Happenings In & Around Port Loring

Good Morning:  Cloudy day here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 16.6 C | 61.88 F.

Forecast For Today: Unsettled, probably improving as the day moves forward.  Sunshine will re-enter into the picture tomorrow.  Might see a wee  bit of sunshine later on in the day if we are lucky.  Thinking more clouds than sunshine along with a few showers.  Temperatures will also remain a touch cooler. Makes it nice for sleeping and working if the urge hits.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet from east to west.  Lots of deer and moose roaming the highway  so care should be taken.  Also seen a few turtles.   They like to lay their eggs along side of the highway as the pavement when hot keeps their eggs warm.  So please if you see one trying to cross the road slow down and go around.

Bug Report:  Lots of blackflies these days irritating folks along with the mosquitoes.   It’s a norm for this time of year.  Good idea to brush yourself off before going into the house as they like to hide in ones clothing.  Don’t need them biting you in the night while trying to sleep.

Fishing Report:  This morning the old weather stick along with my Grandfathers formula says that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then once again later on this afternoon from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.   Winds this morning are quite breezy coming in from the North West at around 5 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Stores and other places are a touch slow.  But that is to be expected this time of year.  Resorts are getting things cleaned up readying for the upcoming season.  Lots of work goes into keeping them suitable for folks to stay in.  Myself I have been busy working away on my boat getting things cleaned up for the fishing season.  Looking forward to getting out there once the blackflies have had their way with us humans and critters.   Few more weeks to go yet then should be rid of them for another year.  Gardens I planted a week ago are slowly edging upwards.  Thinking we had enough rain now for a spell which will speed them along a bit.  Nice to watch things mature through the first few months after planting.  Then to be rewarded with vegetables you know are safe to eat.  So with that, enjoy your day,  You an reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Nice looking day out there this morning.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 15.9 C | 60.62 F.

Forecast For Today:  Should see lots of sunshine this morning. Later on in the afternoon things will start to cloud up with some thunderstorms possible late in the day or this evening.  Things will cool down quite a bit for tomorrow and Sunday.  Rainy day possible for tomorrow and cool and sunny for Sunday.

Bug Report:  Lots of Blackflies around these days.  Mosquitoes are also out in full force annoying folks.  In some areas they are quite bad this year.  If your new to the area a bug jacket would be recommended or till you get used to them.  Seems that some folks they don’t bother to much where others they can be quite destructive.  Their bites are not pleasant and itch for a long time after being bit.  The only thing that I have found that helps with the itch is plantain leaf, chewed and put on the bite or some real lemon juice squeezed mixed with apple cider vinegar, mixed 50 – 50.  Hope this helps.

Highway Report: Highway 522 is bare and dry these days.  Deer and moose are making their way onto the highway, with the blackflies and mosquitoes driving them out of the bush.  So care should be taken if out and about.  Other than that travelling will be good.  Great day to head off to do your shopping or what ever.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later on from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating for catching a few this morning and a 5 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon.  Great day to pull in a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the South at around 5 mph.  Good Luck and enjoy the weekend.

Around Town:  Not to much to report.  Folks are moving around a bit these days.  Lots of cars moving up and down the highway.  Not sure where they are all going but just the same it is good to see folks out and about.  Myself I am just cleaning up around the place and today will be working on my old boat getting it ready for fishing season. I like playing around doing what I enjoy.  That is what life is all about.  All work and no play isn’t in my books the way to go.  Life is short and as the old saying goes, we are placed here on earth to learn and have fun.  Enjoy your day, make it a great day.  You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning: Cloudy morning waking up here in Port Loring. Temperatures were sitting at: 13 C | 55.4 F.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, possible showers early.  Will warm up considerably as the day moves forward and even warmer for tomorrow.  Lots of sunshine is in the forecast for the next couple days.

Bug Report:  Lots of blackflies annoying folks along with the mosquitoes.  Would be a good idea if your going to be outside for a long time to buy yourself a bug jacket.  They can be quite nasty this time of year.  Once the dragon flies show themselves things will change as the blackflies are their main source of food.  They clean them up quite quickly.

Highway Report: Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout.  Great day to be travelling or just out for a drive.

Fishing Report:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.   Then once again later on from 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few today.  Not the greatest day for fishing.  Winds this morning are calm coming in from the East.  Good Luck.

Around Town.  Took a drive to North Bay a bit ago picking up a few items of choice.  Always amazes me how many people are out shopping on a work day.  Good to see though.  Also the trip to North Bay itself was enjoyable, as all the colours of the leaves that are beginning to form sure looks pretty.  Could say it is fall colours in the spring.   You get reds, light greens dark greens and browns of all shades.  Really something to see and take in.  So many things like this go unnoticed.  My old dad used to say.  “George, You have to take the blinders off and look around.  If you don’t you won’t see anything.”  Words of wisdom you might say.   That theory goes for a lot of things.  I wrote a whole article on them words in my new book which will be ready to purchase later on next week.  With that enjoy your day, make it a great day.  No one can do that but you.   You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Around Town:  Not to much to report. Few folks are now starting to pick up business wise.  Not to many tourists in the are yet but that will change by the end of June.  Yesterday I worked on getting the boat uncovered for the season.  Also took it down to Mikes here in town to get the bottom end filled with new oil.  Do that every spring.  It started right up nicely too, which puts a smile on my face.  Today will clean things up, charge up the batteries, install the trolling motor along with enjoying the day.  Tea time here orange pekoe this morning.  Have a great day.  You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]
