Morning Chat July 27/2021

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning with some rain thrown in for good measure here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature has also cooled down some, which is quite nice. Highway 522 is still very busy these days with folks coming into our area from all over. So that tells me folks are enjoying the summer, which is understandable after all we humans have been through with this virus and things. Even Mother Nature is giving us some problems this year with all the forest fires and droughts. I feel sorry for the farmers out west, as they are sure are having it hard these days. I suspect if the weather doesn’t improve, the price of food will rise even higher than it is now. On another note, my lovely wife and I have been really busy working outside on our cottage, with the new deck. For the past few days, we have been landscaping it using plants that we already have. Some of them Hosta’s we have weight 100 pounds. I had to use a cart to move them, and even then it was a challenge. I did break a few apart where we didn’t need a large one. After we had them all planted around the cottage, we then decided to thin out the large gardens in front of our home. We are about half done at the moment, as we have tons of plants to move into other areas around our property. The problem was that everything was so overgrown, along with the gardens being so large. Knowing that, we decided to cut them down in size, which will make them easier to look after. We aren’t getting any younger. Although, my wife says she can’t believe all the work we have been doing these days. Today, with the rain, we will take it a bit easy. I might go out and clean up my woodworking shop, as it once again is a mess with all we have been doing. Doesn’t’t look like a woodworking shop at the moment. LOL, More like a garden centre. LOL Anyway, what can you do? With that I am off for a couple poached eggs on toast and will then see what the day has in store. You never know. Take care and stay safe.

Morning Chat July 22/21

Good Morning! It is looking like another great day for us here in Port Loring. The sun is trying to get through the haze, which it will do as the morning moves forward. The temperature has been nice also for the past couple days, with it sitting this morning at 12.7 C | 54.86 F. Can’t beat that, at this time of year. Also, the mosquitoes, horse flies and deer flies aren’t all that bad at the moment, which makes it real nice for doing some outside work and fishing. I haven’t been out fishing this year, actually I haven’t been out for two years with this virus among us. I miss going out with my fishing buddy Berry. But I am thinking now my wife and I have had both of our shots as has Berry we might get out there in the coming weeks. I will see how it goes. I still have to get my boat cleaned up and see if it runs. I will get to that in a few days, now that we have finished up building our wrap around deck on our cottage. At the moment, I am in the process of painting the outside of it. I did manage to get 2/3s of it done yesterday. Today though is mowing day, so that will take me most of the day, as my lovely wife’s back isn’t the greatest yet, and I don’t want her to make things worse by mowing. So I will see what I can do on my own. On the mowing end of things, I did buy a new cordless weed eater last week as my old gas one was giving me a lot of problems. It is fixed now thanks to Mike at the garage here in town. Actually, I have to pick it up this morning. I will do that in a bit. I am hoping this new battery one will work out good, as I am getting tired of these gas engines. I have to admit, they have come a long way these days. I will let you know how it works after I give it a work-out today. Highway 522 is very, very busy these days. Non-stop cars, trucks, and campers moving East and West all day long. But it is the middle of summer and folks have been coped up a long time. You could say the call of the wild has gotten to them. LOL. With that, I guess I will have my breakfast and then get to work. It’s a pleasure working outside in this nice weather. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy, hazy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 18.4 C | 65.12 F. The hazy part is due to Smoke from the active fires in northwestern Ontario and eastern Manitoba, which will stay with us here in Northern Ontario for another day or so. Once the wind shifts, things will get better, with some cooler temperatures also entering into the picture. Which is okay with me, as I sure don’t like this hot, humid weather we have been having. But it is better than pushing snow and wearing heavy winter clothing. That will come soon enough. LOL, But in spite of the hot weather, my lovely wife and I have done a lot of work this year so far around our property. I finally finished the wrap around deck along with adding a new eve trough and down pipes onto our cottage. Now we are going to paint the outside, which will finish it up quite nicely. On another note, campers, trucks, vans and cars of all kinds are roaming around our area these days. It’s back to normal for most folks, other than wearing a mask. And I hope they continue to wear the masks for a while yet. With that I am off for my morning breakfast which consists of homemade pancakes this morning for a change. Then we will see what the day has in store. Life is a mystery to say the least. Take care and stay safe.

Morning Chat, July 16/2021

Good Morning! Well, we are finally having some sunshine here this morning in Port Loring, Ontario. Over the past few days, we have had our share of rain. But it was needed, for sure. Highway 522 is very busy these days with campers moving in and around our area from all over. Is it a good thing? Time will tell. Let’s hope so. One good thing is that them pesky blood sucking parasites haven’t been all that bad lately. Mosquitoes are somewhat annoying in the evening hours, or in the shady areas. On another note, I have pretty well got our new wrap around deck finished which we are adding to our cottage. I am now in the process of adding a new facer board on the cottage and will then get to staining things. My lovely wife picked out a nice grey stain. Should be nice when all said and done. On another note, we decided since it was a rainy day to go to North Bay and pick up our groceries yesterday, which we ordered online. The stores were packed with people going about their duties as if nothing was or is wrong. The numbers though has dropped dramatically with the vaccines that has been administered over the past couple months. While in town, my wife and I had our second shot of the Pfizer vaccine, so we are fully vaccinated now. Our arms are a wee bit sore as if someone punched us, but other than that we are both fine. No other issues to speak of. So we will now see how that works out. I hope almost everyone eventually sees that it is the thing to do. The only way this virus can carry on and get stronger is inside people without the vaccine. At any rate, what will be, will be. Today my wife and I should take a break, but we have mowing to do as the grass is getting a touch long. We will work slowly at that in a bit. My wife’s leg and back is still hurting her a lot. Hard to keep her down. With that bit of info under your hat, I am off for my breakfast and will then see what the day has in store. You just never know. GW

Morning Chat July 13/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, waking up. We probably will see some rain later on in the day. Highway 522 is very busy these days with folks coming in from all over. My wife and I are staying put, working around our home. For the past week, we have been working on a wrap around deck for our cottage. Which will make it nice for friends and guests when they come to visit. It has been a lot of work as I am using rough lumber, planing it down making my own decking and 2x6s. I figured I saved half of what it would have cost if I was to buy lumber already dressed. With the prices they are charging today for lumber. So things are working out. I hear though that the price has dropped somewhat. I hope it gets back to normal soon. There are a lot of companies taking advantage of us humans. Today I will continue on working away. My lovely wife has been laid up for a few days now with a sore back and leg. All the work we have been doing this year has taken its toll on her. So she is now sitting watching me in a lawn chair under a tree. But she is still moving around a bit making meals and a few light duties. Hard to keep her down. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. That is, if the rain holds off. I hope so, as one more good day of work should pretty well finish the deck, other than staining it. Take care and stay safe. GW
