Whats Going On In The Garden

Well vegetable garden is planted, one flat of tomatoes, Better Boy this year. Hope I am not disappointed as I usually put in Early Girl or Glamour.  So time will tell I suppose.  I also put in some bush peas, potaoes, cucumbers for pickling, broccoli, Brussel Sproutes, radishes, corn, cabbage, regular and red.  Total cabbage plants around ten or so, enough for us.  I also got herbs of all kinds a growing and if them pesky black flies let up some I might just get my corn seed in the ground.  Man they are bad out there this morning.  I was telling folks that they weren’t bad this year but, wrong………………………………  LOL Oh well such is that and they are the joys of living in the north.   One thing is they usually disappear as fast as they come.  From Mothers Day To Fathers Day is their days I always say.  Also very dry this year and it is a constant on going thing to keep the plants watered.  As it is the shock from transplanting is taking a toll on them.  Usually they are ok but this year it got so hot so quick, well it is hard on all the tender plants.  Should toughen up in the coming days, or I hope they do.  Oh and also put in some zucchini, around five or so plants.

How to Know If Frost Is In The Forecast

Hi folks, for years on the farm we worked with Mother Nature.  I say worked with her, as there is just no other Way.  She gives you clues and if your up on some of her ways, well your ahead of the game.  So……………..for those that aren’t sure whether to cover your tomato plants at nights in case of frost, let me show you an easy way to find what the night time temperatures will be.   First  off you need to know what the Dew Point Temperatures, between Noon and One, Once you know that, you will know what the lowest it will be for the following night. Simple huh? Has worked for me for many years.  Don’t be in to much of a rush in getting them seeds into the ground either.  Better to wait till night time temperatures stay above fifty.

Have We Unleashed One Of Many Sleeping Giants In The Gulf Of Mexico??

For most parts we don’t really know what is going on in the Gulf of Mexico with the oil spill.  Some say a certain amount of oil is being poured into it, some say more.  Myself I believe the situation is actually much worse than what the Powers That Be want you to believe.
I would think millions of gallons of oil is covering the Gulf right now.  Thing is folks, if this oil makes it way into the Gulf Stream currents, well lets just say it wouldn’t be good. Even as it is right now the impact from the oil will take hundreds of years to clean up.  I don’t think they can clean it up to what it once was.
The one thing we have to realise, is that we can’t live without the oceans, and what are we doing.  With man’s greed we might have just set loose a giant monster from the depths of the earth that could destroy us all.  I still believe we have the technology to stop this, question is do we have enough time. In closing I would like to say this; One just can’t keep taking from Mother Nature, destroying her home with out her not retaliating in some way.  This is only one incident, there are many, many more, just waiting, waiting to come forth to destroy its enemy, MAN.   My Opinion Only.

Copy Machines, a Security Risk?

My Sister sent me this clip of what is happening out there to folks that own copiers.  Kind of makes one think that’s for sure and worthy of being here on the Blog.  Thanks Sis.   Take a look. Click Link Below.

Everyone needs to watch this video.
And before you think “yeah, well, I never use a copier, not even at the office supply/shipping store”, think of all those who have your papers that do.  Accountants, attorneys, health professionals, banks…the list goes on.

Watch it to the end for the scariest bit.  Identity theft, anyone?

Alzheimer’s & Prevention

Alzheimer’s is slowly progressing every day among our old.  For most parts they say there is nothing anyone can do.  The Powers That Be, that is.  Well for me I believe there is a cure out there for it, just that folks today aren’t doing things that need doing.  Below are three things that if done would pretty well eliminate this terrible thing called, Alzheimer’s.  The last one, number three should be looked at real close.  If you don’t use your brain it is going to just shut down.  Things one should and could be doing is, Puzzles, Writing Poems, Problem Solving, anything that makes the old mind work.  Not easy things either, as that is what the problem is today.  Folks don’t use their minds for anything, they rely on others to do it for them.  Not a good thing folks, so get that mind and body to working.  My Opinion Only

#1) Avoid processed foods
This may seem obvious, but besides nitrates, many processed foods are loaded with neurotoxins like MSG and aspartame that may be linked to Alzheimer’s. Processed foods also contain toxins like trans-fats and refined sugar that compromise your health. Stick with whole, organic foods and your #1) Avoid processed foods

#2) Install a home water filter
Most municipal tap water systems are treated with chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals that harm your health. These chemicals are easily absorbed by your skin when you take a shower or drink unfiltered tap water. (Does anybody really do that anymore?) A whole-house activated carbon filtration system will remove most or all of these toxins from tap water. risk will be significantly reduced.

#3) Exercise regularly
By exercise, I’m talking about both physical and mental exercise. Physical exercise directly contributes to increased brain function because it reinforces neural connections in your brain, which in turn improves memory and learning capability. Mental exercises such as working on crossword puzzles will also help to keep your cognitive function in top shape. (Use it or lose it, folks!)

Snowfall Warning : North Bay – West Nipissing, Port Loring

Hmmmm…..Just when you thought it was gone for good, winter is making a comeback in Ontario.

Warnings

North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
3:39 PM EDT Friday 07 May 2010
Snowfall warning for
North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa issued

Very late season heavy snow overnight and Saturday.

