Good Morning!

It’s another cold morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at-8.7 C | 16.34 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. Highway 522 is snow covered with a lot of icy sections throughout. So … knowing that care should be taken if out and about. For my wife and I we are staying home where it is warm and dry. I did light my old shop stove this morning, so it warms things up a bit. I have been keeping it going for the past few days now. Furthermore, I had to move things around, so I could put the ATV inside where it’s warm. Couldn’t see it sitting out in the cold, Ha ha. Yesterday I cleaned it up some, and it is looking pretty nice now. And after giving it a good look over, I found it is in excellent shape. Knowing that eases my mind a lot, as I didn’t get a real good look at it when I bought it. Today I have to take our car in for some new brakes, which I will do after breakfast. Seems there is always something that comes along to take one’s money. And truth be told, things aren’t cheap nowadays. With that I am off for some oatmeal that my lovely wife just brought me and will then get to doing a few things.

Good Afternoon!

It was a cold morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at -4.1 C | 24.62 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. We also saw a skiff of snow overnight, just enough to cover our grass. Not enough to warrant me waking up our snowblower. Although I did chip out some ice, so I can get it out of my shed if need be. I have to come up with a better door next summer. One that opens. Highway 522 is partially covered with some snow and ice.

On another note, I bit the bullet and bought a 4×4 Honda Foreman ATV a couple of days ago. Not a new one, as they are priced way too much these days. But the one I bought, being as old as it is … is in great shape. She only has around 3000 Kilometres on the old girl and had only one owner who only used it once a year, and it never sat outside. So once I check things over and polish er up a bit, I am thinking it will be about as good as a brand new one. Honda makes a good ATV. But … we will see how that works out in the coming days. Now I have to learn how to drive it. Amazingly it came with a manual so that will help out a lot. Shows me what all them buttons on the handle bar is all about. Ha ha. But that is what life is all about. LEARNING. I did manage to unload it from my trailer this morning, so it is on the ground at least. I just rolled it down some ramps I have. Took me ten minutes to find neutral. lol

Other than that, not much else happening around our area. Most of the deer hunters have left us for the year. I don’t think they did all that well this year, being so warm. But a few have gotten one, so I hear.

With that, have a great day, what’s left of it and stay safe. Lot of people pretty sick out there these days.

Good Morning!

Well it is still quite warm out there waking up, with the temperature sitting at 11.5 C | 52.7 F. Enjoy it today as tomorrow we could see an inch or so of snow. It’s amazing how nice it’s been so far, with all the warm temperatures and all. But once the cold gets settled in, it will stay with us. You know, since we moved here over 20 years ago, we have never had a Christmas without snow. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling pretty good.

My wife and I did go to town yesterday to pick up a few things, along with some groceries. It was supposed to be cloudy for the day, but instead the sun came out and stayed with us till we arrived back home. I asked it to be nice before I left, and it did. It’s kind of ironic really, as over the years what ever weather I wanted, or needed to get things done, I got it. My kids used to get so angry, as when we got up it could be raining, and they thought they would get out of doing some work that I had planned. I used to say. “Eat your breakfast, the rain will stop when we are ready to go to work.” And it always did. They say you have to work with the weather, and I suspect that to be true, but in my case the weather worked for me, at least up till now. And I don’t see why it would change.

On another note, we did have a real nice trip yesterday to North Bay and back. We got our groceries and a few other items, dropped off our son some cupcakes my wife made for his birthday, picked up some lunch and ate it in the car; taking in what most of the city slickers were doing. Kind of nice watching people. Speaking of watching people, where ever we went, no one was wearing a mask. I guess nowadays they feel macho or something, thinking they are invincible. I guess that is why the hospitals are full and a lot of people are at home in bed sick. Makes me shake my head knowing, that simply by wearing a mask, most of our colds and flu’s could be avoided. But hey! If they like to be sick, who am I to tell them what they should or should not be doing.

With that, I am off for some Flap-Jacks my lovely wife is making for me, and will then head on out to my woodworking shop to do some work. Work I enjoy, mind ya.

