George Walters is a Canadian columnist and author with more than forty years of writing experience. For over twenty years he has written a weekly column for Postmedia Network — Canada's largest newspaper chain — never missing a single week, publishing fifty-two stories a year. Combined with his work in Reader's Digest Community Voices, World News, Country Living, The Country Register, and farm and rural lifestyle magazines across Canada, he has published well over two thousand stories drawn from everyday life. He writes about farm work, fishing, old trucks, and the kind of people you only find in small towns — but just as likely he'll hand a voice to a weathered telephone pole, or turn his eye on something happening in the world today and tell you exactly what he thinks about it. No subject is off limits. If there's a story in it, George will find it. He has been called a philosopher of everyday life, a description that came up more than once during his television appearances over the years — and it's not hard to see why. His writing has a way of making the ordinary feel worth sitting with. He is the author of eleven books, including yearly short story collections and the Clay Moretti Files mystery series. Clay is a fifty-year-old private investigator who drives a 1967 Ford Galaxie, smokes cigars, and operates by a code the modern world gave up on a long time ago. The cases are present day. The man handling them is not. All titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon. Together, George and his wife Ruth have also created Elmer Finds His Way, the first in what he hopes will be a long series of children's books. Ruth did all the illustrations, as she has for every one of George's books — and beyond that she designed and painted the covers as well. Her work is woven into every page of everything he has published. A few words from readers: "I pulled up a kitchen chair and read your story three times." "You have a way of making a person homesick for a place they haven't been to." "Thank you for writing things that make old people and kids feel the same way at the same time." All my titles are available in paperback and eBook on Amazon.ca here.

Humor For Friday, November 25 2011

If you have ever had to deal with  government inspectors you will enjoy this.

The Montana Department of Employment, Division of Labour Standards claimed a small rancher was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to investigate him.

GOVT AGENT: I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them.

RANCHER: Well, there’s my hired hand who’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board. Then there’s the mentally challenged guy. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here.  He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night so he can cope with life. He also sleeps with my wife occasionally.

GOVT AGENT: That’s the guy I want to talk to – the mentally challenged one.

RANCHER: That would be me.

What Everyone Should Know About Salt

You know most folks today figure that salt is one of the leading items eaten, that leads to heart disease.    I for one believe that to be untrue.   First off years ago anyone that worked for long hard hours was given salt tablets throughout their day.  Why? Well it is quite simple. Our bodies needs it to survive. It cleans the pores of toxins and if you taste your sweat it is pure salt water, if you taste your tears it is pure salt water.   With out salt we would all perish in a short order. So what has the medical profession been telling us?  Again simple, cut back on your salt intake.  And again in my eyes they are wrong and in doing so more folks are getting sick every day.  Cut back on your salt too much and you get sick, then you go on prescription drugs, then you have more problems, caused by the drugs.  Eventually you are on about ten different pills all causing you more problems.  You should be able to see a pattern here my friends.  It’s like looking at a blank wall, but then again there is plenty out there today that have a one track mind.  Now in saying this one also must realize that all salts are not equal. Not by a long shot.  First off all white table salt has been bleached to make it look nice.  Most of all the good things that were in it is now all gone.   So some say well I will switch to sea salt.   Wrong again.  All salt comes from the sea or was covered by water at one time.  What one really needs to be eating is organic salt, unprocessed and unrefined salt.  When you buy it it will be damp with a dull color to it and one has to dry it and crush it a touch to be able to use it.  Using this salt one can pretty well use all they want without complications  or worry of heart disease along with many other problems. Good salt helps ones body adjust to the chemicals and things that we are ingesting into our bodies these days and keeps us healthy and strong.  The kind I buy is Celtic Sea Salt® Brand.  Now get out there, buy the good stuff and get healthy.

unprocessed and unrefined

Weather & Hunting Times For Port Loring Ontario

Good morning.  Nice morning wouldn’t ya say?  Touch cool but sure feels good to get outside first thing and grab a few breaths of fresh northern air. Nothing is more healthier for you. let me tell ya.  Today temperature is going to reach 36 °f and then later on tonight drop to 27 °f.  These cool nights sure make it nice for sleeping. The barometer this morning has been falling but now is rising slightly.  At the moment it is setting at 29:12 in Hg.  The winds are from the North East and calm.  Hardly move a whisker out there this morning.  The moon will Rise: 5:30 AM and Set: 3:22 PM today. It will be Overhead: 10:30 AM & Underfoot: 11:00 PM.

Moon Phase is Solunar Table Moon Phase is 4% percent waning crescent 4% Waning Crescent.

The sun got out of bed at 7:30 AM and will set at 4:40 PM, giving us 9 hrs. and 10 minutes of daylight.  Plenty of time to draw in some of that sunshine that is showing itself this morning.

For the hunters out there with bows the old weather stick says the best times  will be from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM and then again from 3:22 PM – 4:22 PM,  Would also like to mention here that my forecast for ice fishing will start right here, as soon as the lakes freeze over.

The Doctor Of The Future

A famous feller said this once a long time ago and today folks are just starting, I  will say that again, just starting to realize he is right.  I knew it all along and same as him no one was listening to me.  Take A Look

The doctor of the future
will no longer treat the
human frame with drugs,
but rather will cure
and prevent disease
with nutrition.”

Thomas Edison

You can put that in the bank my friends.