An intensifying low pressure system tracking up from Illinois across Lake Huron into Eastern Ontario will bring a late season heavy snowfall to Northeastern Ontario.

Rain ahead of this system will move in this evening then change over to snow by morning as brisk northeasterly winds draw in cold Arctic air.

Latest indications suggest that 15 cm of snow will fall in a 6 to 12 hour period across North Bay and Sudbury and possibly as far north as Earlton by Saturday afternoon.

The snow will taper off to scattered wet flurries in the wake of the storm centre later on Saturday.

Motorists should be prepared for dangerous winter driving conditions from very low visibility in heavy snow and possible snow accumulation on the roads.

Darn and I just put my snowblower away, well…………I refuse to bring it back out, just going to have to melt on its own.

Help For Kidney Stones.

For those of you that have had a kidney stone, well………..you know what pain is.  Thankfully, there are natural ways to greatly reduce your risk of having this most common disorder of the urinary tract, by simply drinking lemonade.

Skip home-made or store bought lemonade if it’s loaded with sugar. Instead, sweeten lemonade to taste with healthier choices — honey or natural sugar.  Honey is what we use.  So there you go, can’t hurt to mix up a cool drink or two once or twice a week, sit back under your most favourite shade tree and enjoy.  Not only tastes good, but might save a whole lot of grief down the road a ways.  Remember, the store  stuff mixed, is no good, best would be real lemons, an squeeze your own.

Genetically Modified Organisms Not A Good Thing, Let Me Tell Ya

One thing that really bothers me and should bother you is what they are doing to our seeds and plants today.  This altering the seeds to what ever  one wants seems like a good thing on the surface but in reality it is a way for the Pharmaceutical companies to do what ever they want with our health.   Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what their up to.   My Opinion Only

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are the result of laboratory processes which artificially insert foreign genes into the DNA of food crops or animals. Those genes may come from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans. Although banned by food manufacturers in Europe and elsewhere, the FDA does not require any safety evaluations. Most  Americans say they would not eat GMOs if labelled, but the U.S. does not require labelling. GMOs are not safe, but have been in the food supply since 1996 and are now present in the vast majority of processed foods in the US and Canada. My advice is not to eat any of it and refrain from buying GMO seeds or plants from your garden centre.

Tips For Drinking Water

For Folks that live in the city and don’t have goood well water here is what I suggest they should be doing for their drinking water as drinking plenty of good, clean water is important for a healthy body.
Bottled Water: Drink filtered tap water instead.

You can read the bottle label, but you still won’t know if the water is pure and natural, or just
processed, polluted, packaged tap water. EWG found 38 contaminants in 10 popular brands.

Tap Water: Learn what’s in it.
Tap water suppliers publish all their water quality tests. Bottled water companies don’t. Read
your annual tap water quality report.  Get it tested.)

Filtered Tap Water: Drink it, cook with it.
• Choose a filter certified to remove contaminants found in your water:
Effectiveness varies – read the fine print.
• Carbon filters (pitcher or tap-mounted) are affordable and reduce many common water contaminants, like lead
and byproducts of the disinfection process used to treat municipal tap water.
• Install a reverse osmosis filter if you can afford it, to remove contaminants that carbon filters can’t eliminate, like
arsenic and perchlorate (rocket fuel).
Filters: Change them.
Change your water filters on time. Old filters aren’t safe – they harbor bacteria and let contaminants through.

On the Go: Carry water in safe containers.
Hard plastic bottles (#7 plastic) can leach a harmful plastics chemical called bisphenol A (BPA) into water. Carry stain-
less steel or other BPA-free bottles. Don’t reuse bottled water bottles. The plastic can harbor bacteria
and break down to release plastics chemicals.
While Pregnant: Stay hydrated with safe water.
It’s especially important for women to drink plenty of water during pregnancy. Follow all the tips
above.
Infants: Use safe water for formula.
Use filtered tap water for your baby’s formula. If your water is not fluoridated, you can use a
carbon filter. If it is, use a reverse osmosis filter to remove the fluoride, because fluoridated water
can damage an infant’s developing teeth. If you choose bottled water for your infant, make sure it’s
fluoride-free.

Breathe Easy: Use a whole house water filter.
For extra protection, a whole house carbon filter will remove contaminants from steamy vapors you
and your family inhale while showering and washing dishes.

Now if none of these strike your fancy, find a nice home in the country with a good drilled well and move there.  Simple as that.  It’s all boils down too you and how important you think your health is worth.

But isn’t it a shame, that what once was a world of fresh clean water provided by good old Mother Nature, now for most parts is unsafe to drink, thanks to humans messing things up.

ASPARTAME & Its Ill Effects

For many it seems that what ever our Powers That Be tells them they think it is gospel.  Well don’t be fooled.

‘If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from these symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs, Cramps, Vertigo, Dizziness, Headaches, Tinnitus, Joint pain, Unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!’  Hard to believe I am sure, but this in my eyes is one of the worst things you could be using. To prove what I have just said one has to just take a spoon full of ASPARTAME, pour it over an ant hill and see what happens.  First off the ants love it as it is sweet like humans.  They then take it back to their nests and in short week the whole nest dies.    Now if that doesn’t tell you something and you keep on eating it, well…………………I gotta’ say there is something wrong with you.