PS. I will post this week’s Podcast later on today … or tomorrow morning.

It’s That Time Again. And ……

Good Morning!

It’s a really nice morning here in Port Loring. The sun is shining with the temperature sitting at 13.7 C | 56.66 F. It will warm up even more as the day moves forward. Enjoy it today, as the temperature is going to drop tonight, and we could see a few flakes of the white stuff, waking up tomorrow morning. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good today. There are a few vehicles running up and down the highway this morning. The good news for the hunters is … that the cooler weather, which is going to arrive tomorrow, will get the deer moving around a bit more than they are now.

On another note, I did finish up the Cobblers Bench I have been working on for the last week, and I brought it into our home. Sure looks nice, and later on I will take a couple pictures and share them with you.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal that my ‘Lovely Wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store other than what I have planned.

Good Morning!

It’s a bit cloudy here in Port Loring this morning. We will however see some sunshine as the day moves forward. The temperature rose a bit through the night, sitting at 1.4 C | 34.52 F. It will warm up a bit more as the day moves forward. Tomorrow we will be back into summer weather, but it will be short-lived. We will have to enjoy it while it lasts. Highway 522 is still quiet, being the first week of Deer Season. For the next two weeks it will remain that way. After that, Port Loring goes into Hibernation. And no outsiders want anything to do with us till spring.

On another note, I did finish the Cobblers Bench yesterday and will bring it into the house a bit later on. I will also take another picture of it, so you can have a look at it.

My wife and I have been busy working on another project, being an old washing machine which dates back into the early 1900s. We rescued it a few years ago, figuring we could do something with it, giving it a new life. I made a nice wooden top for it and once my little woman works her magic, it will make someone a real nice one of a kind coffee table. I will take a picture of it too, when all said and done, and post it here on my Blog.

Today I am going to take it a bit easy. I have some things that need attending here on my computer.

With that, you all have a great day and stay safe. Lots of folks feeling poorly these days with the virus catching up to them. Hard thing to evade with no one taking precautions anymore. Well … a few are.

So how you all doing this morning? Good I hope. It looks like another nice day is shaping up for us here in Port Loring. The sun is shinning, without a cloud in the sky. It is a touch cool though, with the temperature waking up sitting at -1.7 C | 28.94 F. But it will be short-lived, with it warming up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is very quiet these days, as most of the men folk along, with some women folk out in the bush seeing if they can bring down a deer for the long winter ahead. Some people rely on it for a source of food. I am not going out this year, but next year I will see what develops. I am thinking about it. I used to do a lot of hunting, but stopped for a few years. But with the cost of meat these days, I am tempted. As I say, we will see what happens.

On another note, I did work in my old woodworking shop for most of the day yesterday, and today will finish up the cobblers bench I have been working on. I stained it at the end of the day yesterday, so it is nice and dry now and ready to put on a few coats of some urethane. Should be nice when all said and done.

I also started my shop stove this morning being a touch cool, So by the time I finish my breakfast that my lovely wife is making for me, it should be nice and toasty in there.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 7/2022

Starting things off, I am a bit late with my posting here today. Reason being I got up late, and then got busy on some other projects and completely forgot. Weather wise it is a touch cooler today with the temperature sitting at 7.9 C | 46.22 F. It won’t warm up any more than it is now. The good news is we are having some sunshine shinning down upon us, which sort of makes it feel somewhat warmer than it is. Highway 522 is bare and dry today, which is good for travelling. And living where we do, travelling is something we all have to do at one time or another. That is, if you’re in need of some groceries and things. Although, there are a few things that you can buy here in town that would hold you over if need be.

Yesterday I didn’t do all that much. I couldn’t work in my old woodworking shop as the power was out all night and most of the morning. But I did however do some work in our basement that needed attending. Which looked after most of the day.

Today I was on the phone most of the morning, updating a few licences and things. I think I sat waiting for over an hour before I got a human being to talk to. Even then it was a challenge. They say doing things online is easier, but I am not sure about that. I did however get things looked after. I think!

