Happenings Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Cold morning here waking up. Temperatures were sitting at                      -20.5 C | -4.9 F.  Sun is shining though which helps some.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, possible snow early.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with hard packed snow but travelling should be OK if care is taken.  The Ploughs have been through.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying the best times to be out there will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well we had around six inches of new snow yesterday so I am warming up the snow blower so it can do what it needs to do.  I usually clean it by hand but being so cold and the snow being a touch hard, thinking this will be the best approach to what has to be done.   There is a limit of what an older feller can do and the secret to that is knowing ones limits.  So my friends, as said before, but still important.  Try and get outside for a few minutes taking in some fresh northern air and let the sun sink into your skin on your face.  Better than any flu shot bar none.   In closing I would like to wish you well.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  So colder morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -19.9 C | -3.82 F.  But the sun is shinning which makes the mind and body accept things better.

Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later as the day moves forward.  The cold will be with us for most the week and snow should be at a minimum.   OK by me.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with light snow with some icy sections through out.  Care should be taken if travelling.  But if care is taken no reason why you can’t get to where you want to go.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick along with gathered data from Grandfathers chest of goodies, is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then once again from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Not much to report on this fine Sunday morning.  Just lit the wood furnace as  we didn’t have it going yesterday being so mild.  Nothing quite like wood heat to make the old bones feel comfortable. My old Dad used to say that wood heat not only warms the body but warms the heart.  He might have something there for some folks, others though I found it would take quite a bit of wood to do that job.  HA HA.  Looking out this morning with the sun shinning on the trees kind of makes getting out of bed all worth while.  Taking in the fresh northern air while feeding the birds seems to fill ones body with strength.  So what could be better?  Not much.  The day is there waiting.  It is totally up to you on how it pans out.  Tea time here.  You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Things has warmed up a touch more this morning.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -0.7 C | 30.74 F.

Forecast For Today:  Freezing Drizzle Advisory in effect for:

North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
West Nipissing – French River & Port Loring.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is mostly snow covered after yesterdays weather along with some icy sections throughout.  Travelling today will remain poor all day with this freezing rain that is upon us now.

Ice Fishing Times;  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from11:30 AM – 3:30 PM. I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  In-spite of the rain it will be a great day for fishing.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well there are a few events and things happening.  If you click on the flyers I put up yesterday, they will show all that is taking place.  On another note my wife and took a drive into North Bay yesterday, going in roads were bare and dry.  On the way home it was another story.  In some areas I could hardly see the highway.  But with this Ford we have now weather isn’t really an issue, if one drives to conditions.  Great vehicle to say the least.  And why shouldn’t it be, made right here in Ontario Canada.  Stores in North Bay were swamped with folks out and about.  Kind of makes me wonder if anyone works on Fridays, other than the folks that work in the stores.  Waiting times in line ups were endless in some places of business. Reason behind this, is that folks are saving a bit with the gas prices being down. My old Dad said that if you put money into a working man’s pocket he will spend it.  If these gas prices stays down and goes even lower, store owners will thrive even more.  Will they stay down? Not likely, as even now they are thinking of adding some more carbon tax.  Crazy way of thinking but then again it is all about money in this world today, not about ones well being, like the working man or woman.  So I ranted enough here this morning, which I like doing now and then.  Tea time here and see what the day brings us.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Town

Good Morning:  Well not as cold here in Port Loring this morning.  Cool but not that cod stuff we been having.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -2.4 C | 27.68 F.

Forecast For Today:  Could see some snow later on this afternoon.  If things warm up a bit more the snow could turn to rain or sleet.  So if out and about care should be taken.

Highway Report: Highway 522 is bare for most parts but does have some hard packed areas.  But that should clear out with the temperatures we are having at the moment.  OK by me.

Ice Fishing Times: This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:00 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 4:45 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Great day for pulling them in.  Good Luck!

Events & Things For Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well another very cold morning. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -28.5 C | -19.3 F.  Not quite as cold as yesterday but still cold.

