Morning Chat July 19/2021

Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy, hazy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 18.4 C | 65.12 F. The hazy part is due to Smoke from the active fires in northwestern Ontario and eastern Manitoba, which will stay with us here in Northern Ontario for another day or so. Once the wind shifts, things will get better, with some cooler temperatures also entering into the picture. Which is okay with me, as I sure don’t like this hot, humid weather we have been having. But it is better than pushing snow and wearing heavy winter clothing. That will come soon enough. LOL, But in spite of the hot weather, my lovely wife and I have done a lot of work this year so far around our property. I finally finished the wrap around deck along with adding a new eve trough and down pipes onto our cottage. Now we are going to paint the outside, which will finish it up quite nicely. On another note, campers, trucks, vans and cars of all kinds are roaming around our area these days. It’s back to normal for most folks, other than wearing a mask. And I hope they continue to wear the masks for a while yet. With that I am off for my morning breakfast which consists of homemade pancakes this morning for a change. Then we will see what the day has in store. Life is a mystery to say the least. Take care and stay safe.

Morning Chat, July 16/2021

Good Morning! Well, we are finally having some sunshine here this morning in Port Loring, Ontario. Over the past few days, we have had our share of rain. But it was needed, for sure. Highway 522 is very busy these days with campers moving in and around our area from all over. Is it a good thing? Time will tell. Let’s hope so. One good thing is that them pesky blood sucking parasites haven’t been all that bad lately. Mosquitoes are somewhat annoying in the evening hours, or in the shady areas. On another note, I have pretty well got our new wrap around deck finished which we are adding to our cottage. I am now in the process of adding a new facer board on the cottage and will then get to staining things. My lovely wife picked out a nice grey stain. Should be nice when all said and done. On another note, we decided since it was a rainy day to go to North Bay and pick up our groceries yesterday, which we ordered online. The stores were packed with people going about their duties as if nothing was or is wrong. The numbers though has dropped dramatically with the vaccines that has been administered over the past couple months. While in town, my wife and I had our second shot of the Pfizer vaccine, so we are fully vaccinated now. Our arms are a wee bit sore as if someone punched us, but other than that we are both fine. No other issues to speak of. So we will now see how that works out. I hope almost everyone eventually sees that it is the thing to do. The only way this virus can carry on and get stronger is inside people without the vaccine. At any rate, what will be, will be. Today my wife and I should take a break, but we have mowing to do as the grass is getting a touch long. We will work slowly at that in a bit. My wife’s leg and back is still hurting her a lot. Hard to keep her down. With that bit of info under your hat, I am off for my breakfast and will then see what the day has in store. You just never know. GW

Morning Chat July 13/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, waking up. We probably will see some rain later on in the day. Highway 522 is very busy these days with folks coming in from all over. My wife and I are staying put, working around our home. For the past week, we have been working on a wrap around deck for our cottage. Which will make it nice for friends and guests when they come to visit. It has been a lot of work as I am using rough lumber, planing it down making my own decking and 2x6s. I figured I saved half of what it would have cost if I was to buy lumber already dressed. With the prices they are charging today for lumber. So things are working out. I hear though that the price has dropped somewhat. I hope it gets back to normal soon. There are a lot of companies taking advantage of us humans. Today I will continue on working away. My lovely wife has been laid up for a few days now with a sore back and leg. All the work we have been doing this year has taken its toll on her. So she is now sitting watching me in a lawn chair under a tree. But she is still moving around a bit making meals and a few light duties. Hard to keep her down. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. That is, if the rain holds off. I hope so, as one more good day of work should pretty well finish the deck, other than staining it. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! So how you all doing? Good I hope. You know, I have found that no matter how a person’s day is, there is always something good in it. Be it rain, pain, anguish, sadness or … what ever. The trick is to find the good parts. For me, just getting out of bed is a great start in my search. LOL And at night I like to look back over my day and see if I missed anything. Usually I find I have done quite well. Anyway … I got carried away there this morning. LOL. Highway 522 is quiet today, but it will pick up as soon as our sun is back out showing off. But I don’t think we will see too much of it today. Tomorrow, though, things start to change for the better, weather wise. The temperature waking up was actually a touch cool, sitting at 10.8 C | 51.44 F. It will warm up a wee bit later on, but not much. We also had some rain through the night, and it will continue on and off for most of the day. Yesterday started off with rain, much like today. I was just about to give up working outside, when I said … “You could stop raining now, as I would sure like to get some work done on the deck I am building around our small cottage.” You know … it did, and my lovely wife and I got a lot done. We even had a few glimpses of the sun. You know, over the years, even when we lived on the farm. No matter what I had planned outside, when I asked the weather, to cooperate, it did. It’s been that way all my life. Coincidence? Hard to believe that. Maybe it’s because the weather and I work together and understand each other. What ever the reason, things have always worked out. Today though we have mowing to do, but it is raining quite hard, so, I don’t think we will get to doing that. But you never know. I haven’t put in my request yet this morning. LOL LOL With that. You all take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy, wet morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The rain will remain with us for most of the day, tonight and into tomorrow. So I guess my deck building will be put on hold for a day or so. We did however get a lot done yesterday, which is nice. Now though, since we have gone this far, my lovely wife says we should continue on with a wrap around deck instead of just one on the front of the cottage. LOL So giving it some thought, I decided she was right, and we might as well get it all done this year and out of the way. It will be an extra expense, but it will make it real nice for family and friends when they come to stay or visit. Highway 522 is still very busy these days with folks moving around our small community. The rain will slow them down a bit today. Since it is raining, I will do some inside work, after I have some bacon and eggs that my lovely wife is making me. With that, take care and stay safe and have a great day. GW