With that, I am off for a salmon sandwich that my lovely wife is preparing for me, along with a cup or two of fresh coffee.

What’s Happening In And around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 6/2022

Good morning

Well, starting things off, we here in Port Loring have no power. The power went out around 11:30 PM last night and is still out at the time of this post here on my Blog. I checked Hydro One, and they are saying that they are assessing the problem, not knowing the problem as yet. So I suspect it will be out for a while yet. But you never know. So, hearing that, I managed to drag out our Generator from my shop and got it running. So it should keep our freezers from thawing and our fridge cold. We will also be able to warm up the house as I have it hooked up, so our oil and wood furnace will run. And we have water, so we are all set. And the best part is I won’t miss our morning coffee.

Moving along highway 522 is and has been real busy with a lot of hunters moving into our area. Deer season with rifles starts tomorrow for two weeks. So our small town will be busy for a while.

Today I will be playing around here in the house, at least till the power comes back on. The good part is it isn’t that cold outside, with the temperature sitting at 18 C | 64.4 F.

With that I am off for my morning bowl of porridge that my lovely wife is making for me and will then see what develops.

And other than a few clouds, it surely is a good morning. The temperature waking up is still quite warm, sitting at 16.7 C | 62.06 F. And it will warm up even more as the day moves forward. We should also be seeing a bit of sunshine later on, too. Which will put front porch sittin’ on our list of things to do today. We try and take advantage of all the sun that is shinning down on us this time of year. Highway 522 is bare and wet this morning, caused by the heavy rain we had through the night. And I have to tell those that don’t live here, it rained. But in doing so, it lulled me to sleep last night.

On another note, I did manage to put in a full day’s work yesterday in the woodworking shop. Got lots done on the one of a kind Cobblers Bench I am working on. I should about finish it today other than the staining. I will take a picture later on today and post it here on my blog for all to have a look at. Let me know what you think.

I also went out to light the shop stove this morning but being so warm decided against it. Actually I worked with my shop door open all day yesterday which sure was nice.

With that I am off for a bowl of Porridge that my lovely wife is making for me and will then get to work.

Oh, and this week’s Podcast will be live on here at 9:30 AM this morning. I felt up to adding it this morning.

Update on the weather here this morning: Strong south to southwesterly winds, with gusts to 70 to 80 km/h.
An isolated gust to 90 km/h is possible.
Or 55 MPH!

Starting things off, we are still in the midst of having summer weather. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 11.6 C | 52.88 F, and it will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. We will also see a lot of sunshine throughout the day. By the looks of things, this nice warm weather will remain with us for another week. Can’t beat that for this time of year. After that though, things will start to change.

On another note, I didn’t do all that much yesterday, laid down most of the day trying to heal up what I hurt the day before. It is still bugging me this morning, but I am able to walk around some. So knowing that, I did light the wood stove in my shop to warm things up a bit. Once it is warm in there, I will let it go out, as I won’t be needing it with the temperatures rising. And I am not sure how much I will be able to do anyway. We will see. Life is a dilemma at times.

Other than that, not much happening in our small town. Other than the hunters roaming around in the bushes. It’s not like it used to be, that’s for sure. Years ago, everyone knew where everyone was in the bush. Today, well … you take your chances.

Good Morning!

It looks like another nice sunny day is shaping up for us in Port Loring. The sun is almost out of bed, as I am typing away here on my computer. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. There are a lot of trucks moving up and down the highway this morning. Lots of construction going on these days with new homes being built. Sign of the times, they say. Some people like it, some don’t.

On another note, I did light my woodworking shop stove yesterday, but decided to do some outside work in the bush by our home. Since it was a nice day. But in doing so, the issues I was having all summer started to come back, so I had to go lay down. It’s still bothering me this morning, so … I guess I will be laid up for a few days. I hope I didn’t mess it up like it was before, as I was just beginning to feel really good too. I have to learn, my limits and quit before things gets out of hand.