Forecast For Today: Unsettled, short fine intervals throughout the day. With the sunshine temperatures will warm up a bit later on this morning.  Should be a very nice day.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 has some bare sections along with some hard packed snow sections.  Care should be taken, but should be a great day for travelling, for those that choose to do so.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick along with gathered data is saying the best times to be out there will be from 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again a bit later on from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town.  Yesterday a friend called that reads the Blog each morning.  He has a cottage out near Lost Channel.  He says the ice and things getting to his cottage was great.  So looks like the snowmobiles will be enjoying themselves for the remainder of the season. I would like to thank him for saying hello.    Great to see folks out an about taking in what Nature has to offer.  Nothing can be more beneficial to ones health than staying active and breathing in our fresh northern air.  So my friends, enjoy your day and stay warm. I am heading off for a talk-a-tea with my lovely wife.. Every morning we get to chattin’, and you know…we are good at it.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at; [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well a pretty nice day temperature wise.  Waking up it was sitting at      0.6 C | 33.08 F.  Should remain there most the day.

Forecast For Today: Stormy, may improve as the day moves forward.

Highway Report:   Highway 522 is pretty well covered with hard packed snow with icy sections throughout.  Care should be taken if travelling.  Snowplough just went by the house here clearing off some of the slush.

Ice Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then again from 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  No reason not to be having fish for supper.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Quiet events and business wise.  On another note though.  With this warm weather that is upon us today, it gives a person a great chance to do some outside work that might be in need of some attention.  Myself I am going to take advantage of it and wash our car as it is a mess.  One trip to North Bay sure takes a toll on it.  Good to get the salt and things off it whenever you can.  Also I have found if a person washes the disc brakes off as many times as they can, when arriving back home, it sure saves on the brake jobs. I would say just by doing that you would cut the replacements in half.  Today the cars have everything right out in the open, where the salt and dirt can get right at them  Food for thought one might say.  Enjoy your day my friends and if nothing else try and get out for a bit of fresh air.  Tomorrow we are back to the cold temperatures.   You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In An Around Port Loring

Good Morning:  Well a touch cool waking up here in Port Loring.  Temperatures were sitting at -17.7 C | 0.14 F.

Forecast For Today: Changeable, mending. More snow on the way for tomorrow.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:45 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later on from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Great day to be out there.  Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with hard packed snow, ploughs have been through, but there are some icy sections that one should keep an eye out for.  Other than that it will be a great day for travelling.

Around Town:  Very quiet around town.  Folks are taking life easy.  At least for those that are still here, as a lot have moved on to the sunny south for a few months.  Can’t say I blame them.  The only hold back would be the dollar being so low. But the bright side is that the gas prices are much lower than last year and the trip down to say Florida and back, would cost next to nothing.  So one should still make out pretty good.  Also a lot of places I see are taking Canadian money at par which is a great attraction for those thinking of getting away.  Motels along the way are quite reasonable with prices ranging from $40.00 a night to $75.00 a night.  Not to bad if you consider what they are here in Canada and that most comes with a continental breakfast.  One just has to seek them out.  So my friends I have always said this.  If you have the funds why not bring a little pleasure to your life and make things happen.  My wife and I do when ever we can.  Life is short.  Enjoy your day my friends, stay safe and warm and try and get out and breath in some of that fresh Northern air, or…warm Florida air.  Do you a world of good.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at;  [email protected]

Around Town

Good Morning:  Well warmed up quite a bit through the night.  This morning temperatures were sitting at -7.7 C | 18.14 F.  Will be short lived though as colder air moves in for tomorrow.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy, Snow squall watch in effect for:                                      North Bay –  Port Loring – Powassan – Mattawa
West Nipissing – French River.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is still covered throughout with hard packed snow.  There are also some icy sections to watch for.  If the snow makes it’s way into our area as is called for travelling will not be good.  So care should be taken if out and about.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then once again a bit later on from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Can’t get any better than that.  Good luck!

