Other than Fathers day not much happening. Different eating establishments are having their specials all weekend, more on that in my back posts.  Myself I am just going to take it easy, maybe work on my boat some.  Have a coffee or two, few glasses of cool water and enjoy the company of my wife, which she always provides for me. Both my boys have to work  so they won’t be up to see us till the long weekend. Which will be a good thing as Bass Season will be open by then.  Also gives me some time to finish off my boat.  Enjoy your day my friends.  Tea time here..

News For Port Loring

Well folks are opening up their cottages around the area. Lots dropping by to our small store and saying hello and picking up their items of choice.  Great to see so many after a long winter.  Still working on this boat I got a few weeks ago.  Put a new cedar floor in the old girl and have to say she looks mighty fine.  Today it will be building a back seat for it, along with adding a new winch on the front, as the old electric one has seen its better days.  So still lots to do, but it’s coming along.  Bug report; Well….have to say that I haven’t seen hardly any black flies for the past few days.  So no one should be complaining about them this year.  Mosquitoes and horse flies are around, but not to bad either.  There are also a few deer flies making an appearance, whom I don’t really care for, as they can sure bite. Mostly though they just bug a feller or gal, by swarming around your head. If you stop though and wait till they land, you can easily kill them with a good swat.  So there you go.  Think I will go and have a cup or tea or two and soak up some of that sunshine and breath in some of that fresh northern air.  Have a great day!!!

Bit Of Humor

A Friend sent me this morning and thought I would share. Nothing like a smile on ones face to start the day.  But in reality, thinking about this bit of humor, over the years, I have found a lot of truth in what was happening to the poor feller. Read on.

Kevin had shingles.

Those of us who spend much time in a doctor’s office should appreciate this! Doesn’t it seem more and more that physicians are running their practices like an assembly line?
     Here’s what happened to Kevin:
Kevin walked into a doctor’s office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Kevin said: ‘Shingles.’ So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.
Fifteen minutes later a nurse’s aide came out and asked Kevin what he had…
Kevin said, ‘Shingles.’ So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Kevin to wait in the examining room.
A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Kevin what he had. Kevin said, ‘Shingles..’ So the nurse gave Kevin a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Kevin to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.
An hour later the doctor came in and found Kevin sitting patiently in the nude and asked Kevin what he had.
Kevin said, ‘Shingles.’ The doctor asked, ‘Where?’
Kevin said, ‘Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload ’em??’

What You Should Know About Butter & Margerine

DO YOU KNOW the difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end…gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams, compared to 5 grams for margarine.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of  other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..
Very high in trans fatty acids.
Triples risk of coronary heart disease …
Increases LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..
Lowers quality of breast milk
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here’s the most disturbing fact…HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC…and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.  Why?  Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Been working on another 16 foot by 5 1/2 foot wide aluminum boat I got the other day, keeping me busy and out of trouble.  Things are rolling along, but going to be needing a windshield for the front of it.  If anyone has one that they don’t need or don’t use any more and not wanting to much money I would sure appreciate hearing from you.  I will give dimensions once I find some one that has one.  I did put a bead of Marine Glue on the old one yesterday, which I am hoping will hold things till I find another.  Got to be one out there somewhere.  Other than that, gardens are growing nicely.  Salads bowls are heaping full come supper time.  Pretty tasty let me tell ya.   Hot one yesterday an will be the same today, so good idea to keep th blinds down this morning and ceiling fan circulating the air a bit through the day.  That is all we ever use and our home is nice and cool all day and night.  Never need an air-conditioner.  So there you have it, have a great day and enjoy the sunshine.  Oh and for those that might have a boat windshield you can reach me at [email protected]   Thanks!!

A Bit Of Humor For Wednesday, June 06 2012

I liked this one.

An old Italian lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato
garden, but it was very difficult
work, as the ground was hard.

His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a
letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year.
I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would
be over.
I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days.
Love,
    Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

   Dear Papa,
Don’t dig up that garden. That’s where the bodies are buried.
    Love, Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

  Dear Papa,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do
under the circumstances.
Love you,
    Vinnie

Not much to report this morning.  Quiet around town, even the wind is calm. Nice morning to sit out soak up a bit of sunshine and enjoy a tea or two.  Yesterday I worked up my garden some for the first time. Weeds were starting to show themselves.  I sure enjoy working up the soil, let me tell ya.  Good time to get the old shirt off too, as you get the sun on all sides.   Bug report, have to say I didn’t see one black fly yesterday or mosquito, even the horse flies were taking the day off.  OK by me.  So far bug wise it hasn’t been a bad year and we can thank the warm weather so early for that.  Have a great day my friends.

Great Poem Called Dandelions

Being a writer now for a good number of years I have always kept my eyes open for poems.  I am not a poet by no means, not like my Sister Barb out west is, as now there is a gal that can whip up some great words for all ages.  Takes a special talent to do these things and there is no doubt in my mind, that she is talented beyond her years, let me tell ya. I guess that is what attracts me to different poems, as every time I read one, or should say a good one, I think of her.  I would also like to say, I only enjoy poems that rhyme. All others doesn’t give me that special feelings that they concur.   Yesterday I got an E-Mail from one of my readers, he is 85 years young and doing great.  Like to hear them stories;  Anyways, as a young one he read this poem and it has stuck with him now for all these years.  I liked it so much I thought I would share it with you.  Also since I am such a lover of Dandelions and using them to treat my illness, I feel it is warranted a special spot, right here on the Blog.  It’s Called;

Dandelions

There surely is a gold mine, somewhere down beneath the grass,
Where the dandelions are popping up, most every place you pass,
And if you want to gather some, you better not delay, because the gold
will turn to silver soon, and all will blow away.

Well black flies will be back out today, now the sun is shinning; along with a few mosquito’s I suspect.  But that’s the time of year and yep, we live in the north, so…..to be expected.  Right?  I put the charger on the battery last night for my trolling motor I got for Christmas and looking forward to getting out there and doing some fishing.  Have to say the motor i got pushes that Giesler Boat of mine along really nice.  I figure I can get about six hours of steady running out of one battery charge.  Can’t beat that.  Great little motor for sure.  Also no fumes and quiet. After all, isn’t that what one is after, other than fish while out in nature.  On another note; no reason for anyone not to get some sunshine on the old skin today and if you are in need of becoming healthy, then get out side.  Mother Nature is just waiting to come to your aid.  Have a great day my friends.

Mammograms ???

You know for the life of me I can’t see why women continue to go for these Mammograms.   It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see for oneself, that these are in my eyes, quite dangerous and can in reality cause cancer and spread it.  Think about this./  You go in and have your breasts flattened down in a vise like machine.   Now here is the thing., If there does happen to be a tumour inside, what do you think is going to happen to it. Well I would think it’s going to be broke open and what ever is inside, is going to be spread all through your breasts.  Then to top it off you are flooded with radiation from the ex ray machine.   Again think about this. Radiation can cause cancer.  So why does so many women keep on going back year after year for these things?  Simple really, as the powers that be, have told you it is safe. The benefits outweigh the negatives.  In reality it should be the other way around I am thinking.  So there is my opinion on the subject.  As I always say my opinion only, what you do is your own business.

Do You Believe In ????

There was a question sent to me that asked, whether I spend much time dwelling on things that might exist or might not exist, like the here after.  Well in sincerity I don’t spend much time thinking about whether there is or there isn’t.  I don’t consider that a relevant question. It’s unanswerable and irrelevant to my life, so I put it in the category of things I can’t worry about.”  To each their own I always say.  You asked, I just answered your question with a bit of information taken from years ago.  My Opinion Only.