With that I am off for my breakfast and will then go and lay down for a bit.

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning starting things off, but the sun will make its way into our area in a bit. Which will make it another nice day. It was so nice and warm yesterday that my wife and I quit early and sat outside, taking in the sunshine. It sure felt good, let me tell you. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which once again will make travelling good.

On another note, I worked steadily in my old woodworking shop all day yesterday, at least till front porch sittin’ entered into my mind. Today I will do the same. Other than that, not much happening in and around our small town. Well … deer season is closing in us, and there are lots of strangers roaming around the woods these days. So knowing that, care should be taken if out and about. And never go out into the bush without wearing a fluorescent orange coat. In doing so, you won’t be mistaken for a deer. Pays to be cautious these days, as the old hunters that once were, are far and in-between. Today we have a mixed breed out there, and as much as I hate to say it, a lot shouldn’t be carrying a gun. My opinion only.
With that I am off for my morning bowl of porridge and will then see what the day has in store.

Here it is November first. Man, time sure flies by, let me tell ya. One minute we are in the midst of summer and the next we are closing in on Winter. But you wouldn’t know it weatherwise.

Starting things off, we are in the midst of some clouds here in Port Loring. We also had a light shower earlier this morning. The temperature is still warm this morning, with it sitting at 8.6 C | 47.48 F. It will warm up more as the day moves forward. And we should also see some sunshine a bit later on. Can’t beat that for this time of year. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good. For my wife and I we have all we need for a few weeks, so we will be staying put.

On another note, I worked in my woodworking shop all day yesterday on the Cobblers Bench I am making. Today will be doing the same. It’s nice to be able to do these things. To me, there is nothing nicer than to take a few pieces of old used lumber and make it into something beautiful that will last for years.

With that I am off for my breakfast that my lovely wife is preparing for me and will then get to work.

Starting things off, it is a really nice day here in Port Loring. The sun is shinning, and the temperatures are staying quite warm for this time of year, sitting at 4.8 C | 40.64 F waking up. And by the looks of things, these warm temperatures will remain with us for another week or so. It won’t be good for the deer hunt, but the deer themselves are loving it. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good for those wanting to head into North Bay or ? It is possible we could see a few showers, depends on which way the rain is heading. Nature does what she wants and won’t be dictated to by us humans. I respect her motives.

On another note, I worked all day in my old woodworking shop yesterday, getting lots done on the Cobblers Bench I am working on. I also got energetic and in the afternoon and rearranged my whole shop. And if I do say so myself, it is lookin’ good. I enjoy my shop and even more so now, with everything being easy to get at and work with. It’s not a big shop as I used to have, but I can do anything in there that someone could in a huge shop. It’s all in how you go about doing things. Working by myself over the years, I had to learn ways of doing things on my own.

With that, I am off for a bowl of porridge that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then get to work. Porridge stays with you a long time and is a very health food to eat. Other than the brown sugar, I add. But hey … I enjoy it. Haha.

It looks like another nice day is shaping up for us here in Port Loring. The sun is slowly rising without a cloud in the sky. The temperature isn’t or wasn’t all that bad neither getting out of bed, with it sitting at 2.6 C | 36.68 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. We did have another heavy frost overnight, but it is melting fast.

On another note, I did get up a touch early this morning and lit the shop stove, so it will be nice and cozy in there to do some work. Yesterday I did the same, but after a half hour of burning I let it go out, as if I didn’t, it would be too warm to do any work. Actually I had my shop door open all day which was nice. I enjoy working out there as it seems it gives me a different perspective on life, and I don’t get too wrapped up with myself. In other words, it takes my mind off of things, that are really not all that important. Today I will continue on with the old Cobblers Bench I am working on, I did get the top cut out yesterday along with the legs. Today I will finish turning the legs on my lathe, and if time will start assembling a few things.

With that I am off for my morning bowl of porridge that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then get to work. Enjoy your day, and if possible take advantage of this nice weather. I know we will be.

