Letter To “VIRGINIA O’HANLON.

I like to post this every year.  ENJOY!!

“DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
“Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
“Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’
“Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

“VIRGINIA O’HANLON.
“115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.”

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Hiring Folks From Other Countries Question

Hey George.  what do you think of this article I read in the paper today.

Certain groups of foreign-trained workers will know within a year of applying for certification whether their training will allow them to work in Canada, the federal government said Monday.

Beginning in December 2010, foreign-trained architects, engineers, financial auditors and accountants, pharmacists and registered nurses will be among the groups that fall under the new framework, Minister of Human Resources Diane Finley said in Toronto.

Well let me tell ya.  First off it never ceases to amaze me when our powers that be get to thinking that these things can help our economy and is good for our country.  First off there is millions of folks that live right here now out of work.  There are lots of our own for that matter that have a lot of these qualities and can’t find work.  How about putting some of our own through training to do the job, as I bet most would only need a bit of upgrading to qualify.  Second thing is, if you look at all our pharmaceutical companies now, you will find way back somewhere that they are all owned and supplied by off shore countries.  Also just take a look at who is handing out the prescriptions now  a days.  Also take a look at our most of our doctors. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what is going on here.  What ever happened to; Made In Canada, or for that matter, Born and Educated  In Canada?  One has to remember as of years ago, you have to look after yourselves before you are any good to anyone else, selfish some say.  Yes it is, but that is  the correct way of doing things   So there you go.   Again My Opinion Only

Quick Good Morning From Port Loring Ontario

}Good morning.”  Cool morning here so far, with frost on the pumpkins showing all  its beauty.  Guess some say there isn’t anything beautiful about it, but I say.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, just like the old days when my Grandfather was alive.  Nothing nicer to look outside on these cold mornings and watch the smoke slowly curling up over the trees and bowing down to the earth below.  And to see the frost glistening off the grass and trees is something all in itself.  My wife and I just love it.  The old wood furnace is perkin’ away as well as the coffee, which aroma is now letting me know that it’s time to go and get a cup.  Enjoy your day.

Letter Of Appreciation From The Powassan Library

Well got a letter from the Powassan Library yesterday,  letting me know how much they appreciated my coming down awhile back. It was a real fine night for sure and had a good turn out too. The folks that run the library did a real find job and should be commended. The food was great and nicely laid out. They made me feel welcome and was a relaxing evening.    I got to say though, their punch was fantastic.  My wife even got their recipe before we left.  I should be the one thanking them. So………I will.  Thanks folks!

Port Loring Ontario, A Place To Raise Your Children, Start A Business, Or Just Settle Down.

You know for most my life I have lived in the country. Moving here to Port Loring, Ontario was just one more of our adventures in trying to keep  us alive and well. In Niagara where we farmed it has grown to enormous proportions and  you might say folks don’t have any elbow room any-more.  Here in Port Loring that problem is solved.   For those that want the simple life with a country backing, well this is the place for you.  We are a growing area. but still with in our growth rate to get bigger, without loosing what I call necessities in life.   Homes are readily available at a very reasonable price in and around our area, and lots of good land if you choose to build your dream home.   We are still an unorganized area, but don’t let that worry you, as through my eyes it is an advantage point, as there are a lot of things not in place to hamper a fellow or gal, when the urge strikes to doing certain things.  Also  remember this, being unorganized doesn’t mean we don’t have rules to follow, and that any one can do what ever they want, as it doesn’t. We have our own Board here called the LSB, that takes place every month, open to the public and things are getting done.  I can vouch for that, as I am on the Board, newly elected  and lots of good things are about to happen and have happened.  Guess what I am saying is, we have lots to offer here in Port Loring,  so why not put it on your list of places to visit, you will be surprised in what you see.  And when in town, stop in and see my wife and I, we would love to see you. Coffee is always on. Should say here too, if you need more info on our growing community, feel free to get in touch with either my wife or I.   You can reach me here on the Blog or at :   [email protected] or 1 705-757-1640  Take Care, George & Ruth Walters

Events Going On Here In Port Loring 3rd/4th/ & 5th. Have Fun

Well haven’t bee on here the past few days, just been busy.  Old vegetable garden is growing great this year and think I might have some fresh broccoli within two weeks, so that is exceptionally good for this area. Tomatoes are all out in full bloom, so won’t be long for them either and gotta’ say, I can’t wait as I sure enjoy fresh tomatoes.  My lovely wife does up around forty jars a year for winter.  Also very healthy for you, especially if you mix them with fresh broccoli.  This morning I got most of the garden hoed up and looking good.

We also got a lot going on here in Port Loring this weekend, so figured I would let you take a look.  Info is belowMy favourite is the frog race, but as it says, if you do take part, make sure you bring your very own champion frog.  So should make for an interesting weekend.  Oh and if you can’t read the flyer to well, just click on it and it will open a bit larger for those eyes that are not quite up to snuff.   Hmm………… like mine, come to think of it.  Talk Soon

The Economy Here In Canada

You know for the past few months now all that I have heard is how bad our economy really is.  I for one don’t really think it’s as bad as some would have us believe. Sure we have lost tons of jobs but that isn’t because the economy is bad, it’s happening because we don’t make or do anything for ourselves anymore here in Canada and when other countries get into hard times we feel it.  What we need is to be a lot more self efficient and start looking after ourselves.  Some folks say well that is being selfish, I say it’s not that way at all, as one has to look after themselves before they can help others.  That’s a fact.  I also think the media has every one so paranoid that they don’t know what to do.  If you think back a few years we had a recession and it was worse than the one we are in now.  So what to do?  Well sure save a bit of money for a rainy day and sure pay off them debts, but don’t let it stop you from living a good healthy life.  If everyone starts to hord their money, you can bet no good will become of it.  And remember this, don’t believe everything the Powers That Be is telling you, especially a liberal view on things.  My old Dad always told me, “George you got a mind of your own, you don’t need anyone else doing your thinking for ya.”     My Opinion Only

Cool Morning

Well cool morning here when I got up. Down to 29 degrees. But they say it is going to get warmer as the week goes forward.  Which is ok with me as I burn wood for heat living here in the North.  So far I have burned around a full cord I would think, so it looks like it’s going to be a long season.  Usually we burn around 16 face cords a year to heat this old house of ours.  In my eyes wood heat is the only way to go here in the north, as if one had to pay for oil, gas, or hydro he would for sure have to have a good job, paying good wages.  For us old folks though we make do with what we got and wood is our only way to keep warm for the money we got coming in.  Not complaining mind ya, as my wife and I have been self efficient all our lives, not relying on anyone.  Just the way it is. Have a great day.  Talk Soon