Around Town:  Well I figure we are in for some more snow, as I have my driveway all cleaned out.  Seems as soon as I get things cleared up more is about to fall.  Not complaining mind ya, as I do enjoy getting outside and taking in what nature has to offer.  Also keeps a feller fit which is what is needed this time of year.  One has to watch, as they can become house bound.  If that happens one begins to feel poorly.  The body needs to be worked, without it one just shrivels up and well the inevitable will take place.  We are very lucky here in Port Loring.  We have fresh air, lots of places for one to walk or do things.  Exercise is right outside your door my friends, free of charge, take advantage of it.  You body will thank you for it.  Even 15 minutes a day walking around the outside of your house, breathing in the fresh air will do the trick.   Good Nutrition, Exercise, Lots of Good Water Without Chemicals and Fresh Air, they are what is needed.  Enjoy your day my friends.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In & Around Town

Good Morning:  Warmed up a touch through the night.   One though would still need a shirt on going outside with temperatures waking up sitting at -15.9 C | 3.38 F.  But a lot better than that minus 30 stuff.

Forecast For Today.  Starting off we will see s bit of sunshine and then we will see snow with some very unsettled weather.  Kind of think it was due as my driveway is all cleaned out now.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is covered with hard packed snow along with some icy sections throughout.  Travelling should be fair early this morning.

Ice Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:30 AM – 9:45 AM.  Then once again from 2:30 PM – 4:45 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Should be a good day for putting fish in the frying pan come supper.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Here in Port Loring not much is happening in the way of things.  I see gas prices are still down, which in my mind is where they should be.  Only thing that isn’t down is furnace oil, or at least in our neck of the woods. Oh it is down some, but no change since late summer of last year.  Kind of makes a fellow wonder what is going on in that department.  The old trend was, that we live so far back in that we had to pay extra for the trucking and things to get products brought in to us.  Today though that isn’t really an issue as most companies have their route set up and if your on it, your on it.  Also over the past few years there has been a lot of folks raising their prices on other items saying it was because of the gas prices being so high.  Do you think now they will drop their prices back to where it once was?  I suspect not, as once the price has been initiated it is there to stay. So what can we do?  Shop around my friends and don’t be afraid to let folks know your feelings.  At the very least, you are entitled to that.    My opinion only.  You can reach George Walters if you so wish at; g[email protected]

Happenings Around Town

Good Morning:  Well cold morning waking up here in Port Loring Ontario.  Temperatures were sitting at -34.8 C | -26.24 F.

Forecast For Today:  Fairly fine, improving with lots of sunshine moving into the area.  Will remain cold throughout the day warming up a touch for tomorrow.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 has been ploughed but is covered with hard packed snow throughout.  There are icy sections so care should be taken if travelling.

Ice Fishing Times;  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck.

Around Town:  With this cold most folks are staying inside.  Coldest day of the year is upon us this morning.  The long range though calls for some cold weather but not as severe as today.  Which is OK by me.  Seems the older I get the less I like the cold.  The sunny south say Florida has a bit more appeal to it.   On another note that was quite a snow fall we had the day before yesterday. I would say we had almost a foot and even more  in some locations.  Took me the best part of the morning to get the driveway cleaned up.  Didn’t need to go for a walk for any exercise after that.  Today being so cold I will work on some inside projects. Now heading off for a turmeric tea. Very good for what ails ya.  Try one sometime.   So my friends, stay warm and safe.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Weather, Ice Fishing Times & Happenings

Around Town: Quiet, not much to report on this find Monday morning.  Myself I got a pile of snow to move from the driveway which in turn should give me the exercise which is needed.  And then some.  Seems this year I just get it cleaned out and have to do it again.  I’m ready for spring.  Enjoy your day my friends, stay warm and safe.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Forecast For Today: Stormy, much snow.  As of 8:33 AM EST Sunday 11/2015 there is a snow squall watch in effect, once again.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is still snow covered throughout with a lot of icy sections. Care should be definitely be taken if travelling.