Good Morning!

Had a game of checkers with my old friend yesterday. You have to watch him all the time, as he has a tendency of cheating a bit when you’re not looking.

So how you all doing this morning? Good I hope. It is that time of year, when the older you get, the more the old bones hurt. Least it seems that way for me. Especially the damp, cold weather. Years ago a lot of Canadians headed off to Arizona for winter, where it is dry and warm as the dry weather made life more bearable. Myself, I have never been there, as most of the time years ago we headed on down to Florida. It’s a lot warmer down there. We also had a cottage there in Sarasota. It is getting built up now, which makes it hard to get around. But back in the 60s it was the place to be. I had a lot of good times while there. Amazing really that we were able to get there every winter. It wasn’t that we had a lot of extra cash, neither. Today when we could go we don’t, well … not all that much. It makes me kind of wonder about that. Highway 522 is bare, dry and quiet this morning. There are a few hunters moving around taking in the sights, The temperature waking up wasn’t as cool as yesterday, with it sitting at 3.3 C | 37.94 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward, and we should be seeing lots of sunshine, which will be nice, as I love sunshine.

On another note, I did light up my old shop stove yesterday, got it nice and warm in there, and never did anything. It was one of those days. It seems it takes me a day to recover from our trip to North Bay, whenever we go for groceries. Maybe it’s the shock from what it cost us for things, Ha ha. This morning I lit it again and after breakfast I will get to work on a project I am wanting to make for my lovely wife. It’s an old Cobblers Bench. They are a lot of work making, as I have made a few over the years for customers, but this one is for us. Which we will put in front of our couch here in the living room. It’s going to be like a Jersey Cow. As Jerseys have all the extras. Another old saying we had on the farm years ago. Ha ha.

With that I am off for a bowl of Porridge and a muffin and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Seems no matter what I start off with, things somehow change a wee bit. Have a great day and stay safe.

What’s Happening in and around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Oct 28/2022

Good Morning!

It’s a cold morning here in Port Loring. A frost through the night took a grip on the land, and looking out my living room window, the ground is white. Kind of pretty in its own way. The temperature waking up was sitting at 0.3 C | 32.54 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. Well … a wee bit. The good news is … we will see lots of sunshine for the next few days. So, I guess I can’t complain, But then again, it wouldn’t do any good to complain anyway. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling today quite nice.

On another note, my wife and I took a trip to town (North Bay) yesterday. We were in need of a few things for winter. This is the time to pick these things up, as there are some good deals waiting to be had in certain stores. I did pick up a real nice pair of winter lined leather mittens for $10.00 at Giant Tiger, over by Sobeys. In this country, you might as well throw finger gloves in the garbage. Gas prices were sitting at $1.77 a Litre, not as bad as it was earlier in the year. Still too damn much, though. The groceries we bought yesterday, were also a touch expensive, but we did pick up a few things that were being sold at a good price. Kind of surprised us. While there, we bought some lunch and ate it in the car, taking in the sights. We enjoy doing that. We had so many places to go we didn’t get home till after dark, and by the time we got to bed it was around midnight. Any longer and we might have turned into a pumpkin. That is an old quote we used years ago. Ha ha.

Funny how things goes. While shopping and going to places yesterday, my intuition was telling me that we had to be careful going home, it kept nagging at me saying we had to keep an eye open for deer and thing. I had a not so good feeling. So paying attention to them feelings, about halfway home I looked over at my wife and said. “You know, I think I will slow it down to around 70 just in case.” She said she thought it was a good idea too. Two minutes later, out of nowhere, there stood a huge moose right in front of us. By not going too fast, we were able to come to a stop. Watching it slowly move off into the bush. If I had been going the speed limit, and not following my intuition, we would have definitely hit it. And you know … you sure don’t need to be hitting one of them. A deer is bad enough, I know, as I hit one that ran out in front of me coming home from Florida one winter. It made a heck of a mess of my car, let me tell you. At that time in my life, I was young, and I didn’t take heed of my instincts. After that I did, and over the years it has sure paid off. With a lot of things, actually. Like last night. You know, I think we all have that gift, but most folks today doesn’t recognize it, being that a lot have been protected too much throughout their lives.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast and will then see what the day has in store. Enjoy your day and stay safe. We noticed a lot of young folks coughing and sneezing in the stores yesterday. We were happy we both were wearing our masks and using a lot of hand sanitizer.

