Cool Morning

Well cool morning here when I got up. Down to 29 degrees. But they say it is going to get warmer as the week goes forward.  Which is ok with me as I burn wood for heat living here in the North.  So far I have burned around a full cord I would think, so it looks like it’s going to be a long season.  Usually we burn around 16 face cords a year to heat this old house of ours.  In my eyes wood heat is the only way to go here in the north, as if one had to pay for oil, gas, or hydro he would for sure have to have a good job, paying good wages.  For us old folks though we make do with what we got and wood is our only way to keep warm for the money we got coming in.  Not complaining mind ya, as my wife and I have been self efficient all our lives, not relying on anyone.  Just the way it is. Have a great day.  Talk Soon

Firewood Time

Well got to say it sure is a cold one out there the past two mornings. But on the bright side its a real good time to split wood, which we have. This year I bought some logs delivered to the house to save a bit of money. Took the wife and I a bit to get the oooold body going but each day it got easier.  I think the problem with most folks today is that they don’t get enough hard exercise.  I had a few problems for years but now that I cut split and piled 20 cords of firewood I am feeling like a 20 year old again. Hard to believe huh. I will say this though, having them logs laying by the house for folks to see sure kept company away, LOL.  Might be the answer for them unwanted guests huh? Well guess will go and get my breakfast and then get back at cutting and splitting. Should finish it up today or tomorrow. Will take some pictures when all said and done of before and after.  Oh and takes a week of steady work to cut, split and pile around twenty cords of firewood 16 inches long and no log splitter other than an ax an some muscle.  Talk Soon.

Storm Heading Our Way

If this storm track is right it should hit most of Ontario.

Taken literally, you can say that some of the numerical models loudly argue for a genuine blizzard across the Upper Midwest and much of the Great Lakes this weekend. And while the European version at 12z implied an ice storm threat to the major metropolitan areas of Kansas City MO, Chicago IL, and Grand Rapids MI, there is potential for the storm, and rain vs. snow placement, to take a bit more of a rightward curve that would enable the heavy snowfall, wind and cold combination. With the upper low phasing into a deep trough and vortex, the abundance of 500MB height falls and eastward displacement of the vorticity maxima makes it possible that the surface low will redevelop off of the coast of LI NY. This secondary could help to prevent a shift from snow to rain in much of New England and the Maritime Provinces. Otherwise, the entire warm sector of the giant disturbance will feature heavy rain and strong thunderstorms. The risk of severe weather in Dixie may be limited by a very moist atmospheric profile, but still, strong winds are virtually assured in the tight pressure gradient about the low.

Snowfall totals within the colder quadrants of the gyre may be in the 10 to 15 inch range (caveat: lake-related moisture could enhance amounts in parts of IL, WI, MI, and ON), and a thin stripe of territory just above the storm trajectory axis could be hit with a rather impressive icing event. Following the storm will be about 48 hours of extreme cold that at one point could cover most of the area between the Rocky Mountains and the Eastern Seaboard.
