George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Information In & Around Town

Good morning. Well not so bad of a morning.  Temperatures are sitting at..                    11.9 C | 53.42. F.  Forecast for today is saying it is going to be. Stormy, much rain as the day marches on.  So we will see.  Some sunshine is showing itself as I type but clouds are moving in.  Looks like some showers for the next couple days.  On the good side though it is warming up and temperatures will be up near 70 F / 20 C all week.  So summer weather will be upon us.  Great news for those wanting to open up the cottages this weekend. My wife and I like to think of this coming weekend as the long weekend.  I kind of figure the Powers That Be can make the dates of the holiday weekends, but it doesn’t mean i have to abide by them.  In reality it is up to each individual which road they choose to follow.  One should never be dictated to on what and when to do things.  My opinion only of course. For them pesky Black Flies, well they made their appearance yesterday. Not to bad, yet… but they are there with their annoying presence.  Once the dragon flies makes their appearance things will change in that department, as they clean them up quite quickly.  One of humans best friends.  For those wanting to do some fishing today the best time to be out there will be from 8:30 AM till 11:00 AM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 4 for catching them today.  Best to get out there before the rain moves in and good luck.   Enjoy your day my friends.  GW

Well a bit cloudy this morning with temperatures sitting at                            10.4 C | 50.72 F.  Not too bad.  Forecast for Port Loring is calling for it to be Showery early, improving as the day moves forward.  Black flies are just starting but still quite good considering the time of year.  Been so cool and wet holding things back a bit.

Wi-Fi Services In Our Canadian Parks

I see in the news today that Wi-Fi  will be added to our Canadian Parks agenda and formats.  For all the information click the following link    http://time.com/80472/canada-wifi-national-parks/    Will this be a good thing?  Some will say it is, for myself I am against Wi-Fi services, as I believe they are not good for ones health, or for that matter, the health of nature in itself.  Like other things that goes on in our country and others, these things are just done without considering what it does to our body or our environment..  My Opinion only.  GW

Here is a bit of interesting information.  Relating to stores that are closing in part.  Pretty amazing really but understandable.  Take a look.

Staples, Radio Shack, Albertsons, Abercrombie & Fitch, Barnes & Noble, J.C. Penney, Toys “R” Us, Sweetbay Supermarket, Loehmann’s, Sears, Quiznos, Sbarro. Other retailers in trouble include Ruby Tuesday’s, Red Lobster (which could be spun off into another brand altogether) and Ralphs, a subsidiary of food seller Kroger.
