George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

One Should Think Twice Before Taking Folks To Court.

A man from Charlotte, North Carolina, having purchased a case of very expensive cigars, insured them against, among other things, fire. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile, the man filed a claim against the insurance company, stating that the cigars were lost ‘in a series of small fires’.
The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The man sued – and won.

In delivering the ruling the judge, agreeing that the claim was frivolous, stated nevertheless that the man held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure against fire, without defining what it considered to be ‘unacceptable fire’, and was obliged to pay the claim. Rather than endure a lengthy and costly appeal the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid the man $15,000 for the rare cigars he had lost ‘in the fires’.

After he cashed the cheque, however, the company had him arrested on 24 counts of arson. With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the man was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

Buy American, Buy Canadian? Here Is My Opinion

You know for years I have been saying that we here in Canada have to become more self efficient.  Well I still say that today.   In my opinion we can’t be relying on all these foreign countries to keep us afloat.  This thing with the US  now for example, where the companies are buying US only, and back here in Canada folks are all upset.  Here again I say, why get upset, get busy and buy Canadian.  We should have been doing it years ago.   The thing is, we have to look after ourselves first, simple as that. We can’t blame the US for looking after themselves first, they have to if they want to succeed.   We here in Canada have to do the same.  The Powers That Be have been taxing us to death here in Canada and around the world for years now. To much tax along with too high of wages. we pay tax on everything, what for? Years ago there was no tax and we were the greatest country in the world.   Now we are going broke, no work and no companies even want to move into our country.  Can’t say I blame them either.  What we need to do is cut the taxes in Canada about 75 % and lower wages to about half and get on with it. What will that do?  Well again, simple. It will put us back in track, jobs will  flourish, and folks here in Canada will get to living like they should be.  So…..I don’t get upset when I hear buy US only. No sir, I give them folks over there credit, as at least they are standing up for what they believe in.  Will Canadians do the same?  I don’t think so, but hey, you never know.

I would also like to say here.  The good old US of A has been our friends for as long as Canada has be in existence, we are one.  They have always been there for us and always will be providing we treat them with the respect that they deserve.  This dealing with other countries abroad and dealing out the US was the wrong way to go.   My Opinion Only.

Flu Info. Kind Of Makes One Think

Three young women from Ontario’s town of Port Perry who returned from a trip to Cancun, Mexico, in late April have potentially exposed hundreds of people to swine flu after being released from Lakeridge Health’s Port Perry hospital and told they were “fine”. The three Ontario residents, Canada’s first confirmed cases of swine flu, were released despite showing symptoms, and were not immediately given instructions on being quarantined.

Swine Flu Information To Think About

Well picked up this bit on that new flu that is going around these days and thought I would let you take a look. This info is pretty right on the mark so I thought I would share.  My Opinion Only

There are many natural remedies that will raise your immunity to the Swine Flu and other viral and bacterial diseases. Many people do not have immunity to the current strain of Swine Flu. This is not unusual because most viruses alter as the virus season goes along. Most people will not become sick because the issue is not the virus but SUSCEPTIBILITY.

Viruses will not multiply in a healthy body. We constantly have Streptococcus in our throats, yet we rarely experience Strep Throat. The same is true of this Swine Flu and other viral strains. Exposure will lead to disease only if the immune system is suppressed and if the vitality of the person is weakened. Do NOT suppress mucus. It is important to let the body discharge toxins.

Most viruses become less aggressive over time because they want to spread and not to kill their hosts. If they kill their hosts, they die as well. The viruses that do survive –the ones in humans with strong immune systems– become less virulent so that their hosts, us humans, go to work, shake hands and sneeze on others to continue to spread the virus.

Sales Of Prescription Drugs Today

You know I wouldn’t hesitate to bet that half these prescription drugs that are being given to folks today, would be unnecessary if folks just ate healthier.  Hard to do though with food stores just brimming over with food full of pesticides and things. But in saying that, remember this, you are the one that puts these things into your body. You have a choice. You also have a choice on and if you should be taking all these prescription drugs.  My opinion only.   Take a look.

Booming sales of prescription drugs helped push profit at Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. up by 6.1 per cent in the first quarter, the company said Tuesday.

Prescription sales jumped 11.7 per cent to $1.09 billion, far more than the overall sales increase of 8.5 per cent. The increase was “driven by strong growth in the number of prescriptions filled,” even as the use of cheaper, generic drugs restricted the growth figure.
