snow. The lakes started to freeze over but that will be put on hold now for a few days with these warmer temperatures. Highway 522 is bare and wet this morning, so if you are in need of things in the big city of North Bay this is the day to do it. I am sure being so close to Christmas most have … some shopping to do. The good thing is North Bay has grown a lot in the last ten years with all the major stores entering into the picture. Which is good as folks now don’t have to drive hundreds of miles to get what they want or need. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec 7/19

Looking out the window here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning, the sun is shinning. But in saying that it is very cold, with temperatures sitting at -17.3 C | 0.86 F. Kind of makes a person want to stay in where it is warm. It’s nice though having the wood heat as just a couple pieces of hardwood keeps our home warm for two or three hours. Saves on the oil bill that’s for sure. Highway 522 is almost bare this morning, but there are some icy sections throughout. We should have sunshine for most the day. Tomorrow things will warm up considerably, and the snow should start to melt. Then back to colder weather. A roller coaster for a few days. We didn’t have any snow overnight. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and then will get into some story writing for my columns. Have a good day. GW

Morning Report Dec 6/19

The sun is shinning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning. No snow overnight. Yesterday we had around an 1 inch (2.54 cm) or so. Temperatures though are a bit cool sitting at -10.9 C | 12.38 F. The coldest morning so far this winter. It won’t warm up much neither. Along with that it will get really cold tonight, dropping to – 15 C / 4 F. A feller might have to put on an extra blanket or two. Highway 522 is bare with some icy sections throughout. Today I am going to be working on some computer things. I am trying to get caught up before Christmas with my story writing and things. I might go push a bit of snow by hand for some exercise a bit later, but I will have to think on that. With that I am off to put some more wood in our wood furnace and then enjoy a cup of freshly made coffee with my lovely wife. Great way to start the day. GW

Morning Report Dec 5/19

Good morning Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Cool morning waking up with temperatures sitting at -7.8 C | 17.96 F. I don’t suspect it will warm up much more than it is now. At any rate the sun is trying to break through the clouds, which when out will make the day just that much better. Every day is a good day, it’s just that some let the mind think differently, which can make a good day a bad day, where really it isn’t. Always strive to make a day better that is my motto. Highway 522 does have some icy sections, along with some snow covered areas, so care should be taken if out and about, especially early this morning. But they should get better as soon as the sun hits the pavement. We had about 1 inch (2.54 cm) of snow overnight. With that I am off to feed my wood furnace and pour myself a nice cup of freshly perked coffee, and then see what my wife has up her sleeve. She is the driver in my life, so to speak. Something like a hard drive in a computer, without it, the computer is nothing. LOL. Enjoy your day. GW

Morning Report Dec 4/19

We had a wee bit of snow here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada overnight. I would say about 2 inches (5.08 cm). And it is still snowing a bit this morning. Temperatures waking up weren’t as cold as they were yesterday which makes things a bit nicer. At the time of this post they were sitting at -0.5 C | 31.1 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is. Tonight it will get a lot colder. Highway 522 is snow covered this morning with a some icy sections throughout, so it isn’t going to be a great day for travelling. Seems the highways aren’t being taken care of like they used to be other years. Not much you can do, other than make sure you have food in the house so you don’t have to go to town for groceries that often. It’s been that way all my life so my wife and I are used to it. LOL With that I am off to put some wood in the old furnace. Normal thing every morning till spring. Have a great day and if driving take care … as the roads are slippery. GW

Morning Report Dec 3/19

Another pretty good morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning which makes things a wee bit nicer looking outside. We didn’t have any snow overnight, but we did have a heavy frost. The ground is frozen solid and the lakes are starting to freeze over. Yesterday I was outside helping my lovely wife with the Christmas decorations and when I went to open my door in my shed the ground had heaved and … well, I had to raise the door so it would open. There is always something to enlighten one’s day. LOL Temperatures are cold sitting at -12.6 C | 9.32 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry so travelling will be good today. We could see a bit of light snow tonight and into tomorrow but I don’t suspect it will amount to much. Then back so sunshine. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace and will carry on with my day, after I have a coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec. 2/19

We are having some sunshine here in Port, Loring, Ontario Canada this morning. Nice to see for a change. Seems no matter how cold it is outside if the sun is shinning, the better folks feel. Gives them the energy to get out and about and do things. I would have to say our bodies are governed by the weather. Highway 522 is bare and dry today with no snow overnight. The snow that we were supposed to get stayed south of us which is okay by me. Temperatures are cool though, and at the time of this post it was sitting at -8.4 C | 16.88 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. We should see lots of sunshine today and into tomorrow. I don’t see too much more snow for the remainder of the week. Great weather for folks to travel, or do some Christmas Shopping. Myself I will be working away here on the computer while my lovely wife puts up some Christmas Decorations inside and outside. She enjoys doing that. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. Maybe first I will put some wood in the old furnace, seems a touch cool in here at the moment. Have a great day!

