Morning Chat Aug 2/2021

Good Morning! It’s another great day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The sun is shinning without a cloud in the sky. The temperatures are also cooperating, sitting at 11.1 C | 51.98 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Along with all that, it looks like this nice weather will stay with us now for the next week or so. Great weather for doing just about anything. The fishing this year hasn’t been the greatest with the heat and then the rain. But folks are catching a few. Myself, I haven’t been out yet this year, actually I haven’t been out for the past two years with this virus. And with all the things my wife and I have been doing, we haven’t had the time. I am thinking, though, I might get to work on my boat and motor, see if I can get it running and cleaned up. Then maybe we will take a nice day and see if we can get out there and hook on a nice pickerel, or a large mouth bass. Yesterday I finished up our cottage and my lovely wife and I enjoyed a drink or two on the new deck we added this year, taking in what we have accomplished. I will add a few pictures at the bottom of this post. Today I am going to look at fixing the roof on our lean-to that hooks onto my woodworking shop as it is leaking, and we put our car under it all winter. So I will see how that goes. Seems that there is always something that needs doing. With that, you all take care, have a great day and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat Aug 1/2021

Good Morning! Well … here it is, the first of August. Man, is time flying by this year. It won’t be long and the trees will be turning colour. I am not looking forward to the cold weather, even if Mother Nature is giving us a taste of what’s to come at the moment, as the temperature has dropped substantially the past two days. This morning getting out of bed it was sitting at 13.8 C | 56.84 F. It will warm up somewhat as the day moves forward, and if lucky we could see some sunshine. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day with sunshine and warmer temperatures entering back into the picture. I am looking forward to it. There are still a lot of tourists coming into our area, and I suspect they will continue to do so for the rest of this month. I also see the numbers increasing here in Ontario and across Canada with this virus that is among us. The reason for that is that the virus is slowly getting to the unvaccinated. I feel for them, but … it’s their decision. The trouble is that even if they get the virus and make it through it, the repercussion’s after could last a lifetime, as this virus affects the brain too which can cause all kinds of problems down the road a way. I think, that our powers that be should be showing what is happening and can happen if they don’t get vaccinated, more than they are doing. At any rate, not much else we can do other than take extra precautions when around them. As if we aren’t wearing a mask, we could possibly pass it on to someone that isn’t vaccinated. So … the bottom line is, even if we are vaccinated, we have to keep up with what we have been doing until things get worked out. But enough of that. Yesterday I manged to dig a trench across my driveway and laid down some plastic conduit in it. I then fed the new CAT6 Outdoor Extension Cable for the high speed internet through it and into the cottage from the house. So now I just have to pick up a few things from my son Karl and the cottage will have high speed Internet for our family, friends and guests. Which will make things nice. Especially with a lot of folks that are working from home these days. Today I am going to finish putting up a nice old barn rope we have had for over fifty years, a hay rope, actually. They used it for pulling the hay fork loaded with hay up into the top of the barns years ago. My wife thought it would make for a real nice railing of sort, that wraps around our deck. Hard to explain, I will take a picture when all said and done. LOL Anyway, I am off for some French Toast this morning for a change that my lovely wife is making. Then I will get to work, that is if the rain holds off. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat July 31/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 14 C | 57.2 F. It will warm up a touch later on, but we could get some showers later on this afternoon. So this morning is the time to get some outside work done. That is, if you have any to do. Highway 522 was really busy yesterday with cars, trucks, campers, you name it moving into our area. It is the long weekend for most. The weather will get warmer as the week progresses. Actually, it will become quite nice for the next week or so. Almost perfect weather. There is no reason for anyone to complain about the weather up here where I live this year. Lots of rain, hardly no smoke from the forest fires, just a good all around year. Another thing is the trees and plants have greened up a lot over the past two years. I think with all us humans staying home, it gave them time to heal, as we have sure caused them a lot of grief over the years. Most folks today just take Mother Nature for granted. The thing is we couldn’t live without her. But it just goes to show you the mentality of some humans. On another note, I did manage to get my mowing done up yesterday. Took me awhile longer than it usually does, as I told my lovely wife to stay inside off her sore leg. Which she did. But in saying that, she didn’t just sit around. As she worked on her painting orders which at the moment are many. People from all over keep coming in wanting to buy her paintings along with wanting signs and things. Right now, she has orders lined up for the next two months or more. She is a fantastic artist, and I am not just saying that. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. As they used to say. LOL And her pudding is her creations. Today I am going to run a high speed underground cable into our cottage from our house, so who ever stays there will have high speed Internet. That is, if it doesn’t rain. With all the rain we have had, the ground will be easier to dig. So with that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Life is like a good mystery novel. You never know what is going to happen on the next page. Take care and stay safe and do what’s right. GW

