George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

What’s Happening In Port Loring

Good morning. Well had some rain through the night and into this morning.  Much needed to say the least.  Think my gardens grew six inches over night.  Temperatures this morning are sitting at…19.3 C | 66.74 F.

Forecast Today: Stormy, much rain.

Bug Report: Lots of Mosquitoes out there today but rain is holding off the Blackflies somewhat.  Seems the rain doesn’t bother them mosquitoes one bit.  Blood sucking parasites! My old Dad used to say.

For those wanting to do some fishing today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM then again from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 2 1/2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good luck with that.

News Around Town:  Nothing much to report here this morning.  All is quiet.  But things are gearing up for the nicer weather this weekend.  Enjoy your day my friends.  GW

Things Happening In & Around Port Loring

Good morning. Well a bit cloudy waking up. Forecast for today is calling for it to be…Stormy, much rain off and on throughout the day.  So we will see.  We could use some, as things are quite dry, even after such a wet spring.  Temperatures are sitting at..17.1 C | 62.78 F.  Will warm up a few more degrees as time marches on.

Bug Report:  Same as yesterday really. Blackflies and Mosquitoes have become quite annoying.  But as I announced yesterday, that the dragonflies have returned, so should make short work of them in the coming days.

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to do some fishing today, the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then a bit later from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.   I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  So should be a good day for catching them.

Around Town:  Quiet this morning but will pick up in a bit.  Tourists are moving back in a little at time.  Blackflies are keeping a lot of campers and cottage owners at bay. But once they are gone folks will make their way to their favourite camp ground, resort or cottage.  Good to see them coming back each year. Could say I miss them.

On another note Trash and Treasures is open for another season.  Lots of great items for sale and a must see, if in the area.  Doris is back and it is always nice to see her.  This lady has done so much for our community behind the scenes more than one can imagine and should be commended on her actions.  Great Lady for sure.  You can say hello to her at Trash & Treasures most days throughout the week.  So why not drop by and say hello, along with that,ltss-0356 you will be supporting our Local Fire Department.  For all the information relating to Trash & Treasures Hours of Business click the following Flyer to Enlarge.  Enjoy your day my friends. ADHD

What is your views on ADHD..  Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. That was a question I was asked.

First off let me tell you this.  I don’t believe there is any reason what’s so ever, for prescribing drugs for children with their so called ADHD drugs.  If a child has a problem of not communicating with the teacher or whom ever or causing a bit of a problem in class, usually it is because they are bored. If the teacher can’t control the children then they should be sent home and their parents notified of what is happening and let the parents fix the problem. Drugs should not be not be brought into the picture what’s so ever.  Also our Powers That Be should be taking steps to make the classes interesting enough to keep the children wanting to go to school.  You are always going to have a bully or some one that causes a bit of trouble.  They are kids, they crave attention and to get attention will go to any lengths. We as adults should see this.   A lot of children comes from broken homes, not an easy way of life on a child’s view of things.  I know, I came from a broken home.  Had all kinds of different folks looking after me, until one couple took the time to help me get my mind back on the straight and narrow.  I was probably one of those young ones that would be a candidate for these so called prescription drugs today.  Thing was I made out OK in life, without them.  Also… there is no scientific proof of what these drugs will do to the young ones mind later on down the road.  Seems to me that the Powers That Be today are trying to fix everything with drugs these days.  The more zombie us humans becomes the better it is for those that want control.  Altering a child’s mind with drugs is not the answer.  My Opinion Only

Dragonflies Have Arrived

Well update to the Blog here.  Dragonflies have made their appearance a few minutes ago.  9:30 AM to be exact, at least that’s when they dropped by our home for a visit. They have landed you might say, as I just finished my cup of Dandelion Tea on the back deck and one landed on my arm while I was soaking up some sunshine.  Sat there for a few minutes looked at me and said…. “I am back my friend, I will now get to tending to them Blackflies and and Mosquitoes.  Great to see their arrival, as one of their main preys is Blackflies.  Enjoy & Protect  them my friends.  GW
