Facts of life

And some are still saying that this virus isn’t all that bad.

This is a picture of the Sunny brook field hospital that is being set up because our hospitals, here in Ontario … are overflowing with COVID-19 patients. Click on picture to enlarge.

Little Humour for a Tuesday Morning

THE BAGPIPER

Lay down whatever is bothering you, breathe in the fresh air and LISTEN to this story.

Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life.

As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the Nova Scotia back country.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man, I didn’t stop for directions.

I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight.

There were only the diggers and crew left, and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late.

I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play.

The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man.

And as I played “Amazing Grace”, the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together.
When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head was hung low, my heart was full.

As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say,
“I have never seen anything like that before, and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.”

Apparently, I’m still lost … it’s a man thing.

Morning Chat April 19/2021

Good Morning! It’s a real nice day looking outside. The sun is shinning, the birds are chirping, and things are greening up looking more like summer every day. The temperature waking up was sitting at 2.9 C | 37.22 F. It will warm up nicely as the day progresses. But tomorrow will be cloudy and cool with a few flurries thrown in for good measure. But after that, things will start to warm up again. On another note, I did get some work done outside yesterday, and by the looks of things I will be able to do some more today. My wife and I might even get some front porch sittin’ in later on this afternoon. That is … if the sun stays with us. Our firewood should be coming soon, which will give us a bit more work to do. It usually takes us two or three days to pile it under our lean-to. The good part is that this year my wife and I are in better shape, after all the work we have been doing outside for the past month or so. I also kept busy in the old woodworking shop throughout the winter months. It pays to keep fit. With that … I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife, and maybe a cup of tea. Too much caffeine I found doesn’t always agree with me for some reason. So knowing that, I usually hold off till later on in the afternoon when we enjoy a fresh pot of decaf dark roast coffee. Something to look forward to. LOL Take care my friends and stay safe. We are crowding the 5000 a day mark here in Ontario Canada, with folks catching this virus. The worst part is, that around 20 some people are dying every day from it here in Ontario. It is nothing to take lightly.

Morning Chat April 18/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 3.9 C | 39.02 F. We should see some sunshine a bit later on this morning. Which would be nice. It was a beauty of a day yesterday. There is also a chance of some snow on Wednesday of this week. But even if we get a bit, it won’t last long, as warmer temperatures are to follow. Highway 522 has been quiet these days, with mostly locals moving around. Which is to be expected with the lock-down that is in place for all of Ontario. As bad as it is, shutting down is the only defence we have in slowing this virus down. Yesterday we were well above the 4000, and it is rising daily with these new variants. The worst part is these new variants spread and kill faster. Even in the young. But the vaccines are coming, finally, so lets hope it gets things under control. The closing down should start to ease off the cases within a week, that is if we all do what we should be doing. I suspect we will be dealing with this for a few years to come. So knowing that, the only solution we humans have, is to change our ways, and adapt, instead of sitting back complaining about things. Our forefathers had to do it, and now we have to do it. And one last word about these protesters and things. I don’t worry or think about them any more really. The old saying which is true is… Give them enough rope, and they will hang themselves. It’s been that way from the beginning of time. Actually, truth be told, everything they are doing, is really defeating all they are trying to do. With that bit of info under your hat, for what it’s worth, I am off for a bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife, and will then get some work done outside that I have lined up. We try and make the best of every day. Take care my friends and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat April 17/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature was sitting at 3.2 C | 37.76 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We should see some sunshine later on in the day, once it breaks through the clouds. I do see that we might be in for some more snow later on in the week, say around Wednesday. So It looks like winter isn’t finished with us just yet. That should be interesting. On another note, I didn’t do much outside yesterday, it being so cool and wet. Actually I had the wood furnace going for the past two days, and lit it this morning. And I suspect we will be using it for most of this week with the temperatures going down to near the freezing mark on Tuesday and Wednesday. You just never know what can happen weather wise at this time of year. Today I am thinking of doing some outside work, but we will see how that goes. With that I am off for my morning bite to eat with my lovely wife, and will then see what the day has in store. You just never know, which makes life interesting. Stay safe my friends. GW