Fishing Times:  Well some lakes are froze over now but care should be taken if out as thee are areas that aren’t safe.  There have been reports of one incidence where a machine went through.  No injuries was stated. Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for pulling a few in.  Stay safe and good luck.

Some very good friends of ours in  Panama City Beach Florida said at the moment they were having some cool weather, but still a lot warmer than what we are experiencing. I suspect it be back to warm temperatures shortly. It is nice in the sunny south.  I haven’t found a nicer place in the winter where I would sooner be.   So my friends, have a great day an stay safe and warm.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Events & Things In And Around Town

Good Morning Folks:   Well not as cold here in Port Loring this morning.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -22.2 C | -7.96 F.  Didn’t have any significant snow fall through the night.

Forecast For Today:   Unsettled, probably improving as the day moves forward.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is packed with hard snow pretty well from Highway 11 to Highway 69.  There is quite a few icy sections so care should be taken.

Fishing Report:  Well ice should be pretty good for ice fishing in some places with all these cold temperatures.  Others where the water runs fast care should be taken.  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a two fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Good Luck and stay safe.

Around Town:  My wife and I took a drive to North Bay yesterday for a few supplies and things.  Roads were quite slippery but nothing that our Ford couldn’t handle with ease.  Love that 4 wheel drive.  We stopped at some friends for an hour or so who lives way back in where the snowploughs doesn’t travel that often.  But again the Ford Edge out did itself in some pretty drastic conditions.  I was amazed.  In town it was quite busy, even though the roads weren’t that good.  Stores were packed, folks were buying, even the restaurants were lined up.  We had to wait for a half hour at Swiss Chalet for a table.  But it was worth it, as the meal we had with our son Karl was great.  I like their chicken pot pies. Comes with a nice salad and a roll.  Price was reasonable at around $10.00   Even better for wife & I as our son Karl paid the bill at the end of the day.  Even had a nice Chocolate Sunday for desert.  I highly recommend you try one if you are feeling like a treat. You won’t be disappointed.  Had a great day with our son, got our supplies with other items of choice and got back home safe.  Can’t get much better than that.  So my friends you all have a great day.  Keep warm.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Weather, Fishing Times & Happenings

Good Morning.  Well not to bad of a morning.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at -10.2 C | 13.64 F.

Forecast For Today: Stormy, with snow.  But we could see a glimmer of sunshine if luck materializes. Tonight though will get pretty cold down to -23 C / -9 F.  Tomorrow will also be quite cold and remain cold.  So if I might suggest.  This would be the day to clean up any outside work.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Then once again from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the North North East and at the moment it is calm.  It will pick up quite a bit later on, which in turn should lighten up some of the branches of our huge pines.  Amazing how much they can hold without breaking.

Highway Report:   Highway 522 from Highway 11 in, has some icy sections with a bit of slushy snow here and there.  From Highway 69 in there is quite a few snow covered areas along with some icy sections throughout.  Care should be taken if out travelling.

Around Town:  Not much on the go here today.  I do have to clean the end of our driveway out a touch, where the snowplough so nicely piled some for me.  But other than that not so bad.  Will give me some exercise at the least, along with some fresh air.  I did bring in a touch more firewood for this new wood furnace of ours, in speculation of it getting colder.  A bit extra on hand is always nice to have on hand. I also got a small electric log splitter for Christmas and have it in the firewood room.  I have to say I am in love again.  Sure makes short work out of the large pieces.  Not that I mind burning them but with this new furnace the large ones aren’t needed anymore, as one large one split, lasts twice as long now.  Also with low ceilings one can’t get a good swing using an axe, so there is a safety factor there also. Now when going down to feed the furnace it is a pleasure.  Kind of look forward to it.  So guess I will head on off to the kitchen as my lovely wife has a tea ready for me.  Do some chattin’ as we both are really good at that.  Solve the problems of the world and see where the day brings us.  Enjoy your day my friends, stay safe and warm.  You can reach me George Walters at    [email protected]

Weather, News, & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well waking up this morning it wasn’t quite as cold as yesterday.  Temperatures were sitting at -9.4 C | 15.08 F.