PS, I guess my outside is going to have to wait as it is raining now. Such is life.

Good Morning! So how you all doing? Good I hope. Ruth and I are fine, very busy but healthy. Other than my lovely wife having a sore leg. We have chalked it up to all the work she has been doing for the past three months or so. Lots of bending and lifting. It seems these days that our minds say, heck ya, go for it. Then our bodies say. Ain’t happening!! LOL, At any rate, we do know we have to ease off some, that’s for sure. On another note, we did have a whopper of a thunderstorm last night with lots of lightning. It rained so hard, our eve-troughs on the house couldn’t take it away fast enough. The good news was that it didn’t last all that long, and I got my rain barrels filled back up with some nice soft water; which we use for our vegetables and plants. Highway 522 and others are very busy these days with campers and travellers coming into our area from all over. Good in part, I suppose. Yesterday, my lovely wife and I went to town to pick up a few things. Shoes were on the top of the list, as my work shoes were so worn out I was gluing my soles down with silicone. Worked for a while. I also picked up a new Husqvarna Walk Behind Lawn Mower for my wife, as the other one we had was front-wheel drive. With it being front-wheel drive, the weight is on the front, and you almost had to lift it to get it to move going up hills. Which, in turn, was very hard on her. For flat surface’s they are fine. I will probably sell it for half price, $200.00 as it is only two years old and looks and runs good. I will see how that goes. Today is mowing day, so I will give the new one we bought a work-out. After that, I will do some painting on the posts that we have for our deck on our cottage. We didn’t like the colour we painted them a few days ago. With that, take care and stay safe. This virus is still with us and getting stronger in a lot of instances. Especially amongst the folks that isn’t vaccinated or doesn’t want to be vaccinated. I feel for them … as it will eventually get them, and the results won’t be nice, that’s for sure. GW

Good Morning! It’s a great looking day here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning without a cloud in the sky. The temperature climbing out of bed was sitting at 12.7 C | 54.86 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. But in saying that, we will be seeing some really nice cooler temperatures for the next week or so after today. Which will make it real nice for doing some outside work. Not that the hot weather has stopped my wife and I lately. We take each day as it is given to us, making the best of things. A day wasted is a day without fun. And you know … life should be about having fun, not all this Bureaucratic Bull S…. that is among us at the moment. I get tired of it all. At any rate, such is that. Highway 522 is still busy these days. I am not sure what is happening with the borders. I am hoping that they keep it closed for another month at the very least. Not only that, I also think we should keep the folks from coming into our country from other countries for a while longer too. At least till we see how things work out with these vaccines. This virus hasn’t left us, it is still there as strong as it ever was. The good part is that a lot of people have gotten their vaccines, and it is working, and working good. In spite of all the nonsense that is going on at Facebook and other social media platforms. I am real happy I don’t belong to one of them groups. As far as I am concerned, all they do is corrupt a person mind. And they do it without anyone realizing it. LOL. That’s my opinion on the subject. On another note, my lovely wife and I have been really busy re-landscaping the front of our home. I think we should be able to get it finished up today. It is looking pretty nice. After that, I have a back deck on our house that needs repairs, so if I work up enough energy I will get into that. With that I am off for some homemade pancakes my wife is making for me with an egg on top covered with Maple Syrup from my friend Mike Clapperton here in town. He won the world championship for the best Maple Syrup a year ago or so. I have to admit, it sure is tasty. Take care and stay safe, and enjoy your day. It’s all up to you.