Good Morning!

It’s a cool morning waking up here in Port Loring. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -1.8 C | 28.76 F. It will warm up some as the day moves forward, but them warm temperatures we were having are gone. At least for a while, as where we live you never know. One day it could be warm, the next day we could be up to our ears in snow with icicles hanging from our nose. I am hoping it will be a warmer winter than last year. Reason being we wouldn’t be burning as much oil or wood. And with the price of oil, gas and wood these days, it makes it hard on us older folks and others, that doesn’t have much $$$ to spare. The good news is we are having some sunshine this morning, which will make it, at least, look nice outside. Highway 522 is bare, dry and quiet this morning, but it is early. I should also mention that we had a heavy frost overnight, as looking out, the roof on my woodworking shop is pure white.

On another note, I didn’t do all that much outside yesterday with it raining for most of the day. I did clean up my shop a bit and got some wood out of storage to start another project. After that I finished up another Podcast for Friday morning, and by the time I had that all finished up, it was time to have supper and put my feet up. All in all, a pretty productive day.

With that, I am off for a bowl of hot porridge that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe, as there is a lot of sickness around these days. The hospitals are filling up in the Southern part of Ontario. This virus isn’t done with us yet. You put it, the Flu and colds together, it makes it kind of rough on folks. And a lot could be avoided if

It’s a cloudy morning here, waking up in Port Loring. We won’t be seeing too much sunshine today. We might however see some rain, which will cool things down some. Tomorrow we should see a return of the sun if things go to plan. Highway 522 is bare and dry, so far, this morning. There are still lots of hunters moving into our area for the deer hunt that starts next week, It will get even busier nearing the weekend.

On another note, my wife and I worked outside on a few projects yesterday, getting a lot done. We like to take advantage of the nice days when ever we can. Today, being that it is going to rain, I will clean up my shop getting it ready for another project. My part in making the … new one of a kind end table is finished, now my wife is going to work her magic painting a scenic picture on the top. She is an amazing artist, and people have bought her paintings from all over the world. Once I clean up my messy shop, I will finish up another Podcast that I have been working on, which I will post live Friday morning.

With that I am off for some homemade pancakes my lovely wife is preparing for me, and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Stay safe.

What’s Happening in and around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Oct 25/2022

Well it is a nice day for sure waking up here in Port Loring. Not as nice as yesterday, as we are in the midst of some clouds. The temperatures also have cooled down a touch, but it is still nice sitting at 14.4 C | 57.92 F. It will warm up somewhat as the day moves forward. After today though things begin to change with rain moving into our area tomorrow which will cool things down for Thursday. But in saying that, the sun will return on Thursday. After that it is touch and go. But it is that time of year when we can expect anything. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. There were a few people moving around yesterday, mostly hunters, as I have been seeing a lot of orange in the vehicles going by our home. Oh, they did shingle the roof on the LCBO yesterday, Just in case you’re interested. Ha ha

On another note, we and I did get a lot done outside yesterday. My wife got a lot of things painted and stained outside that she will be painting scenes and things on for customers. It’s nice to get them done up outside, as it keeps the fumes out of our home. Myself I cleaned up my shop a bit, did some welding on a project I am working on, had lunch and then got busy vacuuming and washing our car. I also managed to get a coat of wax on it. After that, I lubricated things up and called it a day. We even had enough time left in the day to enjoy a coffee on our front porch, soaking in some of that free Vitamin D. We like to try and get all we can of that going into winter.

With that I am off for my breakfast a bowl of porridge and will then see what the day has in store. Stay safe, a lot of people sick these days in our area.