Forecast For Today:  There is no warnings up to speak of but, if data serves me right we could see some nasty weather move into Port Loring & District.  As of now there is a huge storm moving into the Niagara area.  Could be rain, could be ice or it could be snow. Depends on how the temperatures fluctuate throughout the day.  Same goes for us here in Port Loring.  At any rate extra care should be taken if out driving a bit later on today.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:00 AM – 8:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later on from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 this morning and a 3 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon for catching a few.

Highway Report:  As of now Highway 522 is bare for most parts coming in from Highway 11 but it does have some snow covered areas here and there.  Coming in from Highway 69 there is lots of icy sections and and some snow covered areas.  Again.. care should be taken if out and about.

Around Town:  Not much happening here in Port Loring these days.  Think folks are hibernating like the bears.  In some respects can’t say I blame them.  But one does need fresh air and getting outside now and then will do ones body a world of good.  Myself I get quite a bit of exercise shovelling the driveway, as if at all possible, I try and do it by hand.  Gets the old adrenalin moving through ones veins.   On another note I see Gas Prices took a huge drop over the holidays. Was a great treat for those travelling here and there.  Yesterday in North Bay at the Esso you could get it for 82 cents a litre.   I suspect it will remain there for awhile too by the looks of things.  No reason in my eyes it shouldn’t be even lower.  Not in our country where most of it comes from.  All about money.  So my friends enjoy your day, stay safe and try and get outside for a bit, your body will thank you for it.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Weather, FIshing Times & Information

Good Morning: Cold morning here in Port Loring.  Ice at the bottom of our windows.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -20.4 C | -4.72 F.  Will remain there most of the day.

Forecast For Today: Rather unsettled clearing later.  We do have a touch of sunshine here now which makes things not so bad.  It will warm up a wee bit for the weekend but after that things are going to get really cold for a few days.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again a bit later from 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the South West and at the moment calm.  They will pick up some later on this morning.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is pretty well all snow covered with some icy sections throughout.  The snowploughs are out though and the roads are clear in that respect.  Travelling should be OK if care is taken.  Myself I prefer to drive on hard snow instead of all that slush.  Saves the under-body of the cars and trucks.   Also makes for easier driving.  But to each their own.

Around Town:  Very quiet is the norm for this time of year.  Myself I am working on inside work for most parts.  Got some snow to remove after a bit but not going to rush into anything.  Life is what you make it and I choose to take mine easy.  So my friends, enjoy your day, stay safe and warm.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Weather, Fishing Times & Things

Good Morning & Happy New Year.  Well we are starting off the new year here in Port Loring with around 6 inches of snow which fell over night.  Winter wonderland out there this morning.  Just beautiful. Temperatures did warm up a touch through the night and at the moment it is sitting at   -5.6 C | 21.92 F.  Will remain there most of the day.

Forecast For Today: Stormy, much snow.  We also will have some high winds which will make things much more challenging if out driving.  I suspect after looking at things we will get another 2-4 inches; drifts will be also a major factor.   Especially for those with long driveways.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is snow covered in all areas.  From Highway 11 straight through to Highway 69.  Not a great day to be out driving.  But for the snowmobiles it is a dream come true.

Fishing Times: This morning the old weather stick and gathered data is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then a bit later on from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the West at around 10 MPH.

Around Town:  Well this morning I haven’t seen one car moving up and down the Highway.  With this weather I can’t say I blame anyone neither.  For my wife and I we are going to sit back and let nature take her course.  Nice to be able to do that at this time in life.  But it wasn’t always that way.  We were like most working from 6 in the morning to after dark at night.  Never letting up for a minute.  Pretty well all my life I have been self employed which in my mind is a great life style.  Never took one cent from the government no matter how sick or injured I was.  Not in me to do that.  At any rate we all choose our own roads.  Some are wrong some are right. For you my friends I hope you take the right road and what better time of year to start things off.   Happy New Years my friends.  Stay safe and keep warm.  You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]
