Spot for you to do some reading on gardening and staying healthy. Also a great place to put your feet up and relax for a bit.

Broccoli

They now know that a chemical that comes from a compound found in Broccoli offers a potentially new and potent weapon against the viruses that cause COVID-19 and the common cold.

I believe that to be true, and I suspect that cabbage is another. Mix them with vitamin D 3 and I suspect you will be a lot better off. Especially in this day and age.

And for other health related issues, all’s I can say is what I was taught many years ago.

Eat a varied diet that focuses on high-quality foods such as whole grains, nuts and fresh fruits and vegetables. The more colourful your plate is, the better.

Parsley

Hi Folks. Just after our first snow fall, I spotted some Parsley that we missed in one of our gardens. So I picked it and my lovely wife dried it for future used.

I know, you’re probably wondering who eats Parsley? Ha Ha. Well, I guess it is a desired taste, but we both like it. My wife mixes it in with all kinds of soups and things throughout the winter months. And on top of that, it is very healthy for you. Especially your heart. Take care. GW

Onions

Hmm, they say that there is an image on Facebook, an image of a handful of onions in a wicker basket. According to Facebook, the onions were positioned in a “sexually suggestive manner.” I would have to say that who ever sees this as something sexual, has a problem themselves LOL There are a lot of things on Facebook worse than that LOL The onions are on the news if you want to take a look. Sheesh, And hey for those that think there isn’t anything entertaining these days. I say just read the news or go on Facebook. LOL But hey! Who am I to judge.

Working Up Your Garden Idea

An elderly Italian man lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, since the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over.. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days.
Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Pop,
Don’t dig up that garden. That’s where the bodies are buried.
Love,
Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Pop,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love you,
Vinnie

Plant of the day

I have found that the Snake Plant cleans air better than most other indoor plants as it has the ability to absorb excessive amounts of carbon monoxide. Additionally, it releases more oxygen than most other plants, and one of the best snake plant health benefits is … it can help a lot in getting rid of toxic air pollutants. Other than CO2, it can also absorb benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene. These cancer-causing pollutants are harmful to our health, a well-known proven fact.
Out of so many houseplants to have in the home, the snake plant is one that every home should have. They also grow quite well in areas that there isn’t much sunlight, but you should know they do like lots of water. A couple great places for them would be in the bedroom and living room. They like company. LOL

Port Loring’s Bumble Bee’s

One thing we have lots of around our home here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada, is Bumble Bees. All types can be seen on our Sedum Plants, which are out in full bloom. The scent they give off is also fantastic. Every year I have to take some pictures of these furry little creatures. You know … they are so gentle you can even pet them as they go about their business of harvesting the sweet nectar that these flowers give away for free. Fantastic to see. Below are some pictures I took. For better viewing click on each picture to Enlarge.