Morning Post Dec 1/2019

Cloudy morning here in Port, Loring, Ontario, Canada. It is also quite cold with temperatures sitting at -9.2 C | 15.44 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry so far this morning. But things will change if the snow that is in the forecast heads our way. Just have to wait and see. There is a possibility of around 6 inches (15.24 cm) or so. Tomorrow though we are back to sunshine, and we should see a bit of it off and on for most the week. Which will make things great for travelling. It is getting close to Christmas, so I suspect there will be a lot of people on the highways for the next few weeks. The stores and checkouts will also be busy. Myself I don’t mind, as I enjoy watching folks spend their money LOL. With that I am off to put some wood in my furnace, and then will get back to my projects that I am working on. Oh! I forgot, I have to have my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife first. Have a great day. GW

Morning Post Nov 30/19

Another day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Man the last day of November with Christmas on the horizon. I sometimes wonder how time can move so fast, and then at times so slow. Could be an age factor. LOL Waking up this morning we are in the midst of clouds, but we should see some sunshine as the day progresses. Tomorrow though snow is in the forecast, and we could receive around 6 inches (15.24 cm) or so. If that turns out to be true I might have to wake up my snowblower. But we will see, what one says isn’t always the way things work out. Highway 522 is bare and dry today, so it will be good travelling weather. Temperatures waking up are a touch cool sitting at -9.7 C | 14.54 F. Myself I am working away here on a few projects putting my computer through its passes. I have a huge project to get finished, so if I am lucky things will be up and running before spring. Not complaining mind ya as it is nice to have things to do, especially things a person likes. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great weekend. GW

Morning Post Nov 29/19

Another cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We didn’t have any snow overnight which is okay by me. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -7 C | 19.4 F. It won’t warm up much more for the remainder of the day. Tonight will be even colder, but we shouldn’t see much more snow. The next snow in our area will probably be on Sunday. Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout this morning. Not too much traffic these days, mostly locals. If in need of some groceries this would be the day to head on in to North Bay. We could see a few flurries early this morning, but the sun should break through later on. We will see. Pretty dismal looking day out there at the moment. With that I am off to put some more wood in the furnace. Nice to be able to go downstairs where it is warm to feed it. I for the life of me can’t see having one of these outside ones. Constantly going outside in the cold. Not my cup of tea by no means. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Nov 28/19

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. On the good side of things we didn’t have any snow overnight to speak of and it isn’t raining today. We did have our share of rain yesterday though. Things have also cooled down some with temperatures at the time of this post sitting at -5.1 C | 22.82 F. The wind is coming out of the north which makes it feel colder outside than it really is. Such is life for us humans, as all is not as it really is sometimes. LOL Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning so travelling should be pretty good. We should see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. Nice weather should remain with us up till Sunday where we could see six inches of snow. So enjoy things while you can. Today I will work away here on my computer as I have a bunch of things to do. It is nice to have a warm home with food to eat. I sometimes think certain folks don’t really appreciate what they do have. It’s not all about money, but … in saying that, money does help. We made it that way. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Nov 27/19

It’s a rainy, windy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the time of this post were sitting at 1.6 C | 34.88 F. Highway 522 at the moment is bare and wet. Things could change anytime now with the rain changing over to ice or snow. At the moment temperatures are fluctuating so no one really knows what is in store. But on the good side of the coin we didn’t have any snow overnight, meaning I don’t need to wake up my snowblower. All the snow we did have has melted and looking out the grass is green. There is still an ice and snow warning up for our area. I would think it is a good day to stay home if you can do so. Travelling won’t be the greatest. Myself I have some things to do around the house here which will keep me busy most of the day. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will let the day unfold around me. You just never know what a day has in store for us humans.

Morning Post Nov 26/19

Cloudy morning waking up in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We could see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. Tomorrow though is another story as we could get some snow with risk of freezing rain. There are warnings up for our area. In reality, it will depend on temperatures and direction. So we will see. This morning it isn’t bad temperature wise sitting at 4.3 C | 39.74 F. It will remain there most of the day. Highway 522 is bare and dry which will make travelling pretty good today. Yesterday my lovely wife and I went to North Bay had lunch with our son and picked up a few things that we were in need of. Seems it takes a full day to go to town no matter what you do. North Bay is getting busy these days with more folks moving into the area, along with new stores and business’s opening all the time. Which is a good thing I suppose. With that I am off for some buttermilk pancakes and a cup of fresh perked coffee. I know … I have it tough, but such is life. LOL Have a great day. GW

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. This coming Wednesday we could have some really not so good weather with up to 6 inches (15.24 cm) of snow and high winds entering into the picture also. So I would think if you need anything in town today and tomorrow are the days to do it. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 0.2 C | 32.36 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry. Today I will continue on with some work I am doing around the house here. Other than that will take things a bit easy today. Have a great day.
