George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning.  Well a really nice looking day thus far.  Temperatures are sitting at….     17 C | 62.6 F.  Will warm up to where it was yesterday a bit later on. Forecast for today is calling for it to be….Stormy, much rain later on in the day and into tomorrow and Tuesday even. Going to get some rain which in reality is needed.  Amazing how things dry out so quickly.  Reason being it is mostly sandy soil in our area.  Mother nature looks after her own.  We as humans think we are so powerful, but if truth be known we are smaller than a gnat compared to our Mother…Earth.   Makes me smile when the so called Powers That Be….say. “This is the way it’s going to be.”

Bug Report:  Well…Black Flies and Mosquitoes are out in full force preying upon us warm blooded critters.  They aren’t real fussy neither, be it horses, dogs, cats, birds, deer or humans.  All a spring feast to them.  At any rate each day moves forward towards the end of the Black Flies and hoping the Mosquitoes fill their appetite and leave us humans alone a bit.  Of course then we have the horse flies and deer flies, along with the no see flies coming into the picture.  Kind of just have to take them one at at time.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick, along with Grandfathers Formula, says that the best times to be out there fishing will be from 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM.  Then once again from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating for catching them early, with a 2 fish rating out of 4 later on in the day.  So not the greatest day for fishing, but as I always say…One just never knows when that big old Walleye might take a notion to have a snack.  Good luck!

Around Town:  Quiet here in town this morning.  Once again hardly a car going up or down Highway 522.  You know that tells me folks are staying home enjoying their time with their families.  Seems like a modest thing one can do.  Don’t you think?  My family lives so far apart, makes it a bit hard to communicate, but when we do see each other we make up in the Hug department let me tell ya.

Below I have added a couple flyer’s which might be of interest to folks.  Especially those looking for groceries in our area.  Click Flyer to enlarge…ltss-0353 ltss-0354

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying the best times to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.

Bug Report:  Well Black Flies and Mosquitoes are out in full force to say the least.  Hard to get away from the Mosquitoes as they seem to like it anywhere.  Should have another couple weeks of the Black Flies and then they should be gone for the year.  Lets hope so any-ways.

News Around Town:  Quiet on this fine day.  Hardly a car moving up and down the highway.  Thinking everyone is sleeping in this morning.  Stores have been brisk with sales for most parts and should pick up even more as the tourists make their yearly transition to our area.  Cottages are being opened up for the year, along with day trippers on the rise.  Our store has been doing quite well this year with double the customers dropping in for a visit.  Good to see folks.  In our store this year we have a good quantity of new Native American Flutes and I am actually in the process of making a bunch more.  If your interested in buying a Flute drop by and I will give you a full demonstration on how they work.  Quite easy to learn actually.  Nice thing is, you don’t have to be able to read music to play them.  On another note my wife Ruth is steadily painting signs for folks with orders backing up.  Along with that she has her own paintings in the works and will soon be displaying numerous ones in our store for those that would like to purchase them.  Amazing artist this woman of mine. Happenings In and Around Port Loring

Good morning. Well another nice day is upon us. Temperatures are sitting at….16.7 C | 62.06 F waking up this morning.  Forecast for today is calling for it to be…Unsettled, short fine intervals throughout the day.  Could see a passing thunder storm caused by temperatures warming up to near 26 C / 78 F later on.

Bug report is same as it has been for the past few days.  Lots of black flies to say the least.  Mosquitoes aren’t pestering too many folks as of yet, but that will change as temperatures warm up.  Hoping they aren’t as bad this year pertaining to the cool spring we had.  There again one just can’t be sure what Mother Nature has in store for us humans.

For those just itchin’ to get out there and do some fishing today, the old weather stick is saying the best time will be from 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them starting around 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM.  Should be able to put a fish or two in the frying pan for supper.

Enjoy your day my friends.  GW

Happenings In and Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning.  Well once again we have a nice day upon us here in Port Loring.  Gives one a sense of being you might say, the day being so nice.  On the bug report the Black Flies are enjoying themselves immensely these days, making folks exercise their arms and hands.  Some even get into dancing a bit I seen while down at the store yesterday.  Temperatures today are sitting at….13.8 C | 56.84 F and will warm up to near 21 C / 70 F again today.  Will be a really nice day for soaking up some sunshine which your body is craving for to stay healthy.  Myself I got a few cords of firewood to pile which will give me the exercise that is needed to get my body in shape for the summer.  Could never figure out why anyone would need to go to these exercise places and pay all that money, when all one would have to do is head on out the garden or park and do what ever.   The best exercises is working in the garden, walking, hiking, bike riding, piling firewood and deep breathing and there is no better place than right here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada, to do these things.  We got it all. Put them all together with a good life style and proper nourishment and…well…you got it all.  As my old Dad would say, No Brag…Just Fact!  Of course one can’t forget fishing to console ones inner being, which most needs with all the turmoil we have to deal with these days.  There is no better place for this procedure to take place than right here amongst our waterways with Mother Natures arms wrapped around you.  For those wanting to head on out today and jerk a few lips the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from. 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM then once again from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM and again one more time from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Through the day I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4.  The latter I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  So today my friends you have many options which to choose from.  Good luck.

Forecast for today is calling for it to be…Changeable,  but mending as the day progresses.  Enjoy your day my friends.  GW
